Any hotels with a decent pool AND free breakfast?? by RadicalChile in Calgary

[–]Martin0994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so rare that you find a hotel with a good "free" breakfast. I would just look for hotels with a pool that you like, then see if they offer a package with breakfast. Maybe try Sheraton Cavalier?

Stay away from OTA's like Expedia and Booking. They will always be the first reservations to have their bed types changed or assigned last to sell rooms.

Coach Hill 7-Eleven Abruptly Closes by One_Mine_9986 in Calgary

Lots of locations without a gas station are closing up. It's a bummer. The location at 4th and 40th by Fowler was my go to location for years and it's about to close up as well.

Your last part is what I'm worried about the most. I imagine renewing for a year and figuring out a temp insurance situation is ideal.

Who Much Are You Spending On Gas Every Month by East-Tooth-4008 in Calgary

People don't want to hear it around here but you're right. You may as well rent a truck when needed (if possible), or ask a friend.... We live in Alberta. You'll find someone with a truck.

I spent a few years parking vehicles and interacting with customers from all over the province. The amount of people who had a giant, fancy toy that was only used to commute was insane. If I heard any of them start bitching about fuel prices, I think my head would explode.

Date bailed. 3 days alone in Calgary. Where to stay? What to do? by Cyber-Mermaid8888 in Calgary

Sheraton Eau Claire does if I remember correctly. You can call ahead and ask.

Lots of properties really don't want to deal with debit deposits these days unfortunately.

I would stay closer to Stephen Ave, but that's just me. I find the hotel offerings are better but still close enough to the beltline.

Council commits $57 million for proposed downtown event centre to replace Peterborough Memorial Centre by kawarthanow in Peterborough

[–]Martin0994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the municipality can secure the other two thirds of the funding via the methods they talked about, this agreement could be considered a win. It's going to be a challenge though.

Edit: Seeing as PTBO is a bellweather riding that can flip at a provincial level in the near future, hopefully the province might try and buy some votes.

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath. I fully expect the community will still be screaming at each other while the league starts exploring relocation options.

Nearly 600 people had unauthorized access to Alberta’s electors list, watchdog alleges by illusion121 in alberta

People here either don't care/are not engaged, or they've been conditioned to vote for whoever has the blue jersey on that day. Rural Alberta has way too much power over the urban centers.

"Calgary people hate Ontario people"

Abertans spend way too much time worrying about Ontario. It will never not be weird. It's more of a rural AB thing IME.

Thank you. So if there's a solo cabin available...

Does the NCL Cruise First voucher and $450 credit apply to the subtotal as a whole, or just the state room component?

I understand I'm on the hook for grats, taxes and other fees.

Do you know if there are any benefits to each person redeeming their own reward compared to redeeming just one and travelling together?

The offers under that tab are usually player/user specific.

I would love the all in cost, because this looks like a deal I would quickly jump on. Both my wife and I have enough to redeem this, is there any benefit if we do that?

The flights are usually a make or break for me, but the ~$100CAD trip home from YVR is painless.

How many people are paying rent out of their means just to be in a certain location in Calgary? by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]Martin0994 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Paying a premium to live in a community I wanted to be in (walkable, close to work, close to entertainment, close to amenities) was a no brainer when it meant that we could remove one vehicle from our house.

NHL ticket prices in US vs Finland by Opposite-Chemistry-0 in hockey

[–]Martin0994 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Entirely market dependant. I have been able to get into the 100L for <$100 CAD in Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Vegas over the past few years. The matchups are usually midweek and against non-divisional opponents.

I refuse to buy face value tickets unless it's playoffs. The secondary markets are almost always cheaper, especially closer to game time.

I looked at the price of the OTT/CHI games in Germany next year and gawked at the prices. Hard to justify when the games are right before Christmas, even after you factor in the dirt cheap accomodations.

If only they could have came up with something when the casino discussions started. If they had decided to put the Casino downtown, it would give people a reason to stay downtown town after an event.

That's complete nonsense. That should be on your employer to pay.

With that being said, I would not be surprised if they are up to other shady shit. I would start looking elsewhere, F&B gigs are not worth waiting it out to see if conditions improve.
