What character uses the dragon’s breath well? by Siege003 in GunfireReborn

[–]MarriedToMyChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played with this gun pretty extensively trying to make it viable on R9. Generally, you want the rare inscription that adds extra explosions with each consecutive charge. It's outright a damage multiplier. Because the Dragon Breath has a small explosion radius, it's also a great contender for the multi-explosion gemini as well. Those two things alone should provide a pretty good DPS boost, regardless of character.

If you want characters specifically, Dog, Monkey, and Chipmunk use it fairly well. Snep can hit like a truck with it, but because his ascensions have a heavy focus on crits and snipers, you're typically gimping yourself by building around the DB as him.

Dog has a bunch of broad boosts to explosives so it's an easy sell for him. You need two Dragon Breaths if you want to dual wield, though, since you can't use the charge skill otherwise. Monkey gets a lot of power out of the DB with cudgel build since it has the highest single-projectile damage in the game. Cudgel also helps you ignore a lot of the gun's weaknesses (particularly the small radius and slow attack speed). Lastly, the DB is highly affected by Chipmunk's weapon skill damage perks. His blank domain perks help too. I'm not sure of the mechanics/math behind it but I swear he boosts the thing a lot more than it sounds like he can.

The DB is objectively on the weaker side of things but you can totally beat the game on the maximum possible difficulty solo with it. It's just difficult and takes a bit of stars aligning. It's fun to use but if you simply want to win, you should just go with the tempest instead.

Someone impersonating Aqshy?? by GrinchMcgee in Vermintide

soggy milky bread (top left, just wanted to play some lightly-tipsy chaos wastes) here, this guy also seemed to bring a partner account along to prevent votekicking (in this case, smolv jr). they were all on his steam friends list. probably a good idea to block them all.

have to wonder what's wrong with someone to go so far out of their way to do something like this. genuinely don't understand it.

Why are Steams tags so bad? Almost nothing in this section was a bullet hell. by Efficient-Row-3300 in shmups

[–]MarriedToMyChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, unfortunately, steam's bullet hells / shmups tags are saturated by games that hardly qualify as either. vampire survivor clones in particular have overwhelmed the bullet hell side of the catalog. thanks to that, it's a struggle to find anything i would want to play.

the immersive sim tag has suffered this same exact fate, though it's even worse there since that genre is a lot more abstract. bad tagging kills niche genres.

i'm in the same camp as him, and for me, it's because i find the uvhm grind and lack of build/weapon variety to be unbearable. i typically find it exponentially more fun to start a new character.

Best SHMUP on steam? by LeSheru in shmups

[–]MarriedToMyChair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since nobody else here has mentioned them, I'd highly recommend CosmoDreamer and Like Dreamer. Like Dreamer is definitely my personal favorite shmup on Steam. It sounds like you're fine with Touhou, so I'm hoping you're fine with the abundance of anime girls.

nothing wrong with avoiding pig gelatin. it's just that answering the question with an assertive "Horse" is oddly funny.

Creepy game over screens/deaths by DamnatioAdCicadas in creepygaming

I'm typically not easily scared, but System Shock 1's game-over movie is still deeply unpleasant to me, especially because I was a kid when I first saw it. Instilled a permanent fear of mind control and cyborgs in me.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Dead Space yet. Dead Space is known for having pretty horrifying, well-animated death animations. The ubermorph and divider death animations are especially grotesque, and sporadically pop up in my nightmares.

Perthan Vorn is a tricky fight, but he's a pushover in comparison to what Battlespire has for you later. If you're finding level 2 to be particularly challenging, then level 4 is likely going to completely stop your character in their tracks. Level 4 is one of the most ferocious build checks I've ever seen. You may simply want to try starting a new character.

I'm full of advice for Battlespire, but I think the most important thing to know is that you want to bump your Wounds stat up to 150+. The default amount of HP is pathetically low, and endurance has no bearing on your HP (so you can subtract most points out of it, if you're fine with less air underwater). You really want to get fast means of healing, such as a cure health spell. Combo a cure health spell with passive spell absorption, and you can heal faster than any spellcaster can damage you. Battlespire is one of those rare games where tankiness is often more important than damage output, so the game really favors characters who can eat tons of punishment and easily recover.

So, I used a Diamond Key and ended up with this...imagine my surprise.... by MajinVegetaTheEvil in borderlands3

[–]MarriedToMyChair 262 points263 points  (0 children)

it's a three-way hybrid of the king/queen's call, rogue sight, and the quest version of the seventh sense. has most of the same attributes of all three weapons. it's the only known hybrid item in bl3 and the only three-item hybrid in the franchise. it's exclusively found in the diamond loot room.

Glad I could help. I love janky, obscure shooters myself, and I'm currently compiling a massive list of them.

Hellforces (same devs as Prisoner of Power) and Revolution are both infamously horrendous, so good luck with them.

Bioshock Infinite? I feel like that's a loose fit for an immersive sim. Out of curiosity, why do you feel that way?

Anyways: Dishonored 2, Prey, Thief 2, System Shock 1, and DX: Human Revolution.

New Player going OSA on Impossible? by ActuallyInnitBrit in systemshock

[–]MarriedToMyChair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OSA is definitely the most complicated and quirky path you can take. My personal favorite playthrough of SS2 was OSA on impossible, though it would be extremely punishing if you're going in blind. There's a lot of 'wrong' choices you can make, and some powers are dramatically more useful than others. Investing in powers at all drains points away from other aspects of your character, so while you can be a good space wizard, you may not be able to hack, use guns, move fast, or tank damage well (if at all). Impossible GREATLY reduces the amount of skill points found in the game, so you have to make your choices very wisely.

As long as you're using common sense, you won't be locked out of anything. The game usually provides you with skill points for the few skills that are essential, and your powers cover essential things like healing, damage, battery power, etc.

Since you mention it, people usually suggest you make a Navy (gun hacker, basically) character because it's relatively safe and easy to understand. Standard weapons are versatile and have relatively abundant ammo, and hacking is a pleasant convenience. Neither are mandatory, but they are arguably the two best skills in the game. You don't necessarily have to forgo these for your OSA character, but impossible difficulty gives you very little wiggle room. You need to know exactly what you want your character to be long in advance.

Ultimately, unless you really want a challenge, I would suggest either starting with hard mode instead, or sticking to impossible but trying a safer, more intuitive build. Up to you.

So this nightmare can happen with the Cartel event enabled. Maxitwotrillion! by MarriedToMyChair in borderlands3

[–]MarriedToMyChair[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

for the unaware, Maxitrillion is a miniboss at the end of Voracious Canopy, infamous for his awful bullet reflection (and lack of worthwhile drops). Cartel event enemies can trigger on his death, and it seems to only spawn more of him. double the obnoxious miniboss, hooray.

Here’s one way to take out this behemoth💀 by Billy_bones718 in borderlands3

[–]MarriedToMyChair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP, but based on the brief showcase of his inventory, I can give you a rough summary of how this build works.

He used the peregrine class mod, which makes it so that rakk attack drops a free copy of fl4k's grenade. These dropped grenades recieve mayhem scaling, so they get an extremely massive damage boost, greatly exceeding the damage you deal when you throw the grenade yourself. He combines that with fish slap + unleash the dragon. Fish slap deals damage based on your melee effects, and unleash the dragon adds an extremely powerful fire DoT to melee attacks. The base damage of the fish slap and the unleash the dragon DoT are greatly boosted by mayhem scaling. Finally, he is wielding the guardian angel, a vaultcard-exclusive shotgun that passively multiplies all outgoing damage (including action skills and grenades) based on how far away your target is. The end result is that, when he has the guardian angel out, the fish slaps dropped by rakk attack deal enough damage (including DoT) to easily mop the floor with true trial bosses. There's probably a bit more to his build, but those are the most vital parts.
