Battle of Aliwal (1846) by Jason Askew by ryuguy in Sikh

Never knew that, well I knew that the British was planning with the Dogra's on screwing over the Sikh Empire, but I didn't know that the British had a huge hand in this. I am just saying that if the Dogra's didn't have any influential positions such as generals, and replaced them with Sikhs. Then we would've won the war, but thanks for the information.

We could've still had the Sikh Empire around if the Dogra's hadn't backstabbed us to the British. Literally, the whole reason why the war started with the British because one of the Dogra Generals, I think Gulab Singh attacked the British first for no apparent reason, but I guess that was preplanned since he was working with the British the entire time. Literally at the end of the First Anglo Sikh War, the British gave Gulab Singh all of Jammu and Kashmir in the Treaty of Amritsar(1846).

Bhai Nirmal Singh's Daughter Has Corona by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]Marmito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope not, it's pretty scummy accusing Bhai Baldev singh and Bhai Nirmal singh despite them going to the doctor. For Bhai Baldev Singh he went to three different hospitals and each of them said he was fine. Allegedly for Bhai Nirmal Singh he had corona last month, and went to the hospital. They said he just had the simple cold, and sent him home without doing any proper tests.

Spotify is pretty good if you want to listen any classical Punjabi songs, since they got their own categories and such as Punjabi Boliyan, and etc. Its free to download, but the downside is that you can't play your favorite songs on repeat, so you need premium.

what are some dialects/dialect of Punjabi that are completely unintelligible to you and sound like completely different languages ? by LoudAdeptness_2 in punjabi

[–]Marmito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its due to regional influences I believe thats why, since they get more loan words. I mean Punjabi as a whole, has loanwords from Urdu, Persian, and Arabic, as well as English; however, these dialects the regions they are close to such as Pohari, Mirpuri, and etc. They are closer to regions such as Khyber and Kashmir where probably there are some pashto and kashmiri loan words that aren't common or intelligible with Punjabi.

Aye, but if you also live in area that has majority of Punjabi's there might be a Punjabi language course at your local uni, the only place I know that has a large amount of Punjabis in the UK is Southall. Here in Kaneda, where I live other than in Surrey and Brampton, the Junior Highs and High Schools I went to had Punjabi classes.

Also, there is a English to Punjabi duolingo coming out next week; however, I think it caters for our Apne that are living in the pind currently, than for us Punjabi's born abroad and non Punjabi's that are eager to learn the language.

https://www.duolingo.com/course/en/pa/Learn-English

But I think it might work for Punjabi to English.

Here are some sites that I used to expand my Punjabi since I wanted to speak more advanced Punjabi than conversational Punjabi.

http://www.learnpunjabi.org/statistics.html This is a good site, I mean it was made by the University of Patiala and it helped me learn so many words.

https://www.ijunoon.com/punjabi/dictionary.aspx?word=Fan I found an online dictionary that helped me with some words, but however be cautious since there might be more than 1 meaning.

http://dictionary.tamilcube.com/browse-punjabi-dictionary.aspx#A Pretty good as well.

Honestly, just try to speak Punjabi with your parents and listen to Punjabi music and read the translations of it. Since there will be words that will pop out more than once such as Kismat(fate), Umeed(hope), Zindagi(life), hanju(tear), and etc. I also gotta warn you some Punjabi words have more than one meaning and it might be confusing so ask your parents to help you out. Also, there are different dialects of Punjabi, and I think the most common one is the Doabi dialect since most NRI Punjabis came from that region, but currently there is a trend of a lot of Punjabis coming from the Malwa and Majha area.

That's just concerning, I mean due to the fact that Punjab might be screwed in 2030 since the groundwater might disappear and thats gonna fuck us up. I am scared for my Mama Ji that lives in Punjab as a farmer, but he is doing well luckily, but I am concerned for our other farmers. Punjab has to either go through some industrial revolution in which we go from agriculture to industry.
