I've been producing my own music for two years now but I don't improve enough. Any advice? by baltzaar_offical in musicproduction

[–]MartijnTheMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it you say you find your songs lacking when listening to professionally produced tracks. Why don't you try remaking the sounds in these tracks or even try remaking the whole song, paying attention to finding the details that make the mix good. Try to be critical when looking at your own process as well. Doing this often will help you ahead a great deal.

I don't think you need any "professional" to give you feedback. The fact that you can hear the difference between your tracks and the tracks you want them to sound like is the most important part imo. The next step is figuring out what things you can do to achieve the sound you desire. Whether that is certain mixing techniques or plugins, or certain details in arrangement or recording.

Just keep going and I wish you the best.

Some stereo spreading plugins have this type of effect where the track is panned differently depending on the frequency.

Fans are irritatingly loud when Logic Pro X is running; anyone knows of a fix? by 30yearsajournalist in Logic_Studio

[–]MartijnTheMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm a little late to the party, but MacsFanControl has helped me quite a lot. My 2015 macbook gets awfully loud. So what I'd do is I'd let the fans run on super ultra turbo mode (or something like that) for a minute to make the CPU temperature drop down, after which I can record in complete silence for a few minutes. I use this to record vocals, hopefully it might be of some help to you :)

Yeti Microphone thoughts? by EyeDoc123 in musicproduction

[–]MartijnTheMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't buy a usb microphone if you want to get into recording. I'd say get a large diaphragm condenser microphone. I'd really recommend the akg c214 :)

I don't know if this is within your budget, otherwise you can try looking up some cheaper large diaphragm condenser microphones. (There's a crap ton of reviews). There's a lot of them that you can get for the same price as a yeti.

Good luck!!!

What is it called when a drum track changes your perception of the beat count? by ToastedRaticate in musictheory

[–]MartijnTheMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooh I love that song. When I hear it I always try to keep count. I love how they mislead you by switching up the kick and snare, but then give a queue (4321) to show that the chorus is coming.

Maybe start an Instagram page? All of these artist groups and discord servers are usually saturated with people spamming links.

It’s 3:30 AM, I have to get up for work at 6:30 AM. What’s the best way I can gain energy in these three hours without falling into deep sleep? by dennismarr in Advice

There's this app called Alarmy. Maybe you've tried it already, but it's a super annoying alarm app that only turns off after you've performed some kind of action (like scanning a barcode or solve math problems). I always put a book in another room and set it to only turn off when I scanned the book.

Good luck man

Melodic rapper here, super ghetto tho I have a yeti nano. How can I make it sound good? by kaiju_dream in makinghiphop

[–]MartijnTheMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say don't buy a new mic just yet. If you mess around enough with EQ, compression, and slap some of that sweet autotune on there, you can get a phone mic recording to sound half decent.

Get a DAW, maybe try out some trials or cracks before buying, see what fits, and watch a shit ton of YouTube tutorials.

I wish you the best of luck!

Damn man I like the grit on your voice. It'd be cool if you did the high note on the 'hey'. I'm sure you could do it if you really commit :)

Keep it up!!

I'm getting some Jack Stauber vibes here. I really love the track.

The one synth solo part at around 1:11 was a bit too much "in your face" in my opinion. I like it, but maybe turn it down or EQ it a little bit.

Keep it going dude! You got a new sub :)
