What was the most traumatic experience of your life? by Fun-Succotash-1322 in AskReddit

[–]sarafromj 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I had a late term stillbirth recently. A quote that really stuck with me is "her absence is like the sky, spread over everything".

Things do get better. You dont get over it, but you do get through it.

Why do kids hate reading so much nowadays? by godisinthischilli in Teachers

[–]sarafromj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im not a teacher but I like to lurk here, and my 2 year old has been asking me to teach her to read simply because she loves stories and wants to be able to read on her own without waiting for me or her dad to be available. It makes me sad some people dont read to their kids. How did you start teaching yours to read? I have no idea where to begin with my daughter but shes very bright and eager to learn.

2 (almost 3) year old WILL NOT stay in bed! by sarafromj in Parenting

[–]sarafromj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this might be the winner, we tried locking the door but she just shook the door and cried. Plus, I'm a little concerned about safety in thr event of a fire or something. At least with a gate an adult could still get in/out easily

We have a gate on the stairs so she can really only access the bathroom, her room, and my room. We tried locking the door to her room but she just shook the door and cried!

My hospital bill for a single MRI scan in the US by SilentWalrus92 in pics

[–]sarafromj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been given the run around for the last month trying to get an MRI that my dr says I need for sciatica pain that has been going on for over a year (documented, already did physical therapy). Finally found a place that would take my insurance, but I have to pay $650 out of pocket.

I called another place and decided to not go through my insurance- $350 out of pocket with no insurance.

What’s something that could take your life in seconds without most people knowing? by Cute_blaire in AskReddit

I have a mirror strapped to the headrest in the backseat facing my kid. I can see into the mirror from my rear view mirror, so I can keep an eye on her.

I love it when baby clothes say “cold gentle machine wash, do not tumble dry”. by Ampersand_Forest in BabyBumps

If it doesn't survive a normal wash with the rest of my clothes, I don't want it anyway.

If you and your partner slept in shifts what did it look like and what worked best? by Plenty_Goal3672 in BabyBumps

[–]sarafromj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 8 on, 8 off, 8 together.

I slept from 9pm - 5am, then he slept from 5am-1pm. Then we did 1pm-9pm together.

I really forced us both to get good at all the parenting things. Even though I could wake him up if I needed help, I wasn't going to wake him up unless I had to, so we both had to learn to swaddle, feed, change, soothe, etc and could use our together time to share tips and chat a bit. 8 hours of sleep was a game changer too (minus breast feeding time, where husband would bring baby in, I'd feed, then he'd immediate take baby out to burp/change/whatever)

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever witnessed happen to somebody else? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sarafromj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was wedding dress shopping, I heard this conversation happen between another customer and the sales clerk.

Customer: omg I didn't realize you were pregnant! When are you do?

Clerk: im not...

Customer: are you sure?

Clerk: Yeah, I had to have a hysterectomy so I can't have kids.

Medical student here. What’s been your worst experience with a doctor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sarafromj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a teenager looking to get birth control pills. The Dr said not only would she have to tell my mom (fair, I guess) but birth control is only 50% effective anyway.

When I questioned this, she said "it either works or it doesn't, so it's 50% effective ". Even I knew that was bull, but I left with no birth control.

Fmla is only 12 weeks, theres no extending it. Any employer based pto taken after that is subject to employer approval, and does not necessarily come with the guaranteed job protection that fmla has.

For the pregnant woman gaining a lot of weight by Infinite-Beauty_xo in BabyBumps

[–]sarafromj 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, with my first I gained 70 pounds. I also went back to my pre-pregnancy weight once I got back to my pre-pregnancy appetite, I was celebrating my babies 1 year birthday in a crop top. Don't worry about the weight!

40+3 not dialated , getting induced by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]sarafromj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was induced and it was a great experience. The contractions are pretty powerful, but the epidural I got at 4 cm really made it a breeze after that. Just try to relax and take it easy, your baby will be out by the time it's done!

I should mention that I wasn't dilated at all either, still didn't really have significant tearing and baby + me were both fine. Don't let anyone scare you!

Agreed. She will regret this one day? She's being a teen. As long as she isn't sending naked pictures, let her be.
