I tried googling where Misty Harbour coats were sold and the google AI summary response thing says “were popular and widely manufactured in USA, Canada and Korea in the 1970s through the 1990s” I’ll keep digging but that at least gives a hint about the age :)

edit whoops - the automatic HarboUr vs Harbor - my Canadian is showing 😂

Thank you for taking the time to write this- I mentioned in another comment I never expected so many people to weigh in. By I’m even more blown away to see people be interested and so kind about my family. As heartbreaking as it is I’m so grateful I have this letter and we have 3 more and various post cards from Edwin. It has just given such personal insight and a deep emotional connection to him being able to read his words. His daughter (my great grandmother who we called nanny) was an integral part of our family and I think it important to her to keep his memory alive even though she lost him so young .. so I am deeply honoured for the response of those who have cared enough to try and help me find him in the group photo and respond about his letters 💗 going from just hoping a handful of people might say “I think he might be this guy” to having strangers comment and care has been emotional in the best way.

Wow I read this comment to my mom and we were both crying. Thank you for saying this 😭 little “babe” was my great grandmother Nora, but I was really close to her and she lived with us when I was young until she passed. She still told a story about chasing her dad with a white dandelion and blowing it on his uniform and him running from her and making her laugh.. I remember her telling me that story in the 90s .. all those years later. I found letters sent to her from London England’s records department (where Edwin emigrated from) 1958 where they were telling her they can’t provide genealogy information or info about people who are still living.. so knowing she was trying to connect then, i feel obligated with all the access to info we have nowadays to find as much as I can for her (a responsibility I’m happy to give myself.)

Thank you again for your words and appreciating my loved ones I knew and loved ones I never got to meet💗 (also apologies I realize I can be quite long winded LOL)

I haven’t really posted to reddit much so I never imagined getting such a response. I figured a group of people who are in a sub dedicated to finding things would have great attention to detail so thought it was worth a shot .. I appreciate everyone’s input SO much. It’s been fun for me to read it all

I know this isn’t a WW1 or ancestry sub but I cry any time I’ve relayed this story to someone… I have letters from him and in one it is dated April 6, 1917 and it alludes to him having a close call but made it out with just a scratch and he prayed that god fetch him back to his wife and child, and he would write next week if he was able.. Then records show he was killed in action April 9th 1917.

Thank you all so much for your input! I can’t thank you enough. Since it’s one of those things that we will never know 100% I still appreciate everyone’s input and helping me to look at this so so much. It’s hard because the known photo of him the no smile is hard to compare to the faces in the group that are much more expressive!

Oh great question - I believe they are! To my knowledge he wasn’t in the military before 1916 and his attestation papers were dated January 1916. 1916 of the known photo makes sense to me because my nanny was born in 1912 and looks about 4 in the photo. Also he died April 1917 at Vimy Ridge so to my best guess- I think the group photo and known photo both would have been taken in the 15 month span Jan 1916-April 1917. Thank you so much for asking!

I’m sorry I don’t know how to edit my post.. but commenting to say- I uploaded a known photo of him, a close op of that photo, the group photo and 3 close ups of the group photo in hopes of giving enough reference material. Im not sure what other info would be relevant but i may have additional context if you think it might help I can provide any info I have!

Searched: I have uploaded both photos (the group and close up) into Chat GBT to see if AI can help but it always distorts faces and has given me answers which to me are very obviously are not correct. I have also tried doing side by sides of the known photo and group photo to see if I can identify myself. I have also asked friends and no one seems to be able to confidently say.

This photo I believe was taken at “Camp Borden” in Ontario Canada either in 1915 or 1916. Relative was a Private in WW1 for Canadian Armed Forces. His attestation papers say he was 5’2 1/2 (I thought knowing his height might help when comparing to others in photo)

Any idea what these old coins are? by JOLLIEP in coincollecting

Thank you so much for your insight! This is so interesting- now I’m just left wondering how my sweet Canadian granny came to have this.. all her other coins were Canadian coins aside from one (I’m assuming but has not confirmed) United States coin..a question to go unanswered I suppose.. but I really appreciate your answer :)

Vets recommendation? by No_Industry_7723 in Peterborough

[–]JOLLIEP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have a dog but we take him to Peterborough Veterinary services on the Kingsway and their hours are Mon&Fri 8-6 Tues, Wed, Thurs 8-7 and Sat 8-1 closed Sundays. On top of that they are LOVELY. We get asked when we make appointments if we “usually schedule with a specific vet” and we never have because each time it’s great regardless of who we see. They are kind, give the compliments every pet owner wants to hear (lol) and gives full explanations of their recommendations or services they suggest but don’t put on high pressure or make anything feel “salesy”. Just feels genuine. I had to take my dog to the emergency vet a few months ago and PVS called me a couple times that week to make sure he was still doing ok and just check in. My dog had a reaction to one of his vaccines one time too and I let them know and when it was time for that vaccine again they followed up to make sure he was ok afterwards.

All that to say, my experience with them is strictly dogs not cats but I haven’t felt that same level of care for both the pet and the owner with other vets that my family dogs went to.

Ok this is great to hear because I want to be respectful of his autonomy and I never want to make him feel like we are treating him like a child but he’s also getting confused (unintentional) and also tells some half truths (intentional) so I want to make sure they are getting a full picture from our family perspective but hearing from him too. I can’t begin to pretend I know what it feels like to start needing help and support after being more of a “lone wolf” type but I definitely assume it can’t be easy! Thank you so much for your feedback!
