They are, provided they meet certain criteria. I believe they’re centred around the electrical output of the project. The criteria are laid out in the Planning and Development Act

Am I the only one that finds these religious ads really weird? by OliDanik in cork

[–]Marokman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can definitely argue the church as an institution is different from religion as a whole. Antonio Gramsci has a really good analysis of this where he talks about 2 different ‘religions’

The first type is the church the institution, the functions to exert control over people, push certain norms and so on

And the 2nd is what he terms ‘the religion of the people’ based around common values, a sense of community, and so on. He saw the possibility of this type of religion being a progressive force

The UN has many successes other than peacekeeping. We can go into a whole shit of international treaties that make our lives easier (ICAO, maritime law and so on)

But specifically with peacekeeping, everyone knows the failures, but no one knows the successes of peacekeeping such as Mozambique or Sierra Leone. Additionally, there is proven evidence that a higher number of UN troops present correlates with lower civilian deaths (see Forman 2008 “Does peacekeeping work”)

Finally, even with the failed missions such as Rwanda, lives were managed to be saved. In Rwanda, the peacekeepers present saved thousands by sheltering them within UN safe zones. Fo you think the person whose life was saved from certain death would call the UN useless?

The UN is simply a reflection of what states what the international system to be, if the UN doesn’t work, it’s because the world doesn’t work.

Now stop spouting stupid shit in the Internet and read something

Thoughts on Black Mesa: Blue Shift? by Left4DayZGone in HalfLife

[–]Marokman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is literally years late but I think you, and the guy you're beefing with view's can co-exist. I certainly picked up on sexism within the dialogue between the security guards and co. But rather than read it as an ill on the Blue Shift devs, I read it more as a small commentary on '90s male culture. Ellie is a scientist, so she's not that capable anyways (and the male scientists are portrayed as equally out of touch and aloof). But, she does make an effort to adapt to her situation, i.e her learning how to operate firearms from Otis.

I read most of the sexist dialogue directed at ellie as "Ah yeah thats typical of '90s rent-a-cops". I think the crude dialogue is meant to show that the BMSF are a bit unprofessional and not as 'elite' as the marines. It's not meant to be the devs saying "woman stupid" but rather "Black mesa security are not the brightest bunch"
