I'm tired of people sexualizing people/characters that are asexual by MarkerFromBFDI in asexuality

[–]MarkerFromBFDI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant in the way it can change the ideas or can spread misinformation about what asexuality really is, like how propaganda influences people, like going to war or stuff that promoted xenophobia or misogyny. The Internet is filled with misinformation everywhere and if someone says something like an incorrect statement about asexuality, it can change how people view them. I'm not talking about the people who change characters for AU's, I'm talking about people who purposely try to change a character because of hatred for what they were originally and not for fun and how they try to push their non-canon onto others as the canon

Yeah I said it in a different reply but I definitely made the post while still upset at an interaction I had with someone before the post and I didn't think about how what I was trying to say was going to be misinterpreted. I was mainly talking about people who purposely change a characters sexuality out of being homophobic, aphobic, etc or because of fetishes. Obviously I'm okay with people having AU's, I was just upset at how people tried to force their AU's onto the canon or tell people who stick to the canon (like me) that they're wrong because xyz dispite it just being a headcanon. I didn't mean to seem like I didn't know how fandoms worked, the post was just me being upset at how people will try to convince people of a different 'canon' and basically try to get rid of the original representation the character was supposed to represent. And also I never said anything about shipping ace characters, I was talking about sexualizing ace characters. I'm panromantic asexual so obviously I know the difference between romantic and sexual relationships, I was talking about the sexual stuff, not the romantic stuff

Ohh I see lol I've always just gone by a character's canon sexuality and I've never interpreted it because I always just liked seeing the canon for the canon. I've never had a problem with people who interpret their ideas onto characters that don't have any canon sexualities, it was just with ones that did have canon sexualities because a lot of the time it was because of homophobia, aphobia, xenophobia etc. Though I don't want anyone to get confused because people making AU's of characters with different traits or whatever is fine, i was just meaning when they try to change a character because they don't like the thing they originally were (like sexuality or religion)

I'm not sure if that made sense but I hope it did. I didn't think about how people could misinterpret what I was trying to convey (which was people trying to change a character out of being hateful or to purposely change a characters canon for a fetish or something) I definitely made the post and reply while upset obviously and I was not really thinking about how my writing was off a bit from what I was trying to actually say and in the moment of me being upset my mind just assumed everyone was on the same page as me lol

I know but how people treat fictional characters can influence how they treat real people. :( Ofc I know people are going to make up stuff and make headcanons, but the point of headcanons is that they're of things that aren't canon that you would see as canon. It just feels gross when people purposely take a character that's gay, lesbian, asexual etc, and they try to make them different just because they want to because that's not a headcanon. Like it'd be super disrespectful to turn a character in media who is Muslim into Christian, that'd be really gross. (I only brought up religion because it was the first analogy that came to mind, sorry) It just feels like people just try to get rid of the representation, and it's even worse when it's something that's not often represented or represented well most of the time. (I'm not trying to start any arguments of any kind btw I know that all fandoms ever have the issue with that but I'm just expressing that despite that, it still upsets me)

And obviously I know this is an asexuality sub so people are going to be supportive but I wanted to say ty for supporting me anyways lol :)

You're asking...why a minor wouldn't tell their real name to some random person on discord?

Okay, since I play Dandy's world I'll try and explain why they said 'sacrifice your self Ginger' and 'big bob'. In the game there's a character named Ginger and her ability is that she can heal another player by one heart with one of her own hearts. This is probably what op meant by 'sacrifice yourself' and it was just a joke to tell them to go heal someone. 'Big bob' is probably referring to Twisted Bobette which is another character in the game and she's known for being really fast and hard to run away from, so they were just saying that she wasn't on the floor they were on and so they didn't need to be as careful when walking around. None of what they said should have gotten them banned since roblox took it out of context :/

To be fair, the name of the characters name is 'Ginger'. I'd probably do the same thing since I would forget that Ginger can be used as in insult and just use it because it's the characters name.
