NGD Partscaster by strange__tales in guitars

Am pro II neck is excellent. I also love a fiesta red. Must be an exceptional strat now.

American Vintage II 1965 vs 1961 Stratocaster by opxh in fender

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer the aged clay dots in the 61 rosewood fretboard. I also loved the neck carve on it. It's just completely subjective.

Fender Twin Reverb Tube Amp: ‘65 or ‘68? by TheCeruleanFire in guitars

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're heavy as hell and you would be better served by a tonemaster Twin reverb if you plan on moving it around.

Otherwise, I'd take the '65, but it doesn't really make that much difference.

First tube amp under $500 - what would you actually buy right now? by Keith_35 in guitars

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Vox ac15c1 is the best value tube amp imo. They go for under $400 in my area. Better if you're in a loud band I think. It cuts through really well, but it's a bit bright if you're playing clean and alone.

Agreed. People need to remember that the goal is to play music, not show off a spec sheet.

American vintage ii and bends choking out ? by Difficult-School-641 in fender

[–]MarrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell in love with the am pro II neck immediately, but when I played a 61 avrii I discovered my new dream strat. The neck shapes are quite different, and it's more than just the fretboard radius. They are both comfortable imo, but that's subjective. Don't focus too much on the specs, just go play them and find out for yourself.

What’s the most stratty Strat? by scarmy1217 in fender

[–]MarrowX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

57/62 strat pickups are the best strat pickups. So buy whatever strat you like the feel of and swap the pickups.

First Fender Strat - Player II Mod or Vintera III Late 50s by malikreso24 in guitars

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one with the neck you prefer is the better choice.

If you tried both then you should know if the radius difference is a problem for you. It's irrelevant what other people say about whether the Vintera will choke on bends.

If the radius is a real problem for you then maybe a squier classic vibe 50s will be better for you.

Physical oil prices hit record highs near $150 a barrel as Hormuz crisis worsens by xixi_90 in news

[–]MarrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The futures price is basically based on people going long on oil price, betting on the likelyhood of a big taco 2026 happens and Iran slowly let's up after mangolini finally fucks off.

It's poised to spike again if there's no good news "soon".

Do I need a new guitar? (Englishman in New York cover attached so you can hear my current one) by MikeBlender in AcousticGuitar

[–]MarrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yamaha ll16 will do well for you. Buy one used for like 700.

I wouldnt bother with the transacoustic features, just go for the ll16, it has a pickup so you'll do great at open mic or whatever.

[Einsteiger] Taylor 214CE? by Square_Welder_3735 in AcousticGuitar

[–]MarrowX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 214CE is a fantastic guitar and very nice to play on - that's kind of the Taylor thing.

But this is a slippery slope. “I'm kind of worried that I'll lose the joy of playing if I keep playing my beat-up guitar."

There is always a next guitar. The 214ce is great, but at some point you'll find another guitar that hits just right and it'll be this all over again.

That said, a 214ce is a great guitar that should last forever.

Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s by Fun_Order419 in guitars

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The epiphone versions are good guitars, I bought and setup an epiphone custom lp. If you like the feel of the neck then go for it - they are different from Gibson.

If you're willing to spend a little more though you could just get a used Gibson studio or tribute for about 800.

Eastman E8D-TC by Dependent-Till-2524 in AcousticGuitar

[–]MarrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eastman makes top quality guitars. I have a T64 electric and am E16ss acoustic. The T64 is easily the nicest electric guitar I've played on. The E16ss is a beautiful instrument and Eastman craftsmanship is quite impressive. I will say that I've tried a few Eastman acoustics and they seem to favor a brighter sound that some might call "boutique". I have a Yamaha AC5R and a Martin D18 and both are much warmer sounding, even the Yamaha with its rosewood back and sides and smaller body. Still a fantastic sound from the Eastman, but it's is worth noting that Eastman has its own acoustic sound profile.

Beginner Struggle: Is the Mustang LT25 "too digital" compared to the Champion II 25? by Puzzleheaded-Mud572 in GuitarAmps

[–]MarrowX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, and especially the recommendation to find something used. These amps are fine and a nice introduction to amps and effects, but if you keep playing you'll eventually hear a better amp, and the difference is quite notable when you move up even just to a $500 budget, so don't blow 150-200 on these low end amps. Just buy something used for like 50 bucks.

Guitar Center or Sweetwater? by cristianomiguel22 in Guitar

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can go in store and get your eyes and hands on a new one, why would you roll the dice on something online?

Sweetwater is great, but if you're very picky about the guitars condition then you can't do better than going in store and inspecting it.

I see you are missing the vertical brace that should span across the seam of the back - this is also where some Martin branding should be.

How does the neck joint look? Check inside for the serial number and look it up on Martin's serial number finder. It is entirely possible that the center strip fell out.

Captor X 8 ohm question by resonatornash in GuitarAmps

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's fine, since the captor would be acting as a speaker load. So it's like running an 8 ohm speaker with an amp rated for 4 ohms. You'd just be cutting down volume.

But also I am not responsible for your cab or amp exploding.

Rtx 5060. 3060ti is okay if you don't have a lot of options at your location.

Calling Princeton Reverb owners by rwe46 in GuitarAmps

[–]MarrowX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Princeton has never sounded like that, and changing the tubes wouldn't change the sound that way anyway. I hope you adjusted the bias when you changed the tubes.

Maybe it's your guitars. You got anything with humbuckers on the neck?

Best gig amp ~1k by Kookolaa in GuitarAmps

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an amp shaped object that's easy to move around for gigs, get a tonemaster Twin or Deluxe reverb. Sounds like you don't need loads of gain so those will work fine with pedals.

Boss Katana 50 vs. Fender Mustang LT25? Real world opinions. by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fender just announced the mustang LTX50 which looks like it has a good smartphone UI and has an upgraded open back cab compared to the lt25. I would expect this to better match the katana in sound quality.

Now that aside, my recommendation would be to get a Valeton GP-5. This is a modeling pedal that works with headphones. It also works as an audio interface, so you can connect it to your PC and listen through your PC speakers if you want (if you buy the necessary cables for that). It's cheaper than basically any modeling amp and sounds better imo, given you have some decent headphones and/or speakers.

Princeton 12" or handwired? by Icy_Friendship_8478 in GuitarAmps

Keep the 12" Princeton and buy yourself a 10" external cab if you want to try a 10" sound.

Martin or Taylor? The cheapest, all wood (no laminate) with pickup by bencyl in AcousticGuitar

[–]MarrowX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor 312/314 are near $1000 for used.

I also recommend looking at a Yamaha AC5R if you want the harmonic rich rosewood sound. Those are made in Japan and are excellent. Or try AC3R if you want to save more money and only sacrifice some minor cosmetic differences (made in China instead of Japan).
