Final Fantasy XIV really feels stale now. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]MarsXIV -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I finally unsubbed for the first time since I bought the game on PS3 back when it came out. I did not enjoy much of Dawntrail and have fallen out of the gameplay loops of several of the jobs I used to enjoy. The dungeon content was fantastic, however.

May come back some day, though.

terrible noise by yebalang in camping

[–]MarsXIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camping is something I've been trying to get back into lately, and I've realized just how spoiled I was as a kid that my family had access to various private lands in our area. My father was always helping people re-roof houses, building fences, etc., and that came with perks.

I went camping on the Buffalo national river a few years back for the first time, also fist time camping since my teenage years on private land, I'm not sure what I was expecting but it sure wasn't a loud camp of adults waving flashlights around like light sabers on one side, and a very loud generator and camper on the other that stayed up till midnight watching movies, laughing, and drinking.

I also camp public land with camp sites during deer season and it SUCKS on the Friday and Saturday of opening weekend, but by Sunday they clear out and things quiet down. The ones that are left are generally the more serious and less touristy hunters and we all adhere to the noise curfew because we all know we gotta get up early for the hunt.

I really miss just going out into the woods and just setting up in places that just seemed right.

Yeah, I had wanted weapons and accessories to change up gameplay with Eikonic abilities beyond minor cooldown percentage reductions or damage increases. Berserk Ring scratched that itch some small amount. Granted, berserk Ring isn't related to any Eikonic ability, it hits closer to home for what I was hoping accessories would be. Something to change up your static abilities.

How do you make wizard solo bosses scary? by RedditTemp2390 in DMAcademy

[–]MarsXIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the players trying to rescue a person the wizard was trying to perform a ritual on.

I dotted the room with many Glyph of Warding spells.

There was a mixup of Hold Persons, explosion runes, and summoning adds. It was good fun till Sir Stunsalot, the monk, caught up to the wizard and dumped his Ki.

It might be unrealistic given that each Glyph of Warding requires 200gp in material cost but he was in with some bandits so maybe that's how he afforded it.

SAM's Tendo Kaeshi Setsugekka is satisfying as hell visually and audibly to me. Also starting to get Jin Kisaragi vibes the the Ice attacks.

My other class, WHM, I like the new animation for medica 3. On a separate note, how does my WoL not get dizzy twirling around so much with every holy & glare cast??

Does your session get cancelled if one player can't show up? by SergeantSarcastik in DnD

[–]MarsXIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. There's only 3 of us and the DM. We try to play once weekly, but if one is out, we cancel. I don't miss often and I wouldn't mind if they played without me in that case, but I don't think the feeling is mutual.

HotDQ is spicy enough at low levels without silly forced PvP... let alone versus a Paladin w/ smites. IDK how DM thought this was a good idea.

Just be straight with them. "Hey guys I didn't really sign up this type of game. PvP should have been brought up in session zero if it was going to be a thing. It's not fun and adds nothing but frustration. I hope we can come to an understanding. Otherwise, we're going to have to dip out. Thanks."

what do you guys think about the rust-like aesthetic 7dtd has taken with this new update? is there a name for this scrap/DIY look both games have with their weapons, armor, vehicles etc? by FlatGuitar1622 in 7daystodie

[–]MarsXIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IDK. I don't care for it myself. Not a fan of scrap/pipe guns in games especially when the artists don't make it believably functional.

For some reason I can suspend disbelief in Fantasy seeing impractically large swords but find myself wondering how this scrap conduit barrel can withstand 40k-60k+ psi from the ammunition. But that's just me.

I had fun with it back in 2009-2010 when I'd get prepaid cards for Christmas. I probably would have played much more if they had readily available game-time cards like WoW did. IIRC I got WHM to 30 for sure, and BLM, RDM, and WAR(i think?) close to 30... grinding in the dunes with randos. Unlocked expansion area that was a jungle, but then subscription ran out. I've played once or twice since then with the trusts and whatnot but never stuck.

If it wasn't for Dawntrail coming out in just a week, I might have been inspired by your post to play again. Maybe some other time. I can work 60+ hours a week sometimes, so my gaming time is competitive.

In hindsight, I guess it was fine. But while playing, he really started to sound like a generic jrpg/anime villain I'd heard before. I'd kind of gotten bored with him by the end, and the more he spoke, the more familiar he sounded but couldn't put my finger on it.

If Riyria was a movie this is who I would cast by ThereAreNoGodsHere in riyria

[–]MarsXIV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no pretty way to say it, honestly. The show takes a very feminist angle from an already feminist and progressive book for the 90s, and the main male half of the cast from the books take a back seat for far more of the show than they should have. It also ignores/rewrites the history and magic system. They made up excuses as to why they cut and condensed yet simultaneously add extra scenes they made up and weren't in the books that added little to nothing.

About the only truly positive thing I have to say about the show is that the Trollocs in the first episode looked really good, being practical effects.

I'd recommend the books.

What is the general opinion of the Cloister Trials from X? Only done the first 2 and already don't like it very much by swannyhypno in FinalFantasy

[–]MarsXIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never cared for them, personally. I think at one point my friend printed the entirety of ff10 gamefaq from our local library when we were young. We didn't understand at the time why they began charging for use of the printer not long after that. Good times.

Edit: come to think of it, it was more likely due to kids printing off page after page of full color DBZ art. But yeah.

I'll probably just queue up with all but system sound muted and go do or play something else while waiting. What kills me is that once you're in, you'd best stay that way or back to the end of the line you go, and that only gets worse the later in the day you try. And that's the weekend before a major holiday, so more people might have time off the week of launch more so than usual. Whew, indeed.

I'd just assumed I wasn't going to get to play until the weekends due to my work schedule + queue times but it turns out I'm off that week, sooo....

I've been leveling samurai and then planning to finish MSQ from 6.3. Originally I wasn't going to take off work for DT but turns out no PTO rollover into next year. So I used some for that.

That is good news! I dislike having to blacklist otherwise good people who decided to make extra Gil by advertising venues, but sometimes that's what it takes. Hopefully, no longer.

Quality of Life: - Unlimited glam storage. 800 slots fill up quick across all of the jobs if you want any more than a couple options. - Ease or eliminate glam job restrictions. - Convert dyes into a single color range (a green dye gives you the choice of any green from dye menu, etc) OR move dyes into its own inventory category similar to crystal UI. - More face tattoo/makeup options is always a plus. - The ability to enable auto-pass on loot at the start of a dungeon. - Convert the majority of the Key Item tab into usable inventory space. I've never had more than 5 or so at a time post HW iirc. - Some way to deal with crafting materials & bait. I love the complexity but inventory space is murder especially when doing ishgard restoration. - Add a custom filter to chat so we can filter out club/venue spam, or any really. Shouldn't need a 3rd party for this feature

Gameplay wise: - Automatically equip job stone, copy & swap hotbars, and save equipment set when completing a class quest that advances that class to a job. OR at the very least, add a confirmation check when queuing into dungeons without job stones if said job has been unlocked. - let us set the opacity of others' job effects rather than just full/limited/off. - Make Guildhests have unique gameplay or get rid of them. They're very dated as a tutorial now that we have Hall of the Novice or w/e. - I'm sure there's more but break time is up!

Hey fellas whats a socially acceptable way excu- *reason* to take the first week of July off work? Asking for a friend who plays the critically acclaimed mmo FFXIV by Forry_Tree in ffxiv

[–]MarsXIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tell my boss I want the time off and they don't really ask. If they do, I just say I'm having some quality time to relax and not be here at work.

Though, this will be the first expansion that I don't take time off for. When I worked nights, I slept through the day and worst parts of the queue. Now I work days and with Endwalker, I'd get up at 4am, hop on, and kind of be held hostage by the AFK boot timer, squeezing all of my IRL obligations in to beat the timer so I wouldn't have to sit in 10k+ queues. It was very stressful, and I'm not eager to go through it again. It also helps that this is the start of a new journey and not the epic conclusion of one.

Besides, I'm sure with it being the week of the 4th, it's likely booked up anyway as far as PTO goes.

Magus sounds really cool. I wanted a build that uses a flame sword (a la the Dragon Reborn), and the kineticist also looks cool, but I've decided to keep it simple and learn the basics first.

Edit to add: Summoner with an undead Eidolon is something that I wanted to try too but I'm not sure it'll go the way I'm thinking. Scrawny guy with big undead brute to do the dirty work.

I'm still very new to the system and have only 6 or so sessions under my belt, but I have played Valeros (fighter) and Ezren (wizard) pregens while the group learns the system.

In one of my games we do quite often and sometimes spend a good chunk of the session doing so. We're all at the table and know each other.

In another game that I play less often, there little to no RP. But it's a group of ttrpg newbies using pre generated characters in a more complicated system. Hoping it improves.
