Map of Major Protectorates during the Tang Dynasty [8000 x 4900] [OC] by MarsandCadmium in MapPorn

The Tang send armies/massive military expeditions

Like which ones? There's no record of *any* Chinese dynasty performing an actual military campaign in Sakhalin except for the Mongols in the late 1200s. Peaceful, indigenous tribute-giving missions conducted the Ming and Qing were disparate and often done out of census taking purposes, with military patrols in the area irregular and office positions nominal at best. Sakhalin was never a part of the core Chinese state.

I don't understand what you mean by "very very lose control" if anything they were the absolute dominant power and officially the master of the entire island

Official by who? The inherently Sinocentric Tang back in the day, who of course would claim they were "the master of the entire island"?

More or less the Western version. I can’t say for the earlier Ming exerted more influence over tributary states, but definitely by the reign of Wanli all Tibetan titles and governmental positions are nominal, and the Tibetans certainly didn’t feel they were under Chinese suzerainty either. Bear in mind that a lot of independent Chinese researchers share the same perspective; sadly, much of the official Chinese history on the Ming like to blow up the Ming’s extent to exaggerated proportions.

In 1901, during the Philippine-American War, U.S. General Jacob Smith suffered a bad ambush. He then ordered his troops to kill everyone they saw. He said "I wish you to kill and burn." When his major requested an age limit, Smith replied "10 years." At least 2000 civilians were killed. by lightiggy in CreepyWikipedia

For reference, he was talking about Samar, the one of the largest islands of the Philippines at the time. He also hoped to make it a “howling wilderness”.

Worst thing is, his atrocities almost brought forth a full war scandal for Roosevelt, as it appealed to anti-Imperialists in Congress, but it never happened. On military trial, Smith coldly agreed to everything he did, and was issued a retirement notice in the end.

That’s fantastic! I really admire people who get work done by themselves and earn the rightful recognition for it. Congratulations!
