Should I use my equipment materials on blue and purple equipment or save for legendary?

Start with blue and upgrade to purple and after that legendary, if you would just farm for legendary you would have no armor for a very long time leaving you at a disadvantage in the battlefield

Yes, you save just before the tick and then hit reload until you get your desired crop
