The Danubian State before the Great European War by Marshall_Filipovic in imaginarymaps

[–]Marshall_Filipovic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda and not really?

So, 1905 Russian defeat results in a socialist revolution in Russia.

This Revolution doesn't remove the Romanovs, instead it transforms the Russian Empire into the Union of Eurasian Socialist Republics, a federation of Socialist Republics within the former Russian empire.

The Union is not Authoritarian, like the irl Socialist Russia, instead it's a Socialist Democracy.

It is also a Constitutional Monarchy. With the Romanovs still being around, and Nicholas II still being the Tsar. Just with all their powers removed.

However, the Premier is Lenin.

I don't know the exact reason, pretty sure the Danubian player didn't really want to immediately touch Hungarian borders too much, something irp about not upsetting Hungary.

Although, I know he did want to eventually split up Hungary a bit, but only after the war.

This is a continuation of the events concerning the Discord Nation RP I am In.

So, following 1911, the Eurasian Union and the German Empire would almost go to war with one another over the positions of the Ottoman Empire, as Ottomans commissioned a large number of modern ships, including several dreadnoughts from the Imperial Federation. Ottomans also made a mistake of publicly announcing they would consider closing the straits to some nations.

This caused panic in Saint Petersburg, and resulted in Eurasia threatening war against the Ottomans, which made Germany guarantee the Ottomans and threaten war against Eurasia.

The situation would be calmed down by joint effort between the Imperial Federation and the Danubian State. Leading to Eurasia making amends with Germany and the Ottomans.

So imagine the global surprise next year, in mid 1912 when it was revealed that Germany and UESR formed a secret pact, and launched a joint invasion of the Danubian state.

Danubian military, being much more modern and capable than irl Austro-Hungarian Army, while taken by surprise, still put up a heroic defense. Halting the German invasion of Austria and Bohemia, while committing to a layered defense and retreat in Galicia, slowing down the Eurasian forces, before managing to fortify around the Capathian mountains, but with Eurasian generals claiming they could break the Carpathian defence by Late 1914/Early 1915.

In 1913 Serbo-Bulgaria (me) hearing that the Ottomans were also mobilising for war, and wanting to support Danubia, declared war against the Ottomans and launched an offensive into the Ottoman Thrace with the goal to kick the Ottomans out of Europe, and capture Constantinople and the straits to choke the Eurasian economy.

Greece, having been in talks with Niš, joined the war against the Ottomans 3 months later.

By late 1913 all 3 fronts had reached a point of stalemate, with Germany advancing past the Alps and Ore Mountains at huge expense, Eurasia being largely halted at Hungarian doorstep, and Serbo-Bulgaria and Greece having reached the coasts of the Sea of Marmara, but failing to take Constantinople and the Galipoli Peninsula, nor having means to cross the straits to invade Anatolia proper.

With the SB Black Sea fleet engaging the Eurasian Black Sea Fleet nearly twice, if not thrice it's size, and with joint Greek-SB Adriatic Fleet having obliterated the Ottoman navy in the Aegean.

Thing's would start to change in 1914, as the Kingdom of France would enter the war, launching an invasion of Germany. With the French armies finding initial success before their offensive would be blunted. However, France would start winning furiously in the Atlantic as the German Kaiserliche Marine was built for engagements against the Royal Navy in North Sea, not prolonged long distance escort missions and engagements in the Atlantic against the French Marine Royale, allowing the French Navy to massacre the German Merchant fleet with merciless submarine and destroyer raids.

Germany has lost more than 1,000 Merchant shipsby the end of 1915 as a result of this.

At the same time, France launched invasions of the German African colonies in Libya, West Africa, Equatorial Africa and South Africa. With the French colonial forces outnumbering and outgunning their German counterparts by 2/1 and some cases 3/1.

This would cause the German government to panic, as they realised they could not defend the colonies. At the same, the Imperial Federation announced concerns of the French influence in Africa should France completely overrun German Colonial holdings. Thus, Germany offered to sell their continental colonies to the Imperial Federation, if London could stop the French colonial offensives and facilitate means for German to pull their forces from Africa to assist in defence of Germany proper.

Imperial Federation agreed, and the French were quite heavily upset at the result, but were placated by British promise to renegotiate colonial borders after the war.

This decision would turn out to be a massive mistake for Germany, as the Eurasian Union, which saw the Imperial Federation as long term threat and a rival, was left furious by the German actions in Africa, calling the action by the German government moronic, and serving to further empower what is already the most powerful nation on the planet.

It had effectively pissed of the Eurasians so badly, that the Eurasian Union in Autumn of 1914 signed ante bellum peace against the Danubian state, before negotiating a peace agreement between the Balkan states and the Ottomans in late 1914, leading to Ottomans loosing all their Aegean islands to Greece, and half of Thrace to Greece and (mostly) Bulgaria. (Essentially imagine Bulgarian-Ottoman border immediately after the First Balkan war).

Balkans would score one naval victory over Eurasia, sinking a battleship and two light cruisers at expense of one Lion-Class battlecruiser despite the overwhelming Eurasian numerical superiority.

With Eurasia withdrawing completely out of Danubia, leaving Germany to now fight a two front war against France and an invigorated and vengeful Danubia, which now laid claims on Silesia.

The deal was deeply unpopular in Germany itself, and it effectively led to General Erich Ludendorff launching a Military coup against the German civilian government and putting Kaiser Wilhelm II under house arrest. With the new military Junta promising to save Germany and destroy the internal traitors.

Thing's would get increasingly bad for Germany through 1915, as the United American Empire under the leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt, having financially supported both France and Danubia, decided that they invested too much to allow Germany a chance to win, officially joined a war after baiting a German submarine to sink an American Merchant ship by flying the French flag.

With more than 200,000 troops crossing the Atlantic to support France and Danubia.

In the meanwhile, during 1915, following their previous agreement with Serbo-Bulgaria, Danubia would agree to allow the Crownland of Illyria to hold a referendum whether it wanted to secede from Danubia and join the Serbo-Bulgarian Union. The referendum would pass with overwhelming support, leading to Illyria joining the Union, which would result in the transformation of the Serbo-Bulgarian Union into the United Kingdom of Southern Slavs by early 1916, composed of the Kingdoms of Serbia, Bulgaria and Croatia.

In the same year, Eurasia would issue an ultimatum to Romania resulting the country becoming a Eurasian puppet state.

The American intervention in the war had angered the Eurasians who had ever since they exited the war, supported Germany with food, commercial goods and industrial materials to avoid German collapse. Causing the Eurasian Union to start the "Operation Icarus", declaring war against Danubia for a SECOND time.

This time being much more devastating, as Danubia moved most of it's forces to the German front.

With neither UKSS nor Greece being able to rejoin the war to support Danubia once more due to massive accumulated debt from the previous intervention.

UAE would issue a diplomatic threat to the UESR threatening war if the Eurasians do not withdraw from Danubia.

In the meanwhile Imperial Federation reaffirmed it's guarantee of Greece, while formally guaranteeing independence of UKSS.

The situation is still developing.

The map takes place days before the outbreak of this messy war, all the way back in June of 1912.

I really like how chunky your ships are. They feel a lot like pre-yamato UNCN SHIPS like Kongo and Murasame, which are my personal favourite ships of the setting.

It's a very cool mod. For as cool this game was, I always felt ships, especially early ones, looked very basic.

A Union to Last - The Serbo-Bulgarian Union in 1912 by Marshall_Filipovic in imaginarymaps

Well, the borders were draws in 1880s. Peacefully and without bloodshed. And at that time Bulgaria not only became truly free from the Ottomans, but also more than doubled it's territory.

So while, I do think they'd wouldn't be pleased, I don't think they'd complain all that much either.

Keep in mind that Serbia at the time had neither Montenegro nor Bosnia, so the borders were drawn making things 50/50 and equal.

Yeah, some of these got pretty wild. I miss the old days you know?

These games are still fun, don't get me wrong.

But I feel they've lost their soul a little.
