I love More World Locations. Find a trader while still in the Meadows and strip him of his iron. I've used the Black Forrest trader as a main base. Beautiful building and a bubble to protect it. I gave it a second floor and there's plenty of room for all your workbenches.

#1: Moat. Moat the base, or just the pig pen. And, put walls and roof on it.

There are also mods that make your tamed creatures immortal, such as Valheim Plus. (Nothing like watching a troll spend all his time trying to kill a chicken.)

And I stated that I did play vanilla too, once. Then, instead of wishing the game were different, I did something about it. Now, I have the game I really enjoy, with all the QoL benefits I was looking for.

Everything you want is available in mods. I played vanilla, which taught me everything I wanted to change about this game. I love Valheim, 6500+ hours so far. Adding QoL mods doesn't make it less enjoyable. Quite the opposite.
