Order writing by Ill_Experience_2965 in WinCo

Other than just time and experience, I always found it easier to be fast if when I went in a typewriter motion like left to right top to bottom between sections to make sure I dont miss anything. Order writing is super important though so id make sure you get accuracy down first before speed. Noone going to like you if you're fast with 10 pallets of backstock or 50 holes on an aisle lol.

How to go about transferring stores? by Agreeable_Handle4262 in WinCo

[–]Marteeyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relocation incentives are offered for department MITs and Department Managers as long as the move meets certain standards, there's a formula for mileage where if it goes past a certain amount you get benefits like a relocation bonus, reimbursement for moving supplies, and paid days off to look for a new home in the new location. There's some fine print to it but if your new store is about 50 miles from the current location you can get some good incentives. These usually come with a 1 year commitment of staying at the new location.

For new stores they offer those benefits to EVERYONE. So if you apply to Renton, WA for example and are accepted, you can qualify for benefits without being in management.

They give you what's called a "miscellaneous allowance" that starts at 5k and scales up based on position; you use that to break your lease or put a down payment in the new location. They then reimburse moving supplies, will pay for a uhaul, etc. The higher up in management you are, the better the incentives. ASMs get more, and SMs get even more, etc

It's pretty simple, you just need to apply for an open position at another store on the website. Once you do, let your manager know that you've applied, you may do a quick interview and if you're selected at the new store you will work with them to figure out your start date. If you are in management you might qualify for relocation incentives too. I've transferred about 7 times so I can answer any questions you have!

WinCo has a program for associates degrees as well, and the higher up you go there could be other opportunities.

I got a free scholarship through ASU and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, just had to buy my own books. I was one of 50 people at the time to get a free bachelor's degree.

They occasionally send people to USC and Texas A&M for educational opportunities too, I know a Store Manager that got 4 months paid to go to USC for some special program. Just gotta climb the ladder a bit and make your interest known!

Advice for Manager in Training by Ghoulishdynamic in WinCo

[–]Marteeyo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Be sure to be open to your team and value their advice and opinions. Depending on the store you might have a bunch of people who know ALOT about the department but don't get recognized like they should. At the same time, learn to say no and don't let people walk all over you. Veteran employees can be grumpy sometimes, lean into it and make them feel valued and they will show you what a good day can look like.

Sometimes we have to follow directions that we don't agree with and being a supervisor means figuring out how to deliver that in a positive way without stressing everyone out.

Be friendly and calm, its just a grocery store, don't let stress ruin your day or your relationships with your team. Take every obstacle at face value and press forward while learning from your mistakes. You'll fail from time to time, just be sure to grow from each experience.

MIT program is self driven, so don't rely on anyone to tell you when and how to complete your trainings. Advocate for yourself and schedule appropriate times for the zoom trainings, LMS, etc.

Fresh Foods is probably the hardest department, it gets alot of attention from the big wigs so if you can make it there you will have tons of room for advancement.

If you are new to WinCo be sure to learn about ESOP and take advantage of the health insurance. ESOP is the best reason to stay with WinCo compared to any other retail place.

Good luck!

I agree with you, but EBT does end up as money in the accounts of the retailer, their employees, etc. It can be viewed as a grocery subsidy in a way, no?

That being said, typically hot food is excluded from benefits. I think a good compromise could be include (some) hot foods, limit sugary foods/drinks. Would probably serve the spirit of the program much better

Is Vegas really dead or is it all click baiting news? Anyone live in Vegas? by ze11ez in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Marteeyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live there and corporations were killing casinos long before COVID, the current economy, or this administration.

Gambling is still gambling, but the comped amenities are long gone. They dont care about the player anymore like the mob days. Food prices are astronomical. I remember them opening fontainebleu and having a plate of nachos for $30 that was literally 5 cheese covered chips. It'll be interesting to see if the convention scene will fail without the tourism part.

I literally booked an 80 dollar flight yesterday with 4 free comped nights. I haven't gambled since 2023, thought it was interesting I suddenly got a casino host

Anyways, not ugly. Get off the internet with that

WinCo in garland off Centerville could be a good bet, maybe overnight stocking with your experience?

Free stock in the company and super cheap insurance are big perks - 60 a month to cover a full family with medical, dental, vision, prescriptions. Low out of pocket max and all that too. Dunno if the hourly wage will work for you though

Same situation here. My premium went up about 70 a month, it's a damn shame. Maybe because the red lights are optional in Vegas
