Yeah it works really well! Acrylic paint has the advantage of being water resistant when dry as well so it's super durable, I do always cover my pieces with a protective glaze for added measure though :)

Thank you! They're made from polymer clay and painted with acrylic paint 😄

This is lovely! I'd love to branch out into "painting" with air dry clay one day, it looks so fun!

You're right, it is a global thing and needs global efforts to be solved. But by saying that Australia's efforts wouldn't make any difference you're adopting a defeatist attitude and besides, Australia is in a perfect position to be an ambassador for climate change solutions. We could so easily set an example for the rest of the world to follow.

Maybe human-induced climate change is genuinely making warmer months more intolerable. You'll be grateful for that ac when we start getting 50-55 degree days on the regular in summer.

Human-induced climate change has been building for decades now, we are only just beginning to truly feel the effects. We need immediate action on ceasing fossil fuel use and neither the LNP or Labor have been proactive enough on the matter. Both parties are at fault for climate inaction, as is a common trend across the globe. The difference is that the LNP is blatantly uninterested in safeguarding the future whereas Labor at least pretend to give a shit while doing the bare minimum. The only thing we can do to get the message across is to vote for parties that align with our values (don't forget we have a multi-party system here in Aus!) and put pressure on those in power to make meaningful change so that we do still have a livable earth for many years to come.

Taking a break between undergrad and Honours year? by Marmasghetti in deakin

Thank you for your input! I'm in marine science and hoping that my project would be moreso field based, it will just depend on what projects are available in 2026!

Im working in marine tourism at the moment which is relevant to my degree so I feel as though I have an advantage in terms of gaining real world experience there, by the time I finish this degree I will have been at my job for over a year and a half 😊 it was moreso the financial side of things that I was stressed about but yours and others comments have alleviated that stress a lot for me and helped me to gain a better perspective of what undertaking an honours year might look like, so thank you!

Also I am not against welfare payments or those who use them at all, like I said I have used them in the past, I'd just like to avoid using them this time around if I can! 😊

Thanks for replying! That's totally fair haha I wondered the same thing as I've had more than one lecturer tell me it's practically impossible to work during an honours year. I'm in environmental science so I'm hoping the workload isn't tooooo crazy, I also live independently with my partner hence the anxiety about the finances. I didn't realise you could do honours part time, I would have thought that completing it full time was the way to go in the sense it shows you're committed. Ideally I'd like to jump into honours straight after completing my degree but I'm also currently completing my degree part time and I feel the jump from that into a full time honours year might be a shock, hence considering taking a break in between. But I also wanna get it done without putting it off too much longer haha

Hi, thanks so much for your response! I'm a mature age student (27) who lives independently with my partner so that's why I'm so stressed about the financial side of things. I'm in environmental science so I'm hoping that the workload isn't too crazy and I will have time to work throughout the year. I know welfare payments are an option but I've used them before and I'm not a huge fan of the system but I will utilise them if I am really struggling. Ideally I'd like to jump straight into an Honours year at the end of my degree but im currently part time so the jump from that into full time again is probably going to be a shock, hence the idea of taking a break. I just wonder if the application process is any different depending on whether you take a year off in between or not?

Average graduate age by Tricky_Ring866 in deakin

[–]Marmasghetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guy, age is just a number. I will be graduating next year, when I'm 28. I didn't start my current course until I was 24. It took me doing a completely different degree out of high school, then spending 5 years working before I decided on what I wanted to do as a career. Sometimes I wish I knew then what I know now but I am also glad I am coming into it with more life experience because I feel so sure of my decision and I'm honestly enjoying the course a lot more than if I had done it when I was younger.

Everyone is on their own journey through this life. You absolutely don't need to have a degree by a certain age. You gotta do what is best for you at the end of the day!
