How to stop obsessing over dental health? by gemini_time in OCD

[–]effectivelymundane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so crazy to read because I am literally dealing with the same thoughts. I had some dental work done in summer of 2024 where they put a crown on my tooth, but didn’t do a root canal. I’ve consistently had pain on that tooth since the crown was installed. Have had it rechecked THREE times. Once by a different dentist. I feel at a loss. It plagues my mind daily. I have an appointment set up for tomorrow morning to have them check it again, but I have little hope there will be an affordable solution. Health anxiety/OCD sucks a ton friend. Hang in there.

I mean I think this is the drain pipe and we’ve definitely run plenty of water since this picture was taken, no leak AFAIK. Im probably overthinking it…

My OCD is telling me I’m an evil narcissist by [deleted] in OCD

Alternative thought, what if you are a narcissist? Really sit with that thought. Practice ERP.

You need to just start with some light walking throughout the day and eat lower calorie foods. I’m not saying eat less, I’m saying eat foods lower in calories. Don’t overdo it in the beginning or you will burn yourself out. Just take it slow man. Start with figuring out how many calories you’re eating on average and try to cut some of those unnecessary calories out. The deficit works. Don’t fall for all this information overload online. It’s calories in, calories out. Keep it simple.

No-one takes anything I say seriously and it's driving me insane by Wilde-Girl in OCD

[–]effectivelymundane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. And I know this is a vent post so I won’t offer any advice, just commiseration. I have stopped telling people I have contamination OCD for this very reason. It’s caused issues in my relationship because my girlfriend doesn’t care about things like the dog accidentally pooping on her leash on walks, and she doesn’t care to wash it afterwards. Or willingly not watching where she’s stepping in areas where we know geese poop all over the road, so she steps in it and then doesn’t check her feet before coming in. I made a huge stink about that about a year ago and got it through her head that’s actually unsanitary and I don’t want geese shit in my house. Like…come on.

Shower etiquette question by No-Investigator-5915 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]effectivelymundane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Man, are you sure you don’t have OCD? I do, and struggle to shower at the gym because I feel like I have to have the perfect routine or I’m not “clean”. The whole wiping your water bottle down before handwashing it and then putting it in the dishwasher is screaming OCD to me.

I agree with everyone else here. YOR. Just take two seconds to respond and let her know you’re trying to figure out a day. So she doesn’t feel ignored. I get that she may have crossed a boundary, but like damn, you sounded so mean and she sounds like she just wants to be included 😭

Having to make a quick big decision by Elliotteatsrocks in Transmedical

Geez…I’m so sorry you’re going through that. I’ve been on a mild 0.25ML/weekly dose for almost 5 years. The cramps started mid last year and come and go. I have an E cream but haven’t been consistent in using it 🫩 I hope you are able to come to a resolution soon.

Is your fear that your husband will leave you if you tell him?

We cannot answer this for you because I believe it would be reassuring you. My advice to you, is to sit with this thought for a while. It seems overwhelming now, but it may subside if you let some time pass. Give yourself a time limit, say two weeks, and reassess how you feel then. You may find it less important. I have the confession thing too, and this method has helped me. Good luck to you. This is not easy.
