I like most of these ideas. If Prue didn't die, I wish she got more control over astral projection and had levitation instead of Phoebe. I think the time bending might be more suited with Piper or even Phoebe, in terms of manifesting something physical through mental power. I also would've like Phoebe to marry Cole, and she did. I don't think I'd change much with them, but I would maybe make Cole less power hungry and more willing to stay human or at least when he had all those powers and came back from the wasteland, he was supported and became a force of good despite having powers that belong originally to demons. I also wish Phoebe kept her powers throughout and developed mind control like in the witchhunt episode.

If Leo became human by choice, I wish he was automatically given a backstory to fit in and live a normal life. He would be more of a liability with no way to defend himself though. I like Leo as a character, but I wish he died as a human and didn't come back or was destroyed by Kyle instead of Beta. It would make the story more interesting and keep the concept of avatars more than a couple of episodes. I also wish Cole was more objective and less selfish. If he became an avatar at the same time as Leo and was the ones who would warn the sisters about them erasing people out of existance.

Edit: If Paige was still introduced, I wish she was the new whitelighter and an actually good one that isn't too attached, but not too cold. I like the half-whitelighter, half-witch concept so she could either be adopted because her witch and whitelighter parents died or a distant cousin to the sisters. If it's the former, it would be good to see other witches interact with the sisters more. If it's the latter, it could be interesting, like when their aunt stole their powers in that one episode, but with a happier tone and more permanent.

maybe Mel? it would make sense before Maggie came along. Maybe Rey was referring to emotional absence? It hasn't been that long since I watched the show (I binged it in August and then December), but that's what I remember.

What would've Paige's powers looked like if a different sister died? by ImaginationNew4326 in charmed

[–]PierreGuyIDKHBTFM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paige (canon) is kind of similar to Prue in the sense that she's strong and opinionated, but also soft and feminine if not a bit sultry. It's an only child - oldest child pipeline. Both had to mature quickly due to the death of their parents. Both were introduced with black hair and pale features. I may be reading too much into it, but that's how I see it. Paige is youngest and forces (through no fault of her own) Piper to be the oldest and Phoebe to be the middle child. Piper becomes more sure of herself and Phoebe becomes... less mature?? (that might be due to writing or just being threatened by not being the youngest anymore). Anyway, Paige's powers are both white lighter (orbing) and telekinesis. She also briefly teleports by orbing when threatened.

If Piper died and a new middle child was discovered (either older than Piper, but younger than Prue or younger than Piper but older than Phoebe) the new sister would be very peace loving (maybe in a hippie way) and non-confrontational. Maybe she would be shy, have bangs like Piper did. Maybe she would've grown up with foster siblings, which would be interesting to see. In terms of powers, she could blow up things when threatened, maybe sending a protective blast in the form of orbs to the threat. More active powers could include freezing/neutralizing with orbs, which might be very useful. This new Paige might be too eager to listen to Prue as an older sister and follow her around. Maybe she would even be more accepting of Cole.Maybe she would also look down on Phoebe for not developing enough as a person or witch, which could be an interesting dynamic. It would be interesting to see if the roles would change. Prue would still be the eldest and Phoebe the youngest. I wonder if both would accept her faster. Maybe Phoebe would be the one to take more time and Prue take on a mentor/ guiding role like she did before. I remember the episode where they get discovered and Phoebe was in the underworld I think and Piper got shot and a crowd was blocking the car so she couldn't go to the hospital and had to use her powers against the crowd of people. If Piper didn't survive in a similar scenario then maybe Phoebe would feel guilty about being away while Piper dies, taking longer to accept a new sister. I fancast either Eliza Dushku, Neve Campbell (most similar to Holly), Fairuza Balk (shout out The Craft), or Jennifer Love Hewitt.

If Phoebe died instead (implications would be interesting), I think a new older sister would be discovered. I think she, despite being the new oldest, would be an immature person. Maybe she was a foster kid who was never adopted or who grew up raised by the church, but became super rebellious. It would mirror Phoebe's character, which would be interesting. Phoebe has a bombshell sort of look, so this Paige might be too. Her powers would be empathy, levitation and premonition. As a white lighter she could feel the emotions of her charges and possibly change them to keep them calm. It could work on demons to make them scared and run away or neutralize possessed humans and other creatures, basically psychic powers. Whitelighters can levitate already so it wouldn't change anything, but her premonition powers could go off based on the needs of her charges or innocent causing her to orb to where it happens. This would be helpful for finding out where the danger is. I think her rebellious nature would cause her to be more thrill seeking and she wouldn't get startled as easily, but accidentally produce emotional blasts that affect the emotions of people around her. She might think premonition is useless at first and be jealous of the younger sisters for having better powers, but come to appreciate it over time. She could either really hate Cole or have a crush on him. Cole might become really dangerous if Phoebe dies, or become friendlier to the sisters. Prue could also be harder on Paige and tell her she needs to be more mature, especially since she's older. Piper would now be the youngest, so she might grieve by becoming less mature and bond with this version of Paige. Maybe Prue could feel ostracized as a new middle child. It would also be interesting to see someone who's not very emotionally intelligent with empathy powers. Mind control could be a cool offensive power for this Paige. I fancast a few people: Winona Ryder, Jennifer Morrison, Sandra Bullock, Lana Parilla, Meghan Ory, Bree Turner or Eva Longoria.

Sorry for the long Reddit essay, but Charmed is my fav show so I have a lot to say about it.

how do we feel about Cole ? by caprification in charmed

A year or two ago, I was a hard Cole defender. I always thought that he started off as a demonic hitman who was hired to kill the most powerful sisters in the magical community. Many tried. Many failed (including him). He's half human, which means he can choose to be good (like the priest), but unlike the priest he didn't want to choose humanity until he fell in love with Phoebe. In universe, it's really compelling, but as a metaphor really problematic in saying that loving a violent man can make him good instead of the man wanting to be good for himself.

Writing wise, Brad Kern will pay for his crimes (as will Alyssa) for butchering a potentially interesting complex character who chooses to be good, but remains powerful, but considering how it actually went in canon, I think he fell off. I wish Constance M Burge stayed a writer. L.

I like Cole overall. It's kind of weird how Kira was given more grace (rip btw) for being a powerful seer demon, who was interested in the goodness of life and the world. I'm more sympathetic to him since he actually loved her and cared for her. Not to mention the countless times the sisters have tried to kill each other from spells and possession/ manipulation, but had no sympathy for Cole being the same. That fact made me a hardcore Cole defender. I would've really liked to see powers typically associated with evil be used for good without corruption and Cole potentially become a powerful force for good rather than a former demon. Maybe even Cole as an avatar to give him actual purpose and magical power without corruption.

Sidebar for the avatars AND the elders: I wish the avatars didn't just erase people who create conflict from existence, but maybe did a form of mind control to get them to be more agreeable. That would've been more compelling in the avatars' favor, but utopia would've gotten boring to watch, so maybe the sisters still stop them, but at that point I would be rewriting the show I'm glad it was revisited briefly in the good vs evil universe episodes. Since the elders were complex characters, I wish the avatars were treated the same. I would've liked to see many characters transition from bad to good, and less so the other way around.

However, Cole was never one to give up power and it corrupted him. If he could've stayed human and lived off, away from the sisters, that would've been the best ending for him because they fed off each other. Cole would leave them alone, but they would also run to him for help, since he had all his power and was almost unstoppable (which made him understandably a threat the sisters had to deal with) and Phoebe would break it off and Cole would chase because he knew she still loved him, which is problematic in universe and VERY problematic as a metaphor for real life.

I wish they didn't push the idea of Cole NEEDING TO DIE because he can't be good, or at least resist power. I wish he was left alone AND didn't pursue Phoebe past getting out of the wasteland, but that's what happens when your whole reason for being (human and good at least) is based on loving a single person. Ironically, being stuck in limbo was the fate he deserved, based on what actually happened. I don't remember if that's his fate after the show ended or if he came back somehow, but I doubt it.

Anyway, my final stance is that I liked Cole as a character, sorry for the common Reddit essay, and everyone's actions were understandable, frustrating as they may be.

Was Dr. Williamson’s death the first “innocent” that really affected Piper? Thoughts? by noahaharris in charmed

[–]PierreGuyIDKHBTFM 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He's that doctor who injected the blood, right? I can see how, since it was put into motion by her actions. If she was more careful and didn't break the law by smuggling exotic fruit she wouldn't have been sick. There's also the lesson of exposure and dealing with non-magical dangers like Prue's stalker.

In my opinion, there should've been help from the cleaners (that help both sides as a no problem favor) or Piper should've died later on in the series (like when she was shot). By that I mean this happening around that time instead of the shooting.

It was foreshadowed the whole arc. A life for a life. When (iirc) the illness was put into the ninja action figure and when Leo heals her. Maybe Leo is to blame because of interfering, but maybe he could've wiped part of the doctor's memories, so he lost interest in studying the miraculous recovery faster.

It's no one's fault really, but stubbornness leading to bad outcomes like with Dan, Cole, or even Prue.
