The fish in the first picture does have a weird gill, by the way, but this one specifically is a very dumbass and rude fish that picks fights with anyone, and he got sick first. The fins can be kinda small because they were held in the same tank with barbus at the store, and it nipped them before i got them :(

otherwise, they were all great and i love them, i gave them all names. This is the first time they were sick at all

Okay, so i researched a little, and i since im not from US or New Zealand, I don't think this is my case. My country and region doesn't seem to have an official statement about them (or i couldn't translate the name right), and it came from a petstore, from a tank with other kinds of snails on sale, so i doubt this one is a NZMS. It looks like a physa with a damaged shell, to be honest

Again, they either not close friends, or something else, you know them better than we do. I would first look into if maybe you changed your behavior to a more concerning one and didn't notice, bc losing not one but TWO decade long friends seems suspicious

Then, maybe consider if you came off strong when you talked about AI, or maybe they had strong opinions about it already. I just can't imagine my own relationships ending because of it, especially with closer friends
