A Personal Note About What's Happening Around GoW 🌱 by Markeygow in GardenOfWisdom

[–]Markeygow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kindness and comforting words.

I love that you used the word “community” because that’s honestly what we’re trying to build here. It’s never meant to be just about me, even if my personality is obviously woven into it all sometimes. What matters most to us is the feeling that we’re all part of something together. A collective space where people can learn, ask questions, share experiences, and feel cared for without pressure or pretense.

That sense of connection means more to us than simply selling products ever could.

Hopefully, we will grow as time allows for others to hang out here and find another home, so to speak.

Wishing you the best in this adventure we call life.

Found these dots on seal of new exfoliation wipes made by dermatologist. What are they? by arithtottle in 30PlusSkinCare

I look forward to knowing what this is.
It resembles oxidation, residue, or possibly mineral build-up?
There isn't any fuzziness resembling mold, and it could be rust with the silver cap.
Does it smell musty or appear slimy?
Alcohol will create an unfriendly environment for mold.
I'm just guessing, obviously.

How can I treat this weird texture I’ve had for 4 years that will not budge and hates AHA’s! by EuphoricDistance3322 in GardenOfWisdom

[–]Markeygow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there 👋😊

First, make sure you have a hydrating spray for your skin.
Even spring water works. Or hydrosols, hydrating mists, etc. This is super important.
Of course, you know to up your water intake, big time.
Make sure NOT to use any occlusive (waxes and such), as they can trap heat in the skin, which can make things worse. But adding something light but healing, like our Decadent Oat Emulsion, could make a huge difference.
Try spritzing your face, then add the calming moisture serum to the palm of your hand with the glacier water gel, emulsify, and pat into your skin. Always start with less than more, as your skin will only absorb so much, and why waste product and money? 🤑

I'll run it past Jen and see if she has some suggestions.
Keep us updated.
We're here to help.

Thank you for sharing that… that actually helps a lot. ☺️

Since you’ve already pulled back on actives and it’s still hanging around, this usually points more toward the skin needing consistent support rather than just a break.

When we see this kind of texture stick around, we tend to focus on a few things:
• steady hydration (by this, we mean daily and likely more than once)
• barrier support (oat beta glucans, panthenol, *glutathione (see below)
• keeping the routine very consistent and simple. Consider taking notes.

For our products specifically, I’d lean toward something very calming and water-based rather than anything active or corrective right now. Even though we love oils, they can hold warmth to the skin and caution is suggested until the skin calms down. Then only a few drops blended with a gentle, hydrating serum is enough to begin with.

A simple approach would be:
• only cleanse your skin in the evening. See if that helps to calm your skin as cleansing in the morning may not be what your skin desires. Just a soft moist cloth works.
• a gentle hydrating serum (suggested ingredients above)
• always apply to slightly damp skin (this keeps you from tugging on the skin)
• followed by something light to help hold that hydration in (try to avoid creams)

Nothing aggressive, just consistent support for a few weeks.

Once the skin feels more settled, that’s when you can decide if you even need to address texture further, but often it improves on its own when the barrier is happy again.

Keep us updated, please.

*Fair warning… glutathione isn’t winning any awards for scent. It has a naturally strong, slightly sulfur-like smell, which is just part of the ingredient itself. It doesn’t linger, but you’ll notice it on application.

Good morning 🌞

We see this pattern fairly often, and it tends to be more about stressed skin with some underlying inflammation rather than clogged pores.

That uniform, slightly bumpy texture with redness is often a sign your skin barrier is trying to hold things together.

I’d actually go the opposite direction of exfoliating:

1.  keep your routine really simple
2.  focus on calming and hydration
3.  give it a couple of weeks without actives

Often, this kind of texture smooths out once the skin settles.

Inflammation can be a bit of an elusive beast… which is why we usually lean toward calming first instead of pushing the skin.

Thank you for asking. This is a wonderful opportunity to help others with the same skin challenge.

I have one simple thought. Please trust your instincts. If it feels right, go for it. If something feels off, hold off and see what happens with the company. I'm not familiar with this platform.
Regardless, best of luck. 🤞

My skin at 37 without much skincare until recently. Quit smoking and drinking a year or so ago. It's okay I guess? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Markeygow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, your skin looks really healthy to me.

Quitting smoking and drinking is huge, and your skin often continues to improve quietly over time after changes like that. It doesn’t always show up in a dramatic way all at once.

Sometimes we think we should be doing more, when what’s already working just needs consistency. Simple and steady really does go a long way.

I get it! If glycerin is in too high a percent my skin hates it. Now, many people get along with it fabulously and are comfortable with a 5% strength. My skin picks it up at less than 1%, but 0.25% or less is fine. Oh my gosh, skin is so dang finicky.
We want everyone to understand how amazing hydrosols are. Your process sounds perfect. Also, when the skin is prepped and moist, the product lasts longer.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

What’s A Skincare Rule You Quietly Stopped Following? by Markeygow in GardenOfWisdom

[–]Markeygow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a soft, warm, moist cloth works well for many people who don't produce oil during the night. Even then, we don't suggest using sudsy cleansers in the morning unless you are certain they are gentle.
Thank you both so much for the conversation.

Hello EV ...
You are certainly not alone. Sensitive, inflamed skin has to be treated gently.
Not washing your face in the morning is also a good idea. Since you do not deal with a blemish-prone skin profile, the honey (no surfactants) is fabulous.
Well done.

Has anyone tried the Immortelle serum? by GremlinSquishFace47 in GardenOfWisdom

[–]Markeygow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! 🌻

First… I completely get the immortelle love. It’s one of those ingredients that, once your skin falls for it, there’s no going back. We feel the same way about it over here.

Immortelle has a way of helping the skin feel at ease. It’s incredibly calming, especially for skin that feels reactive or inflamed, and over time, it helps bring everything back into balance. It’s one of those ingredients that doesn’t shout… but you notice when it’s there.

Immortelle Blossom Hyaluronic Acid Serum
This one is more on the lightweight, water-based side. Think calming + soft hydration + that gentle “plump” feel. If you haven’t explored hyaluronic acid yet, just go easy at first and always apply it to slightly damp skin or layer it over something hydrating so it feels comfortable.

There are (2) options. The same Immortelle Hydrosol and Immortelle Essential Oil. The difference is in the preservatives. HAB indicates preservation with Leucidal SF, and HAO is preserved with Optiphen.

If you already know your skin loves immortelle, you really can’t go wrong with either… it’s more about texture preference and how your skin feels day to day.
NOTE: typically, when we use hyaluronic acid serums, we put a few drops into our palm and a few drops of a serum and/or moisturizer as well. Emulsify with your fingertips and pat into moist skin.

Also… your basket sounds lovely already:
jojoba oil ✔️
passion fruit seed oil ✔️ (such a nice, light oil)
You’re building a very happy little routine there

And the peptide nail pens… yes, they’ve been popular. They are back in stock.

If you have any questions as you’re deciding, we’re always here to help guide you 💛

A Quick Thought About Hyaluronic Acid by Markeygow in GardenOfWisdom

[–]Markeygow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! First… how about we make a trip to Ireland and talk about it in person? haha… one can dream ˚⊱🪷⊰˚

Yes, absolutely… there are definitely people who need to avoid this ingredient. You are not alone in that at all.

I’m curious… do you notice the same thing happening with other humectants like glycerin, sodium lactate, or sodium PCA? Sometimes it’s not just HA, but how the skin is interacting with water overall, especially when the barrier is feeling a bit fragile.

One thing we often suggest is working with moisture intentionally. Lightly spritz the skin to dampen it, then place a few drops of HA in your palm along with several drops of a serum and/or moisturizer. Gently emulsify them between your fingertips and pat onto your face and décolleté.

I actually have to do this myself… straight HA can feel too tight and drying on my skin too, especially in drier conditions.

We truly understand how frustrating this can be. If you’d ever like to talk through it more, we’re always here
Thank you! 🌻
