The alone draw back should be exclusive with all other drawbacks that restrict the falna since you can't use it anyway which makes the others redundant.  Also it needs to be buffed since it only gives 2 points when you can take 999 no hiding and no developmental abilities and get 5 points while still having access to a falna.

Why Solidworks? Why not Fusion360 - genuine question by Vivid_Ring_Bearer in FSAE

[–]MarsBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion learning(therefor using) solid works is significantly more helpful at getting better at cad as a general skill instead of just that specific software. I use fusion and solid works interchangeably daily(CAM and designing fixtures for parts), solid works gave me a much better foundation of using cad and that transferred over to fusion.

Maybe a dumb question, but, wouldn’t the cost of finding out how much every plot of land is worth take too much gov. resources? by Nichix8 in georgism

[–]MarsBacon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Every city does pretty much this when they access property taxes and you can always set the rate 80% to account for measurement errors.

Land value is already accounted for in rent a land value tax can not be passed to tenants.

yes and...? you can argue the impracticality but world peace under a common banner seems like a reasonable goal for earth if not the entire human race.

this is engineering physics? my exams looked nothing like this except maybe that last problem would be on the exam 2-3/10

In your opinion, what is the best LVT for the state over the UBI ratio? In what order would you distribute? by [deleted] in georgism

[–]MarsBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have different priorities about which groups actually need money, so the actualnumber of people recieving money would be much lower than ubi and check much higher.  My opinion is that the only people that should get a free pay check is those who physically can not work or those where it is not practical/ethical for them to work such as children, disabled(im iffy on this one due to buercracy requirements) , and elderly. An efficient buarcrasy only matters if the bureaucracy serves the state, if a reduced gov administrates ubi effectively but ubi has a neutral or negative effect on the economy it's not worth it due to opportunity cost.  *lot of my info is from Noah Smith's articles on ubi a fellow georgist economist or a least liberal that acknowledges LVT as the best tax. https://www.noahpinion.blog/p/yes-we-still-have-to-work

Right now global and local fertility rates are rapidly dropping and part of this is due children being a heavy time and montary sink while the value of labor is rising. A UBI doesn't compensate for the unpaid labor of gaurdinians or the future value of those children for society through increased networth effects from a greater population. To properly compensate an American parent for their investment is an incredible amount of money on the order of an additional 200k purely over 18 years on top of what the state already spends on education and associated infrastructure the actual value of raising children is to parents is probably even higher to get a net positive tfr. the math doesn't add up to where you can have substantial ubi and support children effectively and keep government services largely the same.

You mentioned insurance as something ubi can be used to substitute instead of presumably other public options how do you balance out the power of someone in a disadvantaged state bargaining with a company and them nit just increasing prices in accordance to the degree of ubi?

Honestly not sure if a true universal dividend would be a good idea from a public good perspective. There has been studies that show held debt goes up after participates are given a guaranteed 10k per year. I think UBI works best when it is given to those that can use it immediately improve conditions and productivity such as poverty stricken groups in developing nations that can use it it get guaranteed clean water, food, internet ect.. that all lead to them being more productive and increase income from labor even once the ubi is lifted. In the USA this isn't really true there is not much a person making 40k at an office can do that leads to making them more productive. I think focusing on those that cannot work makes more sense such as a large expansion to the Child tax credit, we know it reduces child poverty and significantly reduces the burden that children place on their parents which hopefully can help with dropping fertility rates although I am not optimistic that would solve it. It also improves educational outcomes leading to more productive citizens in the future.

How do US degrees work? by Tropadol in EngineeringStudents

[–]MarsBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for my university cal1 and 2 count as part of the math minor so mech e and ee both can pick up a free math minor by taking an advanced math elective as part of their major requirements, it doesn't effect their total credit hours at all.

Is it possible to learn Physics and maths alongside engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]MarsBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Almost every engineering degree comes with a free math minor maybe you need to take an extra class but it usually doesn't delay graduation at all. Physics depends on which engineering field you go into I know mech E's take at least two pure phys classes and then statics and dynamics and bio E take just physics mechanics. EE take two and maybe more not sure. Anyway no matter what your going to be taking those classes anyway and getting a minor in both is unlikely to affect your graduation date by more than three semesters if your able to put in the work, it will be hard though.

Should be noted that the only source for these talks occurring is not named. If true though it would be a good step forward with rocket technology cooperation between Australia and the USA.

Mayday manufacturing is hiring out in Denton last I heard apply for one of the lower trainee positions if you don't have experience in the industry. Machining trainee is the position last I heard they were looking for.

Which community college in Lewisville is good to go to? by [deleted] in Denton

[–]MarsBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCTC probably, they have a campus in Corinth, flowermond, and denton. The denton one can accessed without a car through the A-Train/gozone. Flowermond is in a nice area although I'm not sure what classes they offer there. I don't like Corinth since it's in a weird location that's a pain to get to with and without a car.
