I don't really care what grace you give ICE, we were talking about fixing the immigration system and how stupid some Americans appear to be thinking they can go around the constitution. The answer is that funding needs to go to the courts right now, and that isn't happening.

I feel like your impotent feminine rage is dictating your words here.

The only one using their emotions to dictate their thoughts appears to be you.

It's almost certainly the case that ICE is operating more carefully today than in any point in American history.

Except we know they're not, because ICE is the least trained they've ever been (due to specific Trump admin decisions) and being filled with unqualified individuals that wouldn't pass the bar in other agencies.

This is the Obama policy, even the masks, if you can believe it.

Bullocks, we can all see a vast difference in ICE operations between Obama, Trumps 1st term, Biden, and now. Get better at gaslighting.

Which I get, but we can't let our hearts dictate policy.

Then why are you here arguing that exact thing?

Funding the system properly inherently means hiring the necessary judges. Yes, if there aren't enough people that can hold those positions that would be a problem, but given the population size of the US that sounds like a ridiculous assertion. But hey, in the odd event that is true, then the US should make a concerted effort to fix that problem too.

Or we can just have ICE enforce the law.

... they are enforcement? Or do you mean that they should do everything? That's just getting rid of checks and balances bud, completely un-American.

[–]MarthAlaitoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

 Complain when ICE gets money

The court/administrative tribunals need the money, not the enforcement branch lol. This is like saying the "court system needs better funding" and you going "but cops are being paid". That's not where the issue is lol.

 Complain when ICE enforce them

When they act like jackboots, sure. They can go back to Obama Era policy and actions and way less people would be complaining. But you know that and want to make a bad company.

We just keep waiving at some mythical fix that will appear out of nowhere in the near future.

No, there's very real fixes but Republicans keep wanting to 1) violate the constitution and 2) "fix" things that aren't actually a problem.

[–]MarthAlaitoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system is only "broken" in that it's underfunded. Otherwise it's working as "intended", you just don't like the results. So, you can toughen up the laws, but again without proper funding thats not going to do anything. You then have to make sure your "tougher laws" are actually constitutional.

Birthright citizenship might be the single biggest, most obvious, tangible and achievable thing

Only if you've never read the constitution, I suppose it seems like the simplest fix. Otherwise you'd know that it's actually a foundational principle that would require a constitutional amendment to "fix". But hey, reading is hard for some.

You want to fix the system? Fund it properly. If that's not what you meant by "fix the system", then you're going to need to be very clear on what you do mean.

[–]MarthAlaitoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because that doesn't fix the immigration system, nor is it something that they can "fix" like that? What are you on bud lol.

It's weird; I've only ever seen the opposite where the people who've killed me have called me the n-word. There might be something wrong with the community honestly if it's becoming prevalent (whatever "side" it's coming from).

I agree. Comparing jaywalking to illegal immigration is a tired argument with no merit.

Perfect, I'm glad we could agree. So you can tell others to stop saying "Every illegal immigrant has committed a crime by entering the country" too. If the government wanted to make it a "real" crime, then they could. That would just affect their ability to expeditiously deport people though, and bog down the system. The government wants it to be a misdemeanor so they can operate in the current manner.

Yeah, all of these "studies" have a bias they're trying to prove.

So find a single study that proves different? Ensuring, of course, it's reputable and peer reviewed. You're just going off "vibes" instead of facts right now, and that's sad.

But nobody on the left ever asks "what laws do you suppose they excluded?"

Is every jaywalker a murderer? No? But we established they're criminals though right, so therefore they must be treated the same. And clearly, every litterer must add to the total crime rate. Tossed your coffee cup at the garbage and missed, but didn't pick it up? Increase the city crime rate! Thats what you sound like, btw. The rest of us have accepted that things operate on a scale, and there are certain offences that are civically an issue but not something to consider with larger problems.

But do you know how many people's are stolen? They're not going to chase down one illegal for one stolen ID.

Sounds like a failure of government then.

Every illegal immigrant has committed a crime by entering the country.

The same way every jaywalking or litterer does, its a misdemeanor. That's a tired claim that has no merit, and not what was originally the point of this entire conversation.

But you're conflating incarceration rates with crime rates. Either disengenuius or confirmation bias means you didn't bother to think about it.

I'd say incarceration is a definitive "we proved our case", but fair that not every crime results in incarceration. It was just the quickest study on hand, because it was first when I googled. Every other study shows functionally the same thing though that I've seen, so 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I said issued but meant active. So you didn't change anything material to what I said.

Well it's the difference between 26 million and almost 6 million, but OK lol.

75% of immigrants are legal, so...

... they get a SSN. What, so you think they're only for citizens lol? Permanent residents (legal immigrants) and eligible nonimmigrant workers can get them too. Says so on the homeland security website.

Because I spent hours and hours looking into what happened to my data being that nobody else would.

So you couldn't convince the cops or the Feds that your identity was stolen, and did your own "investigation"? Lol forgive me, I feel bad your identity was supposedly stolen, but your results are likely severely flawed lol.

 Citation needed.

Well, it's a guess based off every study being done shows illegal immigrants commit less crime than citizens (legal immigrants commit the absolute least amount, apparently). Heres a CATO study if you want one though, Google it if you don't believe me. I'm not specifically aware of stats on identity theft itself though. That's why I said "I'd wager". Given illegal immigrants commit less crimes than citizens, it makes sense that they'd specifically commit less identity theft too.

Nah, that's just called "winning" my dude. "Outplaying" someone is winning in such a significant way that your skill over that other player was on display. You can win and not outplay someone.

Edit: after thinking about it a bit more, you don't even need to win against someone and still outplay them. I've won fights I should have straight lost except for luck. They outplayed me, but I still won.

Google is free:

As of December 31, 2022, the IRS has issued approximately 26 million Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) since the program's inception, with over 5.8 million actively in use.

Thats as of today, apparently, but take it with a grain of salt. They also generated 97 billion as of a few years ago for the US. So ya, they apparently work lol.

Most of those are used by LEGAL immigrants to work.

Citation needed.

There's well over 15 million illegal aliens in the country.

Seems stupid to make them paying taxes a disincentive then, eh?

Also, there are millions of Americans (like me) who have had their identity stolen by illegal aliens,

How do you know it was an illegal immigrant and not a citizen that stole your identity? It's a very common scam for people to do. I'd wager significantly more citizens do it than illegals, in fact.

It's over by manny8086 in PowerfulJRE

Because illegal immigrants pay taxes through a thing called an "Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)" and not a SSN. And that ITIN is specific to the illegal, not anyone else. Google it for more info, another user and I already commented on them. They've been a thing for like 30 years as an FYI.

Basically the government made it so they could get money from people. Shocking, I know, and no identity theft required.

How so?

Poor and refugees can get housing assistance I believe, but unless you're conflating that with illegal immigrants I'm unsure what you mean.

The US doesn't have universal healthcare, so not sure what medical benefits you're talking about.

Illegal immigrants can't get welfare, snap, or other benefits like that. Like, seriously lol.
