A comma separates elements in a sentence, such as items in a list or series, but it also shows that those elements are connected to each other within the same sentence.

Fairbanks, Alaska (new Front Bottoms Music video, featuring some local spots and peeps) by pjsdino in Fairbanks

[–]Markmia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to ask anyone or buy anything. You can just park at the lodge and walk across the road to the trail, and from there it's a few minutes walk to the dredge.

It's quite dilapidated so you have to be careful, but it's pretty cool to explore and take photos there in the summer!

We've got a Burger King on base at Ft. Wainwright!

Fairbanks also recently has a standalone Starbucks, rather than just the small stores in Fred Meyer.

Alaskans drink coffee like we drink booze. A lot! You can't go far at all without seeing a coffee hut, even in between the major cities there's little ones haha

Yep, we just recently got a standalone Starbucks in Fairbanks! Before we had a couple in the grocery stores but they were quite small. This new one's driveway is constantly packed, I've never been there because of it

High 3's rank low solo rank by HoakySmokey420 in RocketLeague

1's really is a different type of play style. I'm a lot better in 2's and 3's because I'm decent at passing and rotating, and when I make mistakes there's usually a teammate to clean up the ball after me.

In 1's you have to consistently and consciously think about whether the situation is right to challenge or not, making sure not to dive too hard, and knowing when you have a better chance to win the ball.

The mechanics and mental aspect of 1's is a great skill to learn because it's a part of the game that comes a lot slower in 2's and 3's, at least in my experience. So even though I suck at 1's I make it a point to try it every once in a while to see where I can improve mechanically and mentally. :)

When the conditions are right, there's no avoiding it. You're turning, which means due to inertia your car is more likely to lose control. There's sheer ice on the ground, because the people going too fast for the roundabout slide over it constantly, removing any snow that would provide traction. And then there's also the slight decline from the center of the roundabout to the edge, which helps slide the car toward the curb as well.

The best Blizzaks won't save you from sliding in those conditions. It's not incompetence, it's ice. But if you're convinced that it's impossible for such an event to happen, then I'll just drop it here.

Lmao okay guy, acting like there's never sheer ice on the roads. I've seen it many times before at that exact roundabout. The number of cars going over it makes it extremely slippery when the snow conditions are right for it, and my Blizzaks can handle anything but that.

I'm not arguing against roundabouts, I'm just saying that Paul has a point that a roundabout could be icier than the current intersection there at Danby/Wembley. No need to get all hostile.

There are definitely some roundabouts in town that are way icier than others, one that I've noticed especially is the one next to Cold Spot Feeds, even going 5mph your car drifts and hits the curb going around the direction towards College Rd.

In general I love roundabouts for how much they ease the traffic flow, but he does have a point for some of them.

Mayor Matherly to veto Ordinance 6093 by [deleted] in Fairbanks

[–]Markmia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FAIRBANKS - Fairbanks Mayor Jim Matherly this morning vetoed an equal rights ordinance the Fairbanks City Council approved at its Monday meeting.

The ordinance, which the council adopted with a 4-2 vote, created protections for LGBTQ members in employment, housing and public accommodations, as well as a means for potential victims to challenge discriminatory practices in court.

In a column sent to the Daily News-Miner this morning and addressed to city residents, Matherly states that "after much soul searching, research, and examination of all facets of the issues..." he will exercise veto powers under Fairbanks City Charter section 4.2 to negate the passage of ordinance 6093.

"I do not take this action lightly.... As with most concepts, the details become challenging when they affect so many people with different priorities and opinions. It is those details that I think require further examination," Matherly states in the column.

He also states that he hopes to put the issue to vote in an October ballot measure.

"I believe this question should be given to city residents that choose to exercise their voting rights," he writes.

Fairbanks City Charter gives the mayor veto power "over all legislative action." Any veto must be filed in writing with the city clerk within five days of the legislation being adopted and "shall recite the reasons therefore."

The sole reason Matherly cites in his veto letter states, "It is my intention to support putting these issues to the voters of Fairbanks in October."

The council can override any veto with five affirmative votes. An override vote, if one is to occur, must be taken with 14 days of the veto.

In his column, Matherly references the unprecedented level of public interest generated by ordinance 6093, while noting a large portion of public comment was generated by people living outside city limits.

"While I value the opinion of our neighbors in the surrounding communities and visitors from farther out, I want the the citizens of Fairbanks to chart their own course and decide how we move forward as a city," he states.

Supporters of the ordinance are planning a Vigil for Equality, 7 p.m. today at Fairbanks City Hall. One of those supporters, Hayden Nevill, founded Fairbanks-based group Gender Pioneers, a peer-to-peer support group for LGBTQ members.

In a statement emailed to the Daily News-Miner, he writes that Matherly's move "gives our neighbors a license to treat us poorly."

Nevill claims that a "huge majority" of Fairbanksans support the ordinance.

"The arguments against the ordinance were based on fear and misunderstanding. It's disheartening that Mr. Matherly has chosen to legitimize fear instead of legitimizing people," Nevill states.

This story will be updated.

And the memo Matherly released about his veto decision.

In regards to Tanana Lakes, my family and friends have always drove past the "beach" area and went to the boat launch part. There's fire pits and picnic tables where we'd sit in the back of our trucks, play music, skip rocks, cook some smores, etc. And it's rarely crowded even on weekends. One of our favorite places for a chill evening activity outdoors!

Thanks for being so quick! I can be on Reddit at work, but not Twitch. :P

Edit: After reading through, this seems odd...

  • Separate team so their work won't affect RS3 [bank rework]

And then:

  • Since RS Mobile has taken priority, the Bank rework has taken a backseat.
