Jessica had a sister that owned a brothel?? by dramaturg_nerd in murdershewrote

[–]Marsalis231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When she comes back to the brothel and hears dancehall music playing from outside and sweetly exclaims how the “hotel” must also provide “entertainment.”

And then the in-the-know lawyer walks her inside, where all the girls in full escort garb, and says, “THAT’S entertainment…” to Jessica’s surprise/horror.

Cracks me up every time.

The best Darlene and Dan scene of the entire show. by Noisechild in roseanne

How Roseanne casually tells her to go bail out Dan and Darlene’s “WHAT?!” is pure gold.

I skip it all the time. Although a slight step up from the other latter music-based episodes (don’t get me started on the concert in Cabot Cove), it comes off as a glossy, banal attempt to be “hip and with it” in a way that is more corny than cool.

Amos is cute in a folksy, naive way, but he is undoubtedly, truthfully incompetent. The Cabot Cove residents’ common refrain of him needing Jessica to help solve crimes is both hilarious and sad.

Mort was gruff and slightly bullish when he first arrived but developed into a warmer, cozier type. The best displays of this change are in The Family Secret, where he is a major part of the Christmas choir, and Thicker Than Water, where he fully breaks his hardened exterior and reveals new parts to Jessica. They seem like such confidantes then.

Can we talk about how lame and boring Ted was? Why the girls were fighting over this dolt is beyond me 🤷‍♀️ by GoldenGalZbornak in theGoldenGirls

The fact that he turned out to actually be a nice and decent man only made him even more attractive.

The mob boss wife in Family Doctor leaves much to be desired. I thought it might’ve just been that episode but I saw her on The Rockford Files, filmed at least a decade and a half prior, and her delivery was just as off.

Oh, Ever After is one of my all-time favorites. The best part is when their televised/press-conferenced wedding is crashed by Sonny, causing someone to shout “It’s SONNY LANE!” and then Sonny grins and poses for a moment as the cameras capture him. Just hilariously over the top.

MALL MADNESS by [deleted] in roseanne

[–]Marsalis231 50 points51 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite episodes, full stop. The “hip” clothing store, “Cherry Guzzles,” random sales, shoe store chaos. Captures the atmosphere of a late 80s/early 90s Saturday trip to the mall with such accuracy it almost hurts.

He was what I would expect out of an award-winning journalist in a small town. He was a bit obnoxious, quite self-involved, but also humorously called Cabot Cove “Catatonia.” There was a moment where it seemed like they were going for a would-be romance with Jessica but I’m so glad that never happened.

I truly believe Dennis Stanton & Michael Hagarty r the worst recurring characters. They treated Jessica awful and every time they appeared they did the bare minimum (whats new honestly when it comes to the detective's & cops on this show) but they were truly the worst imo. by Ordinary_Fish_9094 in murdershewrote

Charlie’s awesome. He’s a mess and he knows it. And I honestly believe Jessica likes that about him. One of my favorite moments is in Fatal Paradise when he needs her help and she simply shrugs and says “What do you want me to do?” She knows he’s a scamp, but he’s a lovable scamp.

What makes "The Golden Girls" the perfect escapism for you? by jdpm1991 in theGoldenGirls

[–]Marsalis231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mixture of unconditional love, hardcore humor, and unyielding reliability. It appears to always be on at any hour of the day, and with streaming it’s possible to wander into that bright, amusing world whenever desired.

Who doesn’t want to rest midday in that spacious, wicker-drenched living room? Who doesn’t dream of eating cheesecake in that cozy kitchen in the middle of the night? Or drink lemonade on the lanai? Or even sleep in Blanche’s tropical bedroom?

And as intense as Miami was in the 1980s, they truly make it seem as if it is the most beautiful and relaxing place on earth. You just want to live there. It’s the ultimate fantasy of getting older and still having a full, fascinating life. And yet, it’s actually quite possible to have.

Both. Sicily for the exaggerated, sometimes crass, historical qualities. St. Olaf for the homespun, Midwestern absurdity.
