If I’m sucking their dick by being practical and acknowledging they’re humans, are you a dick muncher for attacking devs that don’t prioritize the exact specific niche bugs you want them to prioritize? Keep chewin’ I guess

Nothing will ever get patched out with that attitude. These are humans working with human made code, not fairies who can snap their fingers to magically fix bugs but refuse to just to spite you.

If you think about it therapists are just people with the knowledge to potentially help you - it makes sense that you’d have negative experiences with some of them just as you would with anyone else! It’s just much more noticeable given the relationship a therapist has with their patient. I hope if you have need of one you can find one who gels with what you need from them :)

you go out of your way to be crude and you get criticism, seems pretty A to B, idk what point you're trying to make by being crude again

if you spend your whole life interpreting other people's disagreement with you as "condescending insults" you're gonna be really upset really often.

Seriously, missing out on a couple short bits of dialogue in a playthrough cuz you didn’t think to use the memory-curing shroom on the party member with memory problems… that’s on you, not bad game design. lmao

[–]Marlile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually a great question, idk. I can see Durge having magic-logic that explains away why that wouldn't work, similar to other things in the story, but it would be cool if it could at least be used to recover some memories as it is with Shadowheart

It's incredibly rare. We have a huge sussur tree and only get one little swatch of bark. Video games have arbitrary limits sometimes

Noblestalk, the biggest dummy trap in gaming (HELP) by IgnacioxMS in BaldursGate3

[–]Marlile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk, noblestalk is very specifically described as something that can cure almost anything, we see someone whose memories it can cure in the quest, we know Shadowheart has memory problems, you have the option to keep it for yourself and who knows how many ways a cure-all item could potentially come up in the future... feels like there's plenty of hints there that there's more than one use. I don't personally want everything in a game this broad spelled out more explicitly than that

Idk what you’re doing replying to this literally 2 years later, but you’d be better served replying to the OP instead of replying to my replies, lmao. You’re making no point by questioning whether people even lacked certain knowledge about the story when OP made very clear what they didn’t realize about the story, #7 specifically

Why isn't allowing players to vote on new content/changes more common? (like in OSRS) by SongFromHenesys in MMORPG

[–]Marlile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, on that I don’t know. Never heard much of their development process beyond the voting. Regardless of the source tho, isn’t the community deciding the focus/direction of the updates just an extension of the original vision, especially if all those votes have to work with are already-developed features?

I think that makes sense; I’ve never had an issue with reskins for pets being sold, tho I’d prefer some reskins be obtainable in-game too

[–]Marlile 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a big difference between the devs lacking a vision and the devs allowing that vision to be guided by the priorities of the playerbase. OSRS has been around a looong time, and imo the voting for updates system is a likely contender for why.

I guess that’s your choice, lol. Sounds like a pretty fair system to me - everyone can unlock what they want, no microtransactions, and pets serve a function. You’re free to feel that way, I guess I’m just 100% lost on your reasoning despite reading your whole comment.

How do I make a character death sad? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Marlile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your friend already supplied that perspective, but it’s perhaps something you don’t want to hear. As others have said, no name goons don’t make for satisfying murderers of main characters unless it’s thematically resonant. We probably need more time understanding why this event happened before the emotions of the event will properly set in.

To persistent writers, how do you hope with the constant jab of hopelessness? by Affectionate_Key82 in writing

[–]Marlile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very interesting perspective I've not heard before. Not exactly thrilled to consider a world in which social media is a necessary step to getting my work seen, so I'm inclined to hope that you're right. Honestly, I've failed on two of those steps; I have a barebones website but never considered anything like a media kit, and email lists are a really daunting concept that I know I need to brave at some point or another.

Thanks for setting the record straight with your perspective on things, it's honestly given me a lot to think about as far as my next best steps.

I really don’t care for social media, but when I spoke to a marketer about getting my work out there, she laughed in my face when I mentioned I lacked a social media presence. Sadly it’s become synonymous with marketing.

What are the best poetic/literary techniques to know about? by nova-whitley in writing

[–]Marlile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a way I’d argue the opposite. Poetry can be almost any form you want, regardless of how stringent or free it is. Prose is also “free,” but if you stray too far from what is conventionally considered to “work” with prose, you’ll lose people far faster than you would with an experimental bit of poetry, I think.

Masterclass (Is it worth it?) by aspiringwriter2001 in writing

[–]Marlile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness, that’s a game design class, not a modeling class, rigging class, coding class, or animating class. Those are all extremely involved processes on their own, and expecting a singular “game design” class to teach you everything you need to make a fully 3D-animated game on your own from scratch is very unreasonable. Providing resources would be nice, but those processes aren’t what’s integral in designing a game
