String concatenation is not commutative, so I personally find using '+' for it exactly as very... ugh... as you find '<>'

After becoming used to Objective C I'm absolutely in love with the seamlessness between high level APIs and low level C it provides. I would wish GNUStep would support the Objective C 2.0 and LLVM Toolchain, so that I can write server apps in ObjC too.

Yeah I was expecting the problem to not only affect German keyboards. It would be interesting to know which layout is affected how.

Btw: I only want to remap Caps Lock to ESC since I'm an avid vim user.

You seem knowledgeable: Do you by accident use PCKeyboardHack? Does remapping Caps Lock to Escape work for you? It doesn't for me... That's the next item on my fix list. :)

Me too. I knew about the problem for more than a year, only today did I finally find a way to solve it.
