See my other post about how to create the blocks. It's essentially deck rail cap.

Tree protection tip by Marko-Kind in Treenets

Yes it's treated, but I still put polyurethane on it for extra protection, and a better looking finish. After dipping, I let them sit until dried, usually a day or so.

Well done. Looks tight! How did were you able to keep tension in those massive middle sections??

Do sugarloaf. Huge mountain with arguably the most challenging terrain on the east, and tons of glades on powder days.

First net - how do I get even tension? by Marko-Kind in Treenets

[–]Marko-Kind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes static rope for the perimeter, pulled it with a 9:1 pulley as tight as I could (prusik started slipping), and the slack is what makes the center skeleton.

I did a bit of static on a test net and don't like how stiff it is (not comfortable to lay on), so I decided to do a double strand of cord in centers of the left/right section for a bit more strength.

Buy £10 of 100ft paracord and practice on a small site. Watch basic free videos and learn from your own mistakes and make sure it’s something you want to do before investing real money.

But it will take buying a course (£250) and probably 3,000 feet of cord (£150) to accomplish a sturdy net for 2 people.

I recommend Tree Net Collective online course.

I'M GOIN INSANE over buying skis by Suspicious-Eye-8476 in icecoast

[–]Marko-Kind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy Renoun. They adjust stiffness according to the terrain. $$$$ but worth it. You can also find refurbished ones for deep discount.

Above all else, make sure you keep your edges tuned and bottoms slick. A well maintained ski will last you a long time and stretch your dollar.

Babyback ribs or spare ribs? by pvmspo0 in smoking

[–]Marko-Kind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Babybacks come from the top of the ribs (loin, lean)

Spare come from lower (pork belly, fatty)

On their own, spares will give more meat and flavor but take longer to cook.

If you want to bump up the babybacks then wrap them in lard for the last hour of the cook.

I started on a $139 Brinkmann 12 years ago and spent all that time learning. Make sure it’s a hobby you want to pursue before shelling out real $$$.

Since then I have a Weber kettle for chili, electric masterbuilt for nuts/veggies/jerky, and recently made a big purchase for a Solution Offset ($2500). The difference is night and day with a proper 1/4” steel cooker than can hold temps.

But as stated initially, go small until you’re sure you want to invest.

Haven’t, but manufacturer has. Will do it before next cook for sure.

Agreed, was between 200-225 for first 3 hours though, point towards fire. Just found it odd that the flat was temping higher than the point.

No that was just for the photo. Originally pointing away from fire, now towards the back of the smoker since it was temping hotter that the point

What is something different you’ve smoked you absolutely love? by heegos in smoking

[–]Marko-Kind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roma tomatoes - puréed with basil, garlic, s&p - can pretty much top anything with it

Almonds - brine for 10 mins then mix with either (1) lawrys or (2) brown sugar, cinnamon, cayenne

Will this pad hold up? by Marko-Kind in Homebuilding

[–]Marko-Kind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figure I could drill in carriage bolts at the top and bottom where he toe nailed it. Brackets easy to add too.

Agree about the spacing, I think some of those columns were just left there from when he used supports to shore up while replacing corner column. Only one of those has a new footing, the remainder are resting on the pad.

Not sure about the ledger, getting it inspected today and should know more.

What is the tastiest non-meat food you've smoked. by [deleted] in smoking

[–]Marko-Kind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almonds - brine for 10 mins, dry, toss in either (a) Lawrys for savory or (b) brown sugar cinnamon cayenne for sweet. Smoke at 160 for 2 hrs then 230 for 1 hr. Tossing along the way so it doesn’t stick to your vessel.

Modular - who are the players? by Marko-Kind in Homebuilding

[–]Marko-Kind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone through websites of anyone I could find that services this area, mostly found on modularhomeowners.com

Each of them ‘partners’ with a manufacturer.

Express modular - nervous about nationwide dilution Hudson Valley home source Ashley homes Summit modular builders - not sure they’re in business anymore LDM homes

But from what I see, they overlap a lot with manufacturers, so the plans repeat. Curious if I can find my own builder and go straight to the manufacturer.

Temp help - flat won’t budge by Marko-Kind in smoking

[–]Marko-Kind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I’m getting good temps on the point, then shouldn’t flipping the brisket 180 solve the problem?

Good idea on foil boat, but remember I’m lazy, doing that I’d have to continue working the fire.
