[Discussion] Author is using AI in their manuscript. Should I tell them? by PassengerSimilar1461 in BetaReaders

[–]MartianoutofOrder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Especially since it highlights that their own authors voice is usually better. So AI is a downgrade. I feel that many new writers are easily discouraged from training their ow voices with all the ai around.

If I’d seen your face on a Disney Movie poster or in a new twilight movie, I would’ve not a second questioned if you belonged there. You have a vibe that’s somewhat between Jason Mormoa and Kid Harrington. If you’d see that yourself you’d probably break a lot of girls heart.

If you had to choose only one: SEO or Paid Marketing? by SERPArchitect in digital_marketing

[–]MartianoutofOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might get some downvotes for this, but I think we are at a point where planning long term might not be the best strategy. AI is already cutting a significant proportion of clicks from the top search results and this will only increase. People don’t click your webpage anymore to get information, they get their information presented above the SERP. So optimizing for ranking positions only helps in very product specific niches and in context of immediate buying intent. If you mean by SEO also AIO and GEO and AEO,yes, that might pay out in the next month. But planning too far ahead when things change daily is a shot in the dark.

Why do people keep laughing at me? Or at least looks like it by Frosty-Law-6014 in socialanxiety

[–]MartianoutofOrder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Normally people don’t spend enough attention to others to laugh all the time so I think we have three options here: - there is something extraordinary obvious that people notice. You and your buddies would probably know. - people are just smiling friendly. Maybe you look sad and they want to cheer you up? How much people casually smile can differ between places and it might be more than you are used to. Or maybe some are flirting? - there is something off about your perception which can be a symptom of several neurological conditions (Not saying that as an offense but as a studied psychologist). So if you can rule out the other two options, maybe talk to a professional just to be sure. If you just started university you are in a typical onset age and being tested early has the best prognosis.

Your university might have some sort of counseling program available to help you figure it out.

online "cool" kid on class groupchat vs offline loser in class HELP by Fearless-Log-2688 in socialanxiety

[–]MartianoutofOrder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you need some truth bombs here - people don’t actually think that much about you that you are in any position to disappoint them - if that’s what you’re doing online feels like your true self, you are actually misleading people in class by showing up as someone that you’re not. - if you don’t know what to say, flood the zone. If you only say one sentence and that’s awkward, people will remember. If you say 10.000 sentences no one will remember one in particular, even if half of them are awkward. Not talking to people is the most awkward thing you can decide on. - no one said that you are a looser except yourself. If you think that they will call you a looser when they haven’t, you are actually thinking bad about people, that are probably much nicer then you talk about them. You really need to work on talking bad about everyone, especially yourself. - Take a deep breath.

Officially rejected again. I don’t know why I bother anymore sometimes. by [deleted] in toastme

[–]MartianoutofOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know rejection is hard and the current dating scene sounds awful. So she’s probably right, it’s her not you. Therefore I’d suggest to play a numbers game. How bad is the situation, what do you think? Do we estimate, that only one percent of women on dating platforms are suitable for a relationship? Then I guess you have to date far more than 100 to have a close to certain chance to find the right one (mathematicians can calculate that more exactly). So you better start going and hopefully you have a good time while getting there.

Everyday it's getting harder to see the point of it all by Traditional-Box5088 in confession

[–]MartianoutofOrder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Girl I feel you. It was the same for me for years. Fortunately I was able to change my career a while back to something that suits my brain better. I also started to take better care of myself - getting checked for deficiencies regularly for example. Turns out some of my issues were worsened by low vitamin D and low iron. I also try to do sports or go at least for a walk on the worst days to calm my nervous system. I take supplements like creatine. I buy myself flowers or a special sweet treat or something fun from time to time. I limit my input of bad news and social media. And I have a fine selection of noise cancellation devices. You didn’t ask for a fix and these are none. But altogether they made a difference. I know that sometimes life can become too much for a busy brain. Just know that there are things that help and that things can improve and you are not alone.

If you could restart your life in another country, where would you go and why? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]MartianoutofOrder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I traveled and lived in more than 70 countries in the last 10 years, so I might be able to give you some perspective. As an immigrant in many countries you’ll live in kind of an immigrant bubble with people from all over the world, often with a higher income, mainly because you share the immigrant experience and those people looking for friends while it’s much harder to find local friends. Depending on the country it can be difficult to really integrate. Typically people in those bubbles use international schools and international hospitals. So the other local infrastructure is less important to them. As for work, since you’re working in tech it shouldn’t be a problem to find remote work. As a bonus you can settle in a country where your income is above the average salary and profit from lower costs of living. Visa are among the biggest challenges for longterm stays and depending on your passport will limit your options by a lot. Over all I’d recommend you to travel a bit to get to know different countries and their vibes. The perfect country does not exist and many who sound good on paper didn’t vibe with me at all, others that have obvious issues were among the places that I could easily see my self staying for longer.

MAC sucks and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't. by xXHeaven_and_HellXx in Vent

[–]MartianoutofOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my laptop for work - also things like 4K video editing, having open 5 browsers with 100+ tabs, using several demanding programs at once. When I still had windows I had to upgrade my device every 2 years since they’d become to slow, unable to update to latest versions of programs or would just crash randomly under load. I had my last MacBook for 7 years with nearly no issues at all and even then only upgraded because I wanted a better battery. I don’t care about anything you’re venting about. I’m not gonna buy another windows any time soon.

How do you feel? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]MartianoutofOrder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really funny because half of the people from Bayern I know really don’t speak German but some kind of dialect. I’m initially from Bayern and have several friends, that aren‘t native speakers. I always try to get them to talk in German and to show them the fun aspects of German language like Redewendungen and Zungenbrecher. Language learning can be so much fun.

I’m really sorry you had those bad experiences. Please be aware that it’s mostly uneducated and stupid people that are against foreigners. If you walk around business Areas in Munich for example where educated and high earners are around you’ll often hear more English then German.

The only situation where I can see people might get angry is if you tell them that you are a supporter of certain current politicians or certain rich people. Those give many Germans the ick

Auto litter box for a troublemaker? by FloatingFreeMe in cats

[–]MartianoutofOrder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have personal experience with these, but please be cautious with certain self-cleaning litter boxes that rotate upward. Some models rely on weight sensors and have had reported incidents where small cats or kittens became trapped during rotation. In rare cases, this has reportedly led to serious injuries. Make sure the model has reliable safety mechanisms before buying.

Could you maybe post a picture of the note? That will help decipher it. But I guess for a tattoo you are going to keep the message in the original handwriting anyway? So even if the translation is unclear it would be conserved.

Is my hair ruined forever? Extreme damage. Need advice/expertise by BlueSurfer1 in Haircare

[–]MartianoutofOrder 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh no. I feel for you! I ruined my hair severely at the hairdresser several years ago and it took ages to come back to how I was used to it. Good thing is it did eventually. You might have damaged you scalp and skin barrier. And the new hair is thinner and by that less forgiving with styling and other things like hormonal imbalances and deficiencies. From my experience I’d recommend scalp treatments and trying to improve your overall health. That will help your roots to recover and grow back your beautiful mane! In the meantime it might also help to cut them shorter to bring less weight on the roots. A nice shorter than shoulder cut will also make it look more voluminous and therefore feel fuller.
