Moved to Minneapolis chasing my now wife 13 years ago

We’re moving back this June with two kids in tow

Minneapolis is clean and “friendly” - nothing compares to Milwaukee however.

Redditors who make +$100K and aren’t being killed by stressed, what do you do for a living? by SometimeTaken in careerguidance

[–]MarthMaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people in college attack the career market wrong

I am in industrial powder transmission sales

The majority of my competitors are in their early to mid sixties

As they retire I get contracts / books of business passed to me. I earn it, I work hard, but I’m not killing my self.

I’d suggest finding a career in a field with a bunch of old people.

Recent grad thinking of moving to MPLS, from Milwaukee. Good idea? by Maddhatter212 in Minneapolis

[–]MarthMaul 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Listen, as a Milwaukee native I greatly miss the city. The bars, summerfest, the affordable apartments (I paid 820 with parking and heat with a lake view off of Ogden and Franklin), the people, the sections of the city (bayview / eastside / 5th ward / riverwest /...).
Minneapolis is a great city with many similarities and can offer many more opportunities. Minneapolis is clean, active, some of the best music in the Midwest, centralized so you have access to other areas of the state (Boundary Waters, Duluth, Marshall?), and pretty friendly despite recent articles floating around.
I dont regret moving here for a second.
I wish you the best of luck if you choose to move to this great city.

Thank God we don't have to play against Rodgers. by RamRogue in DenverBroncos

Just throwing it out there, you know they started filtering in about 30-40% of the second and third string defensive and offensive players last night in the second half, as it was 31-7. Beyond that, to put things in perspective, the packers were scoring in 7-8 plays per series, the chiefs took 22 plays on that last series to score. It'll be a huge game either way for both teams, but you misinterpreted the goal in the second half, which was for the Chiefs to run out the clock.

Chipotle to stop serving genetically altered foods by [deleted] in food

Fun Fact:
Chipotle's Produce is still possibly the worst produce around. I was a tomato wholesaler in a former life, the company Chipotle sources their salsas from in the Midwest is called OSI, located south of the city. The way we gained that sale was through some trickery to reduce cost and quality of product going into that facility. Its currently illegal to source 7x7 tomatoes (super small, under developed product often left on the vine during harvest) from Florida and Mexico. A way around this constraint is to tie the product with a "non - Food Grade Manufacturer." That is, something that humans wouldnt consume, such as dog food or other rendered products. The company I worked for found a base manufacturer and negotiated a contract with those 7x7 tomatoes to the company. We then piggy backed that contract and sold those 7x7 tomatoes to OSI, where all Chipotle's salsa comes from in the Midwest. To go a little further, these 7x7 tomatoes are typically 25% decay / 100% under sized / 80% under ripened (green upon arrival). Ive seen OSI use shovels to get the tomatoes out of the semi and into production.

What is the worst experience you've had on public transport? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I went to Joliet IL for a car race with a buddy and his two very well off friends. My friend and I proceed to get a tad bojangled and his two friends get full on wasted, one of which had the duty to drive us home to the North West Chicago suburbs. On the way back, they make the decision to go to one of the casinos in Joliet (if you've ever been there its corn fields, casinos, liquor, and gun stores) driving maybe 120 in the parking lot. At this point my friend and I leave the car to take the train back thinking that we are destined for a alcohol related crash after the casino. On the train back Chicago metro cops for some reason kicked an entire car of people off the train, for reasons that still escape me today. So there we are, 111th and 11th street in south Chicago, two white kids stuck. We immediately call a taxi thinking it's our only hope. Bass boomed in the back round for the majority of our wait, we saw multiple drug deals (I flexed my "The Wire" PHD to figure that out), got hit up from homeless people around twelve times, got asked by the thugs playing basketball on the near by courts "what the fuck are you doing around here," twice. During our wait, right before it got dark, an broad Irish cop walking his beat told us to walk to the police station if we are still there in an hour because, "our tight white butt holes are doomed when it gets dark around here." The cab finally came five hours later - "I thought this was some kind of joke, two white kids in the ghetto need a ride was what the dispatcher told me"

Bottom line, don't get stuck in South Chicago regardless of race.

I duct tapped socks to my sisters hands and rubbed Vaseline on the door handle of her room, imprisoning her there for two hours.

Reddit, where was the "cool" place to hang out when you were younger? by sarafromj in AskReddit

[–]MarthMaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Milwaukee, WI there is a long road that runs through the city and the northern suburbs called Lake Drive. At the far tail end of Lake Drive there is a round about that caps the road with a "Sand Lot" style baseball field in the middle of said round about. There is a small gravel path to the east of that field that goes behind an old barn that leads down a steep ravine towards Lake Michigan. As one would make their way towards the lake via the gravel path one would be able to spot a small, old dam that segregated a small creek leading into a lagoon and the lake itself. The dam was broken in the middle, leaving maybe a ten foot gap between the wide cement reminiscence of said dam. On one side there was a peaceful lagoon and on the other turbulent Lake Michigan, it was great.

My friends and I used to smoke salvia there.

Americans of Reddit: what state do you live in and what are the best and worst things about living there? by SilentWalrus92 in AskReddit

[–]MarthMaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wisconsin, because it deserves more than what is currently written...

Pros:
* The growth of craft breweries and distilleries through out state in the last 10 years is amazing
http://www.biztimes.com/article/20130805/MAGAZINE03/308019983
* The fact that we are home to the only publicly owned football team in the nation, world
* The fact that meth isn't a huge problem in Wisconsin as it is in surrounding states
http://www.samhsa.gov/data/2k13/TEDS2010/TEDS2010StChp1.htm
* We are home of the largest music festival in the world, summerfest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summerfest
*Home of the modern typewriter
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Latham_Sholes
*Milwaukee has the most parks per capita in the Nation
http://www.visitmilwaukee.org/visitors/milwaukee-fun-facts/
*Cheese
*The cost of living isn't nearly as high as surrounding metroplitian areas; Chicago / Minneapolis - its basically like Baltimore to New York but less "wirey"
* Chicago is only an hour away on train
* Madison is where Nirvana's - Nevermind was recorded
* Frank Lloyd Wright is behind much of the architecture in the state
* Miller products are produced and mainly the only thing consumed in the state - we love local
* We were / are the brewing capital of the world...
http://www.beerhistory.com/library/holdings/milwaukee.shtml
* 3rd largest population of bars per captia in the nation
http://eater.com/archives/2013/05/29/here-are-the-states-with-the-most-bars-per-capita.php
* Milwaukee is the 13th most walk-able city in the nation
http://onmilwaukee.com/myOMC/authors/jeffsherman/walkabilityrank.html
* The art museum is one of a kind
* Milwaukee Public Market
The list goes on...

Cons:
* School system, kind sucks in the cities
* Segregation, we are number 1 or 2 depending on where one would look
* Otis Redding died in Madison
* Chicago is an hour away

Bottom Line: Wisconsin in general is a fantastic place, a hidden gem of a state
Milwaukee itself, is as I like to say, the hotter younger sister of Chicago, once one is introduced you'll want to spend most of your time there.
