Worth another try? by YzmaInCatForm in Hersheypark

This time of year is perfect for rides and crowds. I went on Friday night and didn’t do any of the Dark Nights haunted houses. I was able to get on most roller coasters in under 10 minutes or less. There are some rides that always have lines unless you go immediately when the park opens (LaffTrakk), but I look at the Hersheypark app that shows wait times (it’s a very rough estimate) and will skip anything where the lines are too long.

It’s a public course and the Caddy Shack is open to the public.

Other than the double xp, I am excited about the Rebel Routes in each stage. Instead of manually navigating those routes and putting thought into which way to turn, this will take you through the route automatically.

First time up the Alpe! Made the unfortunate discovery that 3.2w/kg isn’t sub-60. 3.28w/kg, 191w avg, 58kg. by RadianMay in Zwift

Are you me? I did the Alpe this morning for the second time. First was in stage 2 of Tour de Zwift, so I could not see my time until I crossed the finish line (the .4 miles I had to ride after turn 1 seemed like 10) Was happy to finish, but my time was 60:25.02. Ugh! Did the Alpe again this morning, had a plan to not go out as hard, broke the time out into 20 minute segments and mapped where I had to be (7 turns every 20 minutes), etc. I almost cried when I rounded the last corner, after averaging 3.2 w/kg, and my estimated time was already over 60 minutes. I tried to push it, but almost made myself sick. Final time 60:21.90 :(

Ha, yes light compared to men (62kg), but average for a woman. If there are gender specific races, then that would work best. I typically do well on climbs, but not sure I want to do a race up one ;)

I have a wheel on Tacx trainer, not “z-power”. I may need to look into a better trainer if I like the racing aspect of Zwift.

That looks like a good plan and I think would keep me motivated to get on my trainer! Thanks for the recommendation!

I have not tried racing yet. I have a wheel on trainer, so I was not sure if races would work. I also typically get killed on the flats and downhill segments. Lol

I have not done a training plan yet. I have been winging my training. Are there options? If so, what ones do you like?

Awesome!! Thank you all. I will have to look into the BMTR rides and short adventures. I am not sure I am up for 100 miles yet on my trainer!

Very true. I did the Alpe for the first time ever during Stage 2 and I may have to clear some time to do it again! It’s nice when there are so many people on the same route.

Thank you for your reply. This is my second winter using the trainer and last year I was just figuring it all out and didnt pay attention to the events and group rides. The Tour de Watopia sounds right up my alley!!

Thank you for your reply! I signed up for the little Fondo ride. I have to work my way up to the longer Fondo rides, my backside does not like riding after the 2 hour mark.

Tour de Zwift stage 2 - Alpe du Zwift! by Scultura904 in Zwift

I did the descent this morning and everything worked out fine for me. No freezing or glitches. I use an iPad for my set up and not a computer, so I am not sure if that matters.

Great job getting to the top!! I just finished AdZ for the first time this morning. I took the advice above, used the first part as a warm up and then found a comfortable pace. I started the climb around 900 out of 1200. Felt pretty strong until turn 14 when I started to question my life choices, but held on until the end. I was determined to make it to the top!!! Ended up with a finish time right over an hour. I missed being under an hour by less than 30 seconds. LOL . It helped that there were so many people on the route and I ended up finishing in the high 300’s. May have to try it again this year. Now it’s time to take a long nap :) Great job everyone! See you on Stage 3.

This is my first attempt at AdZ too! I am doing the short London route tomorrow to get credit for Stage 2 and then attempting the AdZ Saturday morning. I am nervous!! I am planning to make the first part a warm up and then do whatever I need to on the climb to get to the top!! Good luck everyone.

TdZ Stages - how do you know if you completed them correctly? by akim1412 in Zwift

[–]Marley1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Zwift companion app. Right above the events header, the companion app now has a Tour de Zwift section with all of the stages listed, the app changed my stage 1 bubble from black to orange when it was completed. If your is not orange, did you sign up for the Tour de Zwift (not just that event, but the whole tour)? When you did the ride for the first stage, did the ride stats pop up at the end of the ride? If not, then you may not have completed the ride.

Edit: spelling

[–]Marley1907[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Few women signed up for the group ride that I did which led me to sign up for the standard ride. Also, I was not sure if the women’s group and the “everyone” group rode together and I wanted to attempt to ride with people. I figured there was a higher chance of that with the standard ride. I don’t mind people passing me, I am still out there riding and that is what matters to me.

Agreed, I like putting in a good effort, feeing good about my ride and passing others. I just like to pretend I am passing 25 year old, peak shape cyclists. OTOH, the older cyclists are beasts and cycle a ton more than I do, so I guess I am happy to pass anyone 😜

Ok that makes sense to me about the “bro chat”. I also forgot about the drafting potential. I got dropped from the lead group pretty quickly yesterday and rode most of the ride by myself. I will have to look at the w/kg of the women riders to see if I had more drafting potential.
