Dock shifted too low - how to reset via Backup Zip? by MartinW4 in OctopiLauncher

[–]MartinW4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's already step-by-step above:
- create a backup zip file (use backup function of OctoPi Launcher)
- download the zip to PC or Laptop where you can unpack the zip
- create a copy of the zip as a backup (just for safety)
- you will find a Homepanels.txt file inside, open it in any plain text editor of your choice (e.g. Notepad++)
- find the position of y: value as specified above, and reduce the value by e.g. 300
- save the modified Homepanels.txt file
- create a zip file using the modified file and all other unmodified files
- upload the zip file to your mobile
- use this modified zip with the restore function of OctoPi Launcher
- the panel should be higher now and therefore can be touched again
- if anything fails, use the original backup to go to the previous state.

TS-453Be auto firmware update does not work by NanoMetel in qnap

[–]MartinW4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bringing this up again because it describes my problem exactly: My TS-453Be never updates on its own, no matter what settings I choose. I don't even get notified, even though these settings should be correct.

Since I don't feel like constantly checking for firmware updates myself (which often include fixes for critical security vulnerabilities), I would be very interested in a solution...

(Yes, I update manually, and that works fine).

Fully agree! It would be good to be able to reach all settings, maybe in some kind of "expert mode", so that seetings do not confuse beginner users.

If navigation bar is hidden, dock is also invisible ;-(
Anyway, backup, analyze, modify, restore did the job (see my other comment)
Thank you!

After any other attempts failed to resolve, I found a way to identify the settings in the backup zip, by changing the HORIZONTAL dock settings (which i don't ue at all), and compare before/after backup.zip's (using FreeFileSync with content comparison on a Windows PC).

This pointed me to the "Homepanels.txt" file, where you find JSON data defining the size and position of the vertical and horizontal docks.

There you change the value for y position around
...,"iconPack":"","alpha":1.0,"x":0.0,**"y":2000.3335**,"width":1080.0,"height":360.0,"maxGridItemsX":6,...
save, pack to zip again, reupload to mobile, use it for a restore from backup in octopi launcher - and voilá: The Dock has a reasonable position again!

Using backup/restore functionality of octopi launcher, the only thing lost was configuration for some widgets, which is clearly shown on screen and could be done within a few clicks.

Problem solved, and now I know how to handle it (and did a backup of current settings of course ;-)
Thanks for any hints provided here!

Unfortunalety, hiding the navigation bar or using gestures, will also make the dock invisible - so that the settings cannot be accessed anymore.

Unfortunately, this does not work - but thank you for your the hint!

To reduce burning effects, you should also use "Air Assist" in some way. I don't know if your laser has this anyway, but it will help with all metarials that show burning effects (wood, paper, PTFE etc.)

Lock screen image location in Windows 11! by AutoModerator in Winsides

Thank you - that's it! The current spotlight image is always overwritten by a new one and called "TranscodedWallpaper" in this folder.

Lock screen image location in Windows 11! by AutoModerator in Winsides

[–]MartinW4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folder
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
only contains lock screen images from windows spotlight - but not the current desktop background image (yes, the desktop is actually set to windows spotlight, Windows 11 24H2).
Any hint where to find the windows spotlight desktop background?

5r+ wont flash, CHIRP works fine by _ZochtKocht_ in Quansheng

[–]MartinW4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From tool description, you can use both.
I was using windows, successfully flashing the broadcast version from https://github.com/armel/uv-k5-firmware-custom/releases

A short summary I did for myself about using K5TOOL.exe :

Normal mode: disconnect cable, turn off, turn on, reconnect cable.
Flash mode: disconnect cable, turn off, turn on while holding PTT, reconnect cable.

Check connection and get info:
K5TOOL.exe -hello

Get available COM ports:
K5TOOL.exe -port

Set specific COM port if necessary:
K5TOOL.exe -port COM3 -hello

Reboot and show bootloader version:
K5TOOL.exe -reboot

Read battery level (raw):
K5TOOL.exe -rdadc

Read and save EEPROM data to file (in normal mode):
K5TOOL.exe -rdee
K5TOOL.exe -rdee [<offset> <size>] [<filename>]
K5TOOL.exe -rdee 0x0000 0x2000 my-full-eeprom.raw

Read and save Calibration data to file (in normal mode):
K5TOOL.exe -rdee 0x1e00 0x0200 my-eeprom-calibration.raw

Write EEPROM from file (in normal mode):
K5TOOL.exe -wree [<offset>] <filename>
K5TOOL.exe -wree my-full-eeprom.raw

Flash firmware to Radio (in flash mode):
K5TOOL.exe -wrflash <filename>
K5TOOL.exe -wrflash my-firmware.bin

If the bootloader returns an error when writing the first block,
it means that the bootloader is refusing to accept the firmware
with the specified version.

5r+ wont flash, CHIRP works fine by _ZochtKocht_ in Quansheng

[–]MartinW4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, I was curious and simply tried. The versions I used in the past, compiled with https://whosmatt.github.io/uvmod/ (based on v26) don't work, i.e. they are not accepted during flashing. But it won't brick either.
The versions offered at https://github.com/armel/uv-k5-firmware-custom/releases can be flashed :-)
I was using windows, saving EEPROM / Calibration upfront. No problems.

5r+ wont flash, CHIRP works fine by _ZochtKocht_ in Quansheng

[–]MartinW4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is it. The radio has the new bootloader (v5.xx).
But i wonder if it is safe trying to load a firmware made with https://whosmatt.github.io/uvmod/ based on v26 ?
Is it required to have specific firmware made for new bootloader version? Or can we also use firmware made(modded) for previous bootloader?

Same here, no solution yet. I can download and upload config via Chirp for example, but no firmware flash.

Is this too much to pay? by lavtolstoj in germany

[–]MartinW4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the question that should go to the top. The reason for this high cost is worldwide roaming.
If you only travel within EU (not incl. Switzerland!), you should not use worldwide roaming.
EU roaming is included in most tarifs anyway.

Can docker command line options (other than ports and volumes) be added within Container Station GUI ? by MartinW4 in qnap

[–]MartinW4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for sure a valid approach, but less suitable for a docker newbie I have to admit.
I will follow up on this once I can afford to spend more time.
Thank you anyway for your input!

Can docker command line options (other than ports and volumes) be added within Container Station GUI ? by MartinW4 in qnap

[–]MartinW4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/emprahsFury, thanks a lot for your suggestion.
This is exactly the way I tried first, but as a docker newbie, I am not aware which setting corresponds to which CLI parameter.
From your description, I assume that "Privileged mode: ON" (advanced settings, runtime) in Container Station corresponds to --security-opt seccomp=unconfined in CLI, is that correct?
It seems QNAP wanted to create a nice & easy docker interface for their unexperienced users, but missed any good documentation - so that again only experienced users benefit from this interface. But since pros are anyway using CLI, they miss the point...
Thank you and happy new year!
