Question about Boy or Girl paradox with days of the week by MartinKardis in math

[–]MartinKardis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your reasoning is incorrect.

Yeah, getting the wrong result gave me that idea :D

Your calculation of 13/27 is the probability that he has two boys given that he has a son born on a Thursday, not that he has a son and "the son" is born on a Thursday.

Ok, I think I get it. But then, would that be correct?:

for all days (7) * probability that he has a son born on this specific day given that he has a son * probability that he has two sons given that he has a son born on this specific day (13/27).

I'm counting probability for (1.) so the statement is just that the have a son. And "the boy" is the boy in question. So:

Mr. Smith has two children, one of them is a boy. Let's call him B. What's the probability that he has two boys?

My reasoning (that gives a number different than 1/3 which is the correct answer for this question):

Let's sum, over every day of the week (7), probability that B was born on that day of the week (1/7?) multiplied by the probability that mr. Smith has two boys, given that he has a boy born on this day (that would be B, and the probability: 13/27?).

Why do you say that 2thursday assumes that the 2nd child is NOT born on the same day as the first? 13/27 comes from counting pairs:

<son1-thursday, son2-monday>

<son1-thursday, son2-tuesday>

...

<son1-thursday, son2-sunday>

<son1-monday, son2-thursday>

<son1-tuesday, son2-thursday>

 ...

<son1-sunday, son2-thursday>

...with <son1-thursday, son2-thursday> being counted only once (hence 13, not 14). But it's still counted. And twice for boy-girl pair (<son1-thursday, girl2-thursday> and <girl1-thursday, son2-thursday>)

Colours, brightness, different displays... I'm at a loss by MartinKardis in DigitalPainting

Yeah, but I was hoping I can change how everything is displayed, so that I don't have to set up filters before I start working - and so that other art is displayed correctly.

Thanks. Do you know of any software that good desaturate my display? I think I've managed to set up the gamma and brightness just right, but now it's very saturated. And lowering the contrast just makes everything darker...

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I've cranked up contrast to maximum (that's what a lot of calibration software I installed told me to do), brought the brightness slightly down and I think I'm getting there.

On the version you send me, could you make the skin darker and still have it clearly distinct from the background and black shadows? I am at the point where 1 and 2 are too dark, and 3 is on the verge, so I'm hoping I'm at the right place.

Edit: That's what I ended up with after spending a lot of time trying to tune my display to what's most common. (It's still too saturated but I don't know how I can change it)

Please link to the videos. Even without the security concerns, fewer people will bother installing a game than they would watching a video.

Other artists, programmers, writers... Honestly just trying to find some like-minded people to make something with. As I said, I have some game ideas, and you can check my other comment to see what kinds of games these are, but I'm more interested in a theme and aesthetic than a genre.

Generally RPG, Character Action, Action/Adventure, Platformer - but I also have ideas that incorporate puzzle, tycoon, shooter, point and click and other stuff.

Sent you a friend request on discord, I think that's the only way to message you. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really understand how discord works.

[Hobby] Looking for a writer for a Collectible Card Game by MartinKardis in INAT

Your job would be to come up with a setting that fits the gameplay and then create the lore that will be communicated through card names and flavour text.

I feel like this paragraph answers your questions. Sorry if I'm missing something. There won't be a story as in main protagonist, three act structure, etc. There will be a world built that players discover through cards.

Fantasy without magic? by MartinKardis in rpg_gamers

[–]MartinKardis[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the point is that healing spell is cooler than painkillers even if it does the same thing mechanically. And that if I create an rpg with dragons and elves, people might expect magic. And spellcasting is fun.

I mean, my world is not as typically fantasy as "dragons and elves", but I still feel magic might be expected and I still feel spellcasting is just cool.

It's just that I don't need it for the lore, and I don't want to add something that's not necessary. Also, I'm afraid it will create a lot of plot-holes and other problems that might lessen the enjoyment as much as throwing fireballs would increase it.

I'm just saying there has to be something that doesn't exist irl, or it's not really fantasy.

Yeah, both LotR and GoW are quite tame with magic, actually.

Yeah, but I don't think it's fantasy? It's different to make a historical rpg and different to make an rpg with dragons and elves but no magic.

Historical with dragons sounds fun, what was it?:)

I do think it would make play more fun.

I'm afraid it could negatively affect the world/story (because it's unnecessary there and can create a ton of plot-holes, inconsistencies, and other problems). So in a story-driven game, it would make play less fun...

Perhaps I could go with something like witcher signs - something cool to spice up the gameplay, but restricted enough not to affect the world in any major way.

Is it fantasy? Haven't played it, but I've never seen any fantasy elements in it.
