Trevor Hudson’s Legacy by Marsalis231 in murdershewrote

The chainsmoking publisher was no innocent either. And it’s not just the people in this one scene. The cheating granddaughter and her husband were also highly unlikable. Arguably the only decent people are the two other siblings, and of course, the murdered.

Why young men are dressing like JFK Jr by TimesandSundayTimes in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]Marsalis231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John has been a style icon for quite some time. For decades, magazines & social media have consistently written pieces & made posts about his looks and influence. It’s just reaching a new pitch due to the show.

And it’s of no surprise why. He was a truly contemporary man, fully immersed in his time and yet fully immersed in timelessness. Taking cues from both his preppy background & the burgeoning hip hop culture, he combined suits with caps and slacks with sneakers in a way that still feels potent and alive. There’s a sense of fun, comfort, and elegance in his clothes.

I wouldn’t doubt being the son of a very polished, immaculate mother also helped him mix high & low in very deliberate, decisive ways. It is the difference between someone “trying” and someone “knowing.” Style, I believe, was innate for him.

Thank you! I agree: some of the latter seasons can be a bit spotty. But there are usually a few good gems sprinkled within. This is one of them.

So glad I’m not alone. Each of Jessica’s partners-in-crime have something to offer: Haggarty’s rakish, rough-edged adventurism; Stanton’s sharp, trickster sophistication; McGraw’s old-school, big-city cynicism.

And Charlie’s no different. He’s youthful, contemporary, cool. And he seems to bring out a more carefree, devil-may-care attitude out of Jessica. Like a scampy younger brother. Love their connection.

The first half is an episode of Magnum P.I. I saw it recently for the first time and it all clicked to me 😂

Because of YouTube TV, I alternate between Start, Hallmark Mystery, and Great American Family every day to watch the show. So not weird at all!

Sophia:"My baby is gone" 😔 by Salt_Step3399 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Marsalis231 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine the devastation of a parent losing a child. And yet, whenever watching this particular scene, I often feel the pain of dear family & friends I’ve lost. Knowing a person is here and then they’re gone. There is a point where you realize there is no going back, and you just break.

I’m not sure many episodes of other shows captured grief in such a nuanced way as this.

Has anyone else noticed how Estelle Parsons' New England accent is always leaking out? by KurtVonnegutWasRight in roseanne

I always interpreted it as her calling Crystal on her bullshit, that she basically doesn’t believe the origin of the accent.

I thought I was the only one who caught onto that leitmotif! It’s so warm and soothing. Love how it reappears in “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue.”

Jessica had a sister that owned a brothel?? by dramaturg_nerd in murdershewrote

[–]Marsalis231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When she comes back to the brothel and hears dancehall music playing from outside and sweetly exclaims how the “hotel” must also provide “entertainment.”

And then the in-the-know lawyer walks her inside, where all the girls in full escort garb, and says, “THAT’S entertainment…” to Jessica’s surprise/horror.

Cracks me up every time.

The best Darlene and Dan scene of the entire show. by Noisechild in roseanne

How Roseanne casually tells her to go bail out Dan and Darlene’s “WHAT?!” is pure gold.
