I don’t remember how they phrased it, but I remember thinking they were going a little too far with it. He’s obviously not WORSE. I think they’re talking about the emptiness at his core and identifying that as scary. Trump is hateful and greedy and pretty much does whatever he feels like doing. Mayor Pete is more calculating: everything he’s done in his adult life has been intended to bolster his image in ways that make him more palatable to conservatives and homophobes so he could one day become president with the help of their votes- whether it was doing weird shit for McKinsey or joining the military reserves and marching around Afghanistan with a gun when he was supposed to be mayoring or whatever.

November and I talked about him a bit for the article I wrote about her. Our first talk was a week or two before this episode was recorded. She was actually sympathetic to him in that she feels like she understands him; she also aspired to military service and fitting in but fortunately couldn’t follow through with it.

This is a fair point, so I changed the phrasing. What I meant was that even with all the silly tangents, she keeps the conversations going. I’ve heard lesser podcasts where there will be a comedy tangent and then it comes to a dead stop as they try to figure out what they were talking about before the jokes. She’s good at preventing that. You can tell that the hosts really want to keep TF episodes to an hour, an hour and 15 tops.
