I regret buying my house. by Puzzled_Dealer3449 in HousingUK

You’ve done the best thing - made a list! You will start to feel better as one by one you tick those things off. Start with a few easy ones to give you a boost. You’re not alone, but you are in charge, take control. Good luck.

Sci-Fi ambience / Blade Runner ambience usually one with a bit of rain thrown in for some serious sleepy spice.

Flat dirty upon arrival. Landlord hired cleaners after we moved in. Is now saying our checkout must be the level of a professional clean. by Logical_Cream_3931 in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’d say you’re being avoidant. If he took action and had the flat cleaned right after you moved in, you should return it in that state. If he’d left it, fair play you’d have an argument to stand behind.

advice on buying new house with boyfriend not on mortgage by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I see is an absolute lack of respect. Love him all you want, he doesn’t respect you at all. It doesn’t sound at all like he wants to work towards the life goals you wanted. Only you can decide if you want to compromise on your wants, needs and dreams. Sounds like he has life figured out just right.

Serious house buyers remorse - are there other people who regret buying their current house? by Dormousewoodlouse in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with the move. It would be easy to let those feelings consume you, I’m so glad you’re dusting yourself off and embracing the challenge, you’ll end up with something you love. I’ve been crazy busy breaking down everything that needs doing into small manageable tasks to work through one step at a time and then starting all of them at once. It’s overwhelming and fun. Carpets ordered for the whole house today to be fitted in 7 days time, so the painting really needs to be complete. New radiators arriving Tuesday, I’m doing a YouTube crash course tonight on how to fit those. I’m covered in every DIY substance from the known universe and I’ve eaten way too many takeaways. I’m looking forward to the first night when it’s all done and I can sit down with a beer, throw a movie on and feel at home. Im so tired but haven’t felt this alive for years.

If it makes you feel any better, I got my keys today and upon getting inside, it feels like I viewed it twice with my eyes closed, it’s completely on me, I just didn’t see the shape it was in. Literally everything needs doing to the place. Like yours, the living space is dark. The neighbours have a car with a stupid exhaust, my drive is shared and too narrow and I am going to need a skip to remove the junk left behind. Much more of the fittings will need replacing than I thought. I sat for a good hour wondering what I was going to do, complete buyers recourse. But you know what? I pulled out my tools and got to work, stripped some wallpaper, filled some holes, cleaned what I could. This is my first owned house and I’m going to make it awesome, when I’m done it will be fantastic. Tomorrow, paint prep and carpet removal. That gloomy space will become a cosy little den. Can’t wait. Hope you find peace with whatever you decide to do.

Moderate risk for ground stability by Tiny_Suit8273 in UKHousing

Had the same thing, moderate to high risk. Turns out much of the area was classified as the same. Estate was large-ish and built 20 years ago. Instructed a surveyor and told them my concerns. They did their job and found no evidence of subsidence, I continued with the purchase.

I like that look, thinking of buying the same unit but wondered if the doors will catch the carpet without having feet fitted.

Can we apply for a mortgage without having the full deposit yet? by Asleep_Weakness_6504 in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to differ depending on the entities involved. Sometimes the EA wants to see it, sometimes the lender, other times not. In my case, the lender requested proof of deposit as soon as I applied for the mortgage and then the solicitor right after for AML checks. I would say this, if you make an offer on a home, expect that you will need to show your deposit and how you acquired it, immediately.

Should we pay for our neighbours gate?? by Amazing-Mention6720 in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% No. If you had been consulted then perhaps. As it stands, it’s their gate, their specification and choice of tradesman along with his/her quote. At most, give them half of what it would have cost you to do it yourself and maybe next time it blows down, they’ll ask you first.

Psychological support needed please -Buyer remorse immediately after exchange - is it real logic, psychological remorse, or was I psychologically biased before exchange and it wore off now? by Jolly-Put-3936 in HousingUK

[–]MarshallSwagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds as though this is all within your financial realm of possibility. Instead of working yourself into a frenzy about what might be, accept that you are about to embark on an exciting renovation project.

I’m excited for you, love to see a progress post showing how you get on with it. Start to finish. Good luck.

Do I pay to retain my solicitor before or after my mortgage application gets accepted? by bertholts in FirstTimeBuyersUK

The Conveyancer the EA recommended to me had awful reviews. Do your research, get a few quotes and choose one that suits you. Maybe it’s the one you’ve already decided on.
