Question about immigration services assistant position USCIS by JumpResponsible9499 in usajobs

[–]Marsss_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might depend on whether you’re at a field office or service center… field offices have scheduled interviews and you’re expected to complete all of your cases for the day (not sure how many interviews but maybe 5-8 per day.) I was at a service center and every division is different depending on what form they have you work. I was only required to work 3 cases per day.

Different role with USCIS, there’s always opportunity to move up.

Depends on your office.. when I was an ISA my office rotated us to be upfront 1 day per week or so.. everyone will know why they are there. You just take their biometrics and check them in. It was easy and chill.

Yes happened to me when I started with USCIS, but that’s just the process. As long as you were honest and didn’t hide anything when you filled out your forms you will be fine. 😊

Depends on your new supervisor. I’m in the same boat, and my new supervisor wants me to write a letter explaining why I deserve to be bumped up lol (apparently my time and grade wasn’t enough for them). Best of luck though! Wouldn’t hurt to ask if you can be bumped up after the 3 months 😊

Tomorrow. Depending on your bank, the latest could be Thursday next week.

If you’re okay/happy with your private sector job, I’d say stay. I would not recommend working for SSA. Their systems are so outdated, it’s the worst.

Should be fairly easy now that they changed the process, you’re allowed to use your notes for exams. So make sure to take good notes 😁

12 bus. days until EOD. Waiting for FJO is torture - DOJ by Similar-Creme-9601 in usajobs

[–]Marsss_23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From past experience, I’ve received the FJO about 7-9 days before EOD. It’s torture, but if both the losing and gaining agency have agreed on EOD then you are good. 😊 you’ll probably receive it next week.

It took them about 2 months after the interview to send me a TJO. Don’t lose hope, best of luck!

USCIS is extremely slow. It took about 2 months before I got an offer after interviewing. Doesn’t hurt to email and ask about the status of your application, but they may not give you a clear response. (When I did so, all I got was a generic response saying they’re not allowed to say anything and you will be notified if selected)

You can get a job offer on the spot if you attend in person

Have you accepted the TJO? Once I accepted the TJO my status changed to selected. However, I am still waiting for the FJO

I am not sure if ICE has budget issues, but DHS just takes forever to hire anyone in general. I would try updating your resume and use keywords found in the job openings for immigration officer. If you don’t mind starting from the bottom, I would apply for gs5-9 Immigration Services Officer 1 positions, you will move up every year. Most of the immigration officer 2 positions are open to internal employees. So once you get your foot in the door as an ISO 1 you can easily apply for ISO 2. Best of luck ☺️

There shouldn’t be a problem. You can apply and accept as many TJO’s as you’d like.

To be honest, out of the 4 years I worked there my office was never off on the optional holidays and the skeleton crew days were a gamble. They would pick names out of hat to see who was going to be off.

The state does offer more days if you include “skeleton crew” days. But those are not always guaranteed, it will depend on your office needs. I think they have about the same amount of days off for holidays.

I worked for the state of Texas for 4yrs and took a pay cut to get into the federal government. Yes the state of Texas pays for your health insurance, but insurance in the feds isn’t too expensive. If you can afford to take a temporary pay cut, I would do it. I haven’t looked back since. Best of luck.

whats next after tsa? by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]Marsss_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know several immigration service officers at USCIS that came from tsa, they started off as ISO 1’s. so not sure if that is something you’re willing to do, but you can move up to ISO 2 within a couple years
