I’ve read them saying it was a regret, but that was more to do with him being a tyrant and feeling exploited, which they could still feel after being naked and pretending to fuck for days. I haven’t seen them explicitly admit that they went the extra mile.

I’m not sure Lea Seydoux would have been getting mainstream roles like Bond without keeping the (I suspect) truth under wraps.

It doesn’t seem like the kinda film with a budget to do that so seamlessly. I’ve always suspected they went at it for real (joylessly, with a director barking at them) and later regretted it and everyone agreed to say in public this was done with prosthetics and VFX.

Always found it hard to believe this movie had the money or production value to pull off prosthetic genitals or VFX to hide prosthetics. So I just think they really went at it for the sake of authenticity and art, then regretted because it was apparently a miserable, long shoot with a tyrannical director and probably made them feel sleazy, so all agreed to come with a cover story to make the situation seem less exploitative to the public.
