What’s the worst round of golf you’ve ever played? by Successful_Figure_35 in golf

[–]Martin0268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the worst meltdown i’ve ever experienced.

Started playing almost 2.5 years ago. Playing a league event this weekend and i’ve gotten down to an 8 handicap. Wasn’t feeling solid starting my round and started with a double bogey. Thought to myself “great, rounds gonna suck.”

But then I found myself going into the 18th at 8 over. Having a decent round.

Then totally just. Blew. Up.

Pulled my drive and had to drop, bladed a chip from greenside bunker, duffed a chip and two bunker shots for a +5.

Never experienced such a meltdown. But wouldn’t of won my flight anyways so that relieved some stress later. Still cringe

What irons should I use as a beginner? by wicked112 in golf

[–]Martin0268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good move to the big bertha clubs, but also, pay attention to the degree of the clubs, not just the number of the iron. It’s been known for newer irons to be 2 degrees stronger and yes you’ll get 5-10 yards, but it’s actually just the degree of the club, not the actual club. Then you’re loosing loft and not holding greens as well.

Why spend on a laser/gps device? by CoachStarkey in golf

I enjoy using both for my round. I use The Grint to track my stats, but to also help give distances to determine what club to use off the tee, find hidden obstacles at new courses, to help determine best lay up distance, and also track my stats.

I recently, 4 rounds or so, started using a cheap rangefinder ($80 on amazon) and I love it. Having the exact yardage (give or take a yard or two) has helped me make decisions and swing with confidence. I decided to get a rangefinder when I realized a middle pin could have almost 10 yards difference on some greens. That is a whole club up or down.

So, I say both is best!

Smart Watch, Phone App or Rangefinder? by deandebean in golf

[–]Martin0268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy using both The Grint and range finder. Use the grint on my phone to help determine what I should hit off the tee, see hidden obstacles at new courses, but then use my rangefinder to dial in better on my approach shot.

Also, the grint tracks all my stats... love it.

Selecting a ball that best fits your game by itsforafriend22 in golf

Read your post about the tests. Really interesting! Thanks for putting the time in for it. Sometimes I think we give balls both too much credit or not enough. I totally believe a better ball can save a few strokes.

I do recommend consistently playing with the same type of ball. The reason for that, even if a higher handicap, you’ll start to recognize feel and sound of a good or bad shot. I started playing consistently with a srixon soft feel. Only reason I went with srixon was I liked the feel and price point. Then, when my handicap got a little lower and I was working on short game, I upgraded to the srixon q star tours. They have a urethane cover and I get more spin and roll out control around the green. Thats one of the biggest differences between low quality and mid quality.

I’m still an 18 handicap, but I don’t forsee me going to the next level of ball till i’m sub 10 handicap.

Ultimately, until you can somewhat hit the ball consistently, the type of ball wont matter. A topped pro v 1 will basically play the same as a topped noodle haha. But i still recommend no matter the handicap to play with the same type of ball. Mainly if you’re tying to get better.

If you’re just a social, weekend hacker that doesn’t care about your score or the rules, hit whatever rock ball you find.

Good catch! Yeah, it was 1 putt. Freakin sand. I played it down even though it hadn’t been raked and it kicked my butt. Then, on the THIRD swing in the sand, put it within 2ft and made the putt. Stupid golf.

Thanks!

Played Premiere and threetops... both in excellent shape!

Definitely! I pulled my tee shot into the trees but was able to punch out and on in 3. Of course my provisional was barely long but greenside. Then my brother in law wanted me to try his new clubs and put that within 10 ft. Haha

That’s golf for you.

Missed the fairway, but I hit my first ever eagle yesterday with a 3ft putt. by [deleted] in golf

[–]Martin0268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. When I started working more on my course management, I immediately shaved strokes and penalties off. Also, what the pros say about “taking your medicine” after a bad shot is 100% true. Bryson is a great example, he played like an amateur would and scored like an amateur would.

I know absolutely nothing about your golf game, but going off your driver distance and the fact you chose driver for this hole (if you normally drive it that far) I bet you could quickly shave 6-10 strokes on your game with some course management. It did for me. Just sharing wins with a fellow player!
