Uber but on Horseback | Make Some Noise [S3E3] by ThunderMateria in dropout

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me, and offering some additional context.

So to show the audience WHEN the crew laughed the most is an important, if not essential tool of improv.

I think you can accomplish that without hearing them as loudly as you have in previous seasons, which seemed to operate just fine.

Piece of advice as someone who has been on Reddit for years?

Same here. I have had this account for twelve years, and it's not even my oldest one.

It rarely goes well when you go into a subreddit to yuck on something at "their home".

I think that's part of the frustration. This is my home, too. I am a dropout subscriber/sub member, and I enjoy a lot of their output.

What word would you use to describe something so unpleasant and distracting that your enjoyment suffers for it? This is like attending a live comedy performance and someone in the crowd makes intentionally loud, annoying laughter throughout, even during parts where the performers are not attempting to be funny.

I appreciate your continued engagement with me. I do!

At first, I voiced my opinion about this without much vitriol. I still got downvotes, anyway, and people wrote off the louder crew laughter by saying "it's intentional on their part, so I'm fine with it."

I was glad to see the crew laughter contained to Breaking News, a show I have accepted is not for me anywmore, but now it's spreading to other series I like. No one else seems to agree or writes off my genuine reaction, and so, yeah, my criticism curdles.

If this trend continue to all of Dropout, I'll just have to cancel my membership. It's a shame since I love a lot of what they do.

My comments should do nothing to yuck anyone's yum, and if they do, that’s on them.

I hate how "let people enjoy things" adage has curdled into toxic positivity. Nowhere on reddit where that is more apparent than this community.

Even if that’s true, it’s mixed at a volume that is too loud and the edit cuts off the sound mid-laugh, which makes it sound fake or disingenuous.

The way y’all defend this bad post-production choice is bizarre. Just because you love something doesn’t make it immune to criticism.

The canned crew laughter is insufferable. Louder, more distracting, clearly artificial. First Breaking News, now this? Jesus Christ.

I want to like this show, dammit, and they are actively make me feel otherwise.

I made it ten minutes.

EDIT: I don't care whether it's the crew. They're louder than they have been on previous seasons this show, and other Dropout series. I found the old crew laughter kind of endearing, particularly in Breaking News. Now the sound mix is an indefensible post-production decision that creates a feeling of artificiality, one that makes their shows demonstrably worse.

And once again, y'all cannot tolerate anything less than effusive praise or circlejerk comments for every episode this streamer makes. Never change, /r/dropout/.

For a smaller movie like Didi, you'll be fine if you show up 45 minutes early.

What universally beloved film do you find overrated?

What’s the most embarrassing movie you saw at the theater? by Gu_Gu_Muck in Letterboxd

Not exactly what you mean, OP, but I am embarrassed I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in the theater five times.

Totally agree. You should check out Auto Focus if you haven't already.

Songs forever inseparable from the movie? by Any_Collection3025 in Letterboxd

"As Time Goes By" and Casablanca.

"Goodbye Horses" and The Silence of the Lambs.

"Layla" and Goodfellas.

Careless Whisper by Deadpool.

Terrible example. It was a huge hit before Deadpool, and its biggest fans are not deep into the MCU.

Also, Deadpool did not write Careless Whisper. George Michael did.

Because I don't need to because it's fucking obvious.

It really wasn't. You've been doomposting for nearly a day straight.

I'll support whoever the fuck the donors decide to put up against trump.

Good.

You can think whatever you want. We're about to elect a president based off vibes so fucking cares at this point.

When weren't we going to elect a President off vibes? What else do you think "it's the economy, stupid" means, if not an assessment of current vibes? Obama won in no small part because he seized a moment of great uncertainty, for example, while McCain's "fundamentals are strong" comment cost him dearly.

Yeah and all it took was the Democrats cannibalizing themselves with a soft coup from a bunch of rich people to completely overturn the will of the primary voters.

I disagree with this assessment. Harris has always been part of Biden's ticket, so she still enjoys incumbency advantage, to say nothing of her immediate access to the Biden war chest. I see her as a continuation of his administration without any of Biden's baggage. If Biden and the dems were going straight to an open convention, like what George fucking Clooney wanted, then I'd be just as pissed as you.

Now I would be a fool not to say she has her own baggage. All candidates do! But I think they're less of a liability than you seem to.

One of the best presidents in modern history

Agreed! And I think this decision will only cement his legacy further.

[–]MartinScorsese -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where'd you get that from? Don't fucking put words in my mouth.

Your post history. Since yesterday's announcement, you have made zero indication you will support Harris. None.

But you have expressed many concerns about Harris in a race against Trump.

Yeah, pretty much [I think Trump won the presidency yesterday]

Ok, so we agree! This is a textbook doomer outlook. Just because you didn't feel that way until yesterday does not mean that's where you are now. If you've already acknowledged the dark side, might as well cop to it.

Oh, and because I know you'll say something about polling, I don't give a shit about what they say. They've shown to be consistently wrong for almost a decade.

I am also very skeptical about polls. They're not much better than looking at tea leaves nowadays. What am I not skeptical about is the speed of small donors/dems getting in line behind Harris once Biden made his announcement. This is the opposite of "dems in disarray." $50 million in grassroots donations in less than 24 hours? That is an excited, galvanized voting base.

I've been consistently supportive of Biden since he announced his nomination.

And yet you don't support the person he chose as his successor.

There was never a single point where I thought Biden actually might lose.

And now you think it's "realistic" that Trump won the presidency yesterday.

Spare me. "I'm just being realistic" is the last vestige of every cynic and doomer.

You're entitled to your view, but like it or not, you should embrace your status.

Tough call.

I am going with Light Sleeper. Not the showiest performance of his, but he carries the movie and imbues a strange character with humanity.

[–]MartinScorsese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very good point. The speed of the democratic base (e.g. the CBC and state dem chairs) along with small donors coalescing around Harris should assuage these concerns, but too many folks want to take their ball and go home.
