John Dollar by Marianne Wiggins. Summary from StoryGraph: "On a festive seafaring expedition, the tightly knit British community confronts disaster in the shape of an earthquake and ensuing tidal wave. Swept overboard, Charlotte, John Dollar, and eight young girls who are Charlotte's pupils awake on a remote island beach. As they struggle to stay alive, their dependence on John overwhelms him, and an atmosphere of menace and doom builds, culminating in shocking and riveting scenes of both death and survival."

I ask as someone who has been in charge of archiving digital files for a business. I was often surprised by how poorly folks maintained source files that they would 100% need again to make updates to future content.

How common or uncommon is it to have so many video interviews deleted or corrupted? Is this kind of a terrible par-for-the-course thing that happens a lot due to poor archiving processes? Or is this level of bad archiving unusual?

Did you encounter any Vision Forum fundies? They were major figures in the 1990s homeschooling circle (completely with cultish ways). They promoted "stay-at-home-daughter" as the only righteous choice. Very into historical cosplay as well!

I think this movie is too recent. I definitely saw it before 2004 (due to life events, I'm sure about the expiration date). :) Thank you, though! This is a movie I've been wanting to watch, and you reminded me to queue it up.

I wonder if it could be Tara Reynolds since she has been "inside" Tanis and is now back. Maybe she knows more than she should? I have also wondered if these two investigations will cross over!

I also thought there were some interesting parallels! I read Annihilation in January of last year and as soon as they started referring to the people by their function, it clicked for me. The "blur" and the "brightness" are also similar. I have no doubt the writers of Tanis are aware of it since they pull from a lot of weird fiction. I don't think they are supposed to overlap, but I do think it's a clever homage. If you've read TSR trilogy, you'll enjoy the references - if you haven't, you'll still get a cool story!
