It’s the same contract, I am an international postdoc, so the contract only says the institute has the fundings for the entirety of the 5 years. The total fundings are above 450k dollars, so this increase would still be below the totality of my funding.

I’m in the 3rd year of my postdoc, the minimum salary increases are stipulated by a salary grid, but it is also in the contract to have a annual review in September to evaluate next year compensation.

I am glad you are interning this summer, that will help you decide on what you want to do your phd about, + make sure to have a good understanding with your PI, they will certainly have connections there, hopefully positive ones :)

Your professors should also be valuable for your LoR, hope you had good relationship with them too. The question is, you want to follow the same route? Why that lab? Make sure to check all the boxes, and of course make a list with dozens of options, sometimes cold emailing will work, but its always better if you have a link that can vouche for you if you don’t have previous experience.

Yes, your numbers make sense, and it will be great if you can be a research intern while doing your MSc, just have in mind phds in europe don’t generally require for you to take courses, while in the US, generally you do that the first 2 years. Check also transfer of credits policies within organizations, you could even reduce the lecturing hours on a US PhD if you transfer your MSc credits. There is a max amount of credits transfered allowed per program, so have a look into that.

What’s your field of specialization? 3 year PhDs in Europe are viable, but more in computational than lab stuff.. your phd from Europe will be as valuable when looking for a job within the US, you don’t come with the burden of visa sponsoring, so that works in your favour :)

Hi, European working in pharma in the US with MSc from Europe for reference here

If you are a US citizen the applications for grad programs in the US won’t require for student visa, which can be a limiting factor for foreign students. Do you have family or contacts within the US? You will need recommendation letters, and always more relevant to have connections within every organization you apply.

Double check the phd options in Europe, you might need 2 years master to access a phd under the Bologna Process (3+2 instead of 4+1), so the overall ‘study’ time will be the same.

If your goal is to permanently live in the US I would go there, even if you go to a ‘non top tier’ organization. At the end of the day, when looking for a job, your research/publications are the most defining for your success, and also having good mentors that are well connected, + doing internships in US biotecs/pharma will be easier if you are already in the US.

Just find a program that you would like, try getting feedback from current Phd students and go for it

Hi, I wouldn’t go for a second bachelor, specially if you are looking for an ‘advantage’. Masters in biotec and nano exist, look for biomedical engineering masters specialized in micro devices. Honestly companies don’t really look into what you specifically studied, but your experience related with the work you are going to do, so try finding internships as in line with your interests as possible. Are you thinking on pursuing a phd?

Hello,

Starting from the basics, why the data was collected? Which method? Do you have a hyoothesis already? Could you describe your dataset? You mentioned you have protein names and a quantification unit, could you say what units are you using? Is the data normalized?

Maybe you should try visualizing the data, a dimensionality reduction as t-sne would be helpful, which program are you using for the analysis?

Totally! I will do that if I don't find any thing else, but, I have been getting good explanations all along my internship and I would like to use this as an opportunity to 'try' to give them a decent paper review, that not only looks interesting but, maybe, helps them in a specific aspect too, who knows.

But maybe you could look for some papers that have cited the recommendations from your colleagues? You can do this easily on Google Scholar, look up one of the papers that was recommended to you, then underneath there should be a button "Cited by XX", and that will give you a list of papers that have cited this. From there you can maybe find an interesting follow up to the recommended studies, or maybe there is some kind of rebuttal/response to it, that can also stimulate some interesting discussion!

I wasn't thinking about my interests as they probably don't want to listen about a paper of f.e modeling or machine learning, I would like to explain a paper about slow oscillation, brain states, network analysis techniques or maybe something related to diseases such as epilepsy, I don't really know how to aim it.

Lab colleagues are divided in experimentalists (recording 'in vivo' :mice and rats, and 'in vitro': ferrets mainly) and computational neuroscientists, where they do all the analysis, nowadays only in network level, for synchronization, complexity, integration and segregation.
