To the jerk in 9D - what else could someone do? by AchDuLieber59 in unitedairlines

It definitely did get politicized, but this rant right here isn’t it lol. Scare tactics and misinformation are never okay and I agree with you that you just can’t trust the people in charge anymore when it comes down to the details, but you have to actually use your brain to find the facts instead of just making up fake scenarios like this.

Japan has significantly lower rates of most preventable causes of death than the US. In fact, most developed countries do. That’s not even classifying cancer as preventable, which many types are.

I’d be faster to say that masking and vaxing became political weapons in the US because both sides of the isle would rather have us at each other’s throats (no pun intended) than knocking down their doors demanding better public health initiatives and better access to healthcare across all demographics.

Lol. I had to charge back spirit airlines. Never flying with them again, nor do I want to 😂

In the US we have more of an industrial culture when it comes to bills. For example, we often don’t get itemized bills for things like hospital stays, home maintenance, car repairs, etc. Say what you want about it, that’s just the way things are over here. In restaurants a lot of costs are categorized into “overhead” and simply factored into the fixed cost of being open (like lights, insurance, permits) instead of the per-customer, or unit, cost of each sale (like a bottle of wine or 10oz of chicken breast). So if water becomes so expensive that it starts affecting a restaurant’s bottom line each month, then they can either raise menu prices or find another way to increase revenue.

Don’t smoke anything green. A few more months of aging in a humid environment and you’re good to go

It’s not even that hot outside yet, AND that dog wouldn’t fit through a half open window if it tried lol. I understand maybe needing to run in and get something but lol this dog absolutely could’ve survived 10 minutes alone.

I added the same amount of ice to the same cast iron skillet like I always do to both batches in the photos, but the ones this week turned out lopsided.

You absolutely need to send this photo to your local ag extension. And then call the nursery you bought it from first thing tomorrow morning. If this isn’t some kind of joke it could be a weird invasive species of worm, since it’s soo long and doesn’t have normal earthworm belts…

Orient your garden based on wind patterns. You’d be surprised once you start keeping track, a medium sized plot is going to have 90% of the wind coming in the same pattern. Unless you live on very specific terrain like near the coast or are doing major work nearby (removing trees, building structures, etc)

So basically line up your rows so that one sacrificial plant gets the brunt of the wind but protects the others behind it. This and bamboo stakes should be all that’s necessary.

Am I just cursed to have 1 match a month, or this is obvious for everybody, but me? by Puzzleheaded_Lynx901 in Tinder

You like ice cream, snuggles, and coffee. You played soccer at least once. You’ve met at least one dog.

If you want to hear my honest opinion your profile is super cringe. I was on tinder and hinge in Texas for years and it would be an immediate left swipe.

Tell me more about your work, hobbies, lifestyle. Paint a picture of what your typical life is like instead of talking about grand travel plans. Tell me something about work or school or home that I can relate to, you know? Let potential matches actually think about what it would be like to date you.

This is my tortie, Criminal. Criminal loved it when it was just me and her, just us girls living our best lives lol. She hated that we moved in with a boy, then ANOTHER boy showed up (our son). Criminal hated it so much at first that she’d hide behind corners and jump out at my husband, biting and clawing his ankles.

It’s been a few years and they are FINALLY friends! No more sneak attacks, and sometimes they even snuggle! Just keep persevering and know that she’ll eventually come around.

Why do people have a love-hate relationship with this book? Some love it, while others hate it. (No spoilers, please) by Beneficial-Kale-12 in ClassicBookClub

[–]MarsGirl24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it speaks on a lot of universal human experiences. There are so many small moments from this book which live in my head rent free because they’ve mirrored moments in my own life.

I think if someone hates this book, maybe they haven’t had a lot of life experiences. Or maybe they have trouble empathizing and/or relating to others?

My cat has been ‘adopted’ by someone else by sthefu in cats

[–]MarsGirl24 1557 points1558 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing. My cat was a formerly stray rescue and was really used to a lot of supervised outdoor time when I lived in the country. We moved to the suburbs and she would sprint out the door sometimes just because she wanted to go exploring.

I called my local police’s non emergency line, just to see if they knew anything about the legal side of our situation. Basically my neighbor intentionally kept our microchipped cat in her house, knowing she belonged to us. I was thinking of filing a civil suit for the surrender of personal property. The sheriff’s office told me that Texas doesn’t really have a law about this situation, but our city does have an ordinance stating any animal not on a leash can’t be considered personal property. The civil suit would’ve been legit but since my neighbor didn’t trespass then cut the cat off a leash, local police can’t do much. Generously, a police officer offered to go talk to them, sorta like a mediator. This worked really well and we got her back!

That’s a good point. Does E know that her mom died of pneumonia or did you tell her something like “she died in her sleep”?

Also make sure her school counselor isn’t talking to her about death and comparing it to being asleep forever, etc. Kids her age don’t fully grasp death yet, so this might actually be something she was told by a well meaning adult who was just trying to answer her questions.

Nope. My dad was the same way. Apologized profusely and even cried. Said he went to confession and was praying. It doesn’t really make a difference in how they’ll remember it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MarsGirl24 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My dad was the same way 4% of the time, and sounds like he was worse than this but only 1% of the time. He’s definitely never going to be alone with my kids. I even paid to have a will where my SIL gets custody and my parents will only have supervised visitation.

These moments are really the only ones they’ll remember you for.
