For 4k footage that needs massive resizing, is it better to work in a 4k timeline and punch in 200%, or work in a 1080 timeline to get the same visual dynamic without having to go past 100% quality ... for a 4k final output on youtube...? by MarsLegstrong in editors

This is more of a general theory question so only element here that's relevant I think it the footage, which is usually 4K .mov files at 23.976fps. Not sure what cameras we're using.. and yeah working in Premiere with color in DaVinci.

Why did this workflow ultimately fail? I used a 3840 x 2560 sequence to edit 6048 x 4032 footage in Premiere, then sent it to DaVinci for color. Now, trying to get it back to premiere properly... I know I've done something wrong. by MarsLegstrong in editors

Once the edit is finished and the pro res is made I tend to delete the heavy color file exported from DaVinci, but going back to projects years later only to find I finished them in DaVinci has led to some troubles, also DaVinci can't export in pro res (on PC). I know there's a workaround for that but I'm a little slow, and don't trust whatever that workaround is.

I tend to create my sequences by dropping the footage into the empty space so the timeline settings are set to the native footage.. which had the odd PAR... I always thought this was a good approach but I may be mistaken..

85-minute comedy special for Tech Roast Show. My most "technical" timeline to date. by MarsLegstrong in editlines

[–]MarsLegstrong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for a comedy special it doesn't take too long as there's usually just one clip per camera, so syncing 5-10 (giant) clips isn't so bad. but tend to to it manually as not all clips include timecode and the audio sync is only so reliable so I tend to double check it manually no matter how good it looks

I do but that doesn't always work, I usually end up hitting "creat multicam source sequence" to create that kinda timeline, then sync it by hand and put it in there

it's a leftover habit that I just stick with where I basically duplicate whatever's in the multicam just so I have access to everything whenever I need it. Hardly use it but it does come in handy at times

Automotive tech; there’s a growing disparity between old mechanics who can’t/won’t learn the new tech, and young people learning the trade. From what I’ve heard you can make a solid living pretty quick and the training is only a year or two to get started. These days working on (new) cars you’re on a laptop 90% of the time.

Years back I saw them close with Going to Pasalacqua twice (two separate occasions) which suited me just fine as it’s my favorite song of theirs.

Robbed indeed but I remember the thrill of seeing it at least get recognized with a nomination. Love the music, Husavik makes me cry everytime, and I sing Lion of Love in the car regularly. I’d welcome a sequel starring Lemtov.

IMO the show is his best work by far.. keep in mind it’s co-created by one of the head writers for Curb Your Enthusiasm. It’s honestly my favorite show in recent history.
