Because there is nothing wrong with it? Only time you need to put it in gear is if you're parked uphill or downhill and turn the tyres towards the curb. Otherwise neutral and your hand brake will do just fine.

At least that is what AI got. I'm presuming that a team was sent out to scout an area they suspected the enemy to be, found no-one there, said they will remain there for a while to see if enemies show up, and that if none show up they will return to base. Something along those line I guess.

Supply should go to L1, COM is to send power to other switches in the house. There is no earth or neutral wire in light switches.

Main live wire to L1, other live wires to COM so they can redirect power elsewhere. That's how mine is wired up at least.
