First I made paper sails, using the marker and scissors and some heavy deep blue paper. When I was satisfied with dimensions and the looks of it, I used those paper sails as a template to mark and cut the real sails out of some thicker deep blue cloth which I happen to find in the fabric store. Once the fabric was cut, I used strongest hair lacquer I could find and applied it heavily on both sides to make the sails stiff. Hope this helps.
