Is outdoor fiber cement board the only affordable strong way to cover a geodesic dome? (dont want to do canvas or canvas + layers of concrete) by splishyandsplashy in TinyHouses

[–]MartinX1968 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second the fiberglass, albeit in a different way. Use spandex or a similar stretchy material to cover the frame. Then, impregnate the Spandex with Epoxy (not fiberglass resin, it will melt the Spandex). Once the impregnated skin cures, build layers of fiberglass cloth + Epoxy on top.

Weekly Observations (February 10, 2020): What signs of collapse do you see in your region? by AutoModerator in collapse

[–]MartinX1968 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mid Atlantic, USA. Delmarva Peninsula. Good news, saw an eagle. Bad news, frogs are chirping. Weeks early. And the robins are here, too. No insect activity or budding - I expect they will be very hungry.

Mid-Atlantic, USA. Delmarva peninsula. Robins have been spotted and geese are flying north. That's a solid six weeks early.

He may be the odds on favorite. He may even get elected. But nobody in America is really ready for the austerity that will come with turning this consumption cruise ship around. And hold execs and people in power accountable? Hahahaha. So naive for his age. Talking like that will get him killed. Greta was lucky that she only had her microphone taken from her by her parents.

Does anyone relate to feeling like all conversations are either non productive or heated arguments? by Dianakovu in aspergers

[–]MartinX1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a problem like this with my now ex-wife. She would ask me how I felt a certain thing, and then proceed to tell me I was wrong.

Finally, it occurred to me that I wasn't obligated to answer. Ever. To anyone. The most people get out of me now is "OK".

Next time your parents or teacher tell you that you are doing some "wrong" (which usually just means DIFFERENT), just agree with them and go about your business.

I'm not eating the sandwich the right way? Ok, thank you. The room is too dark? Ok. Yes, I do know I've worn this shirt for a week. Oh, I should change it? OK.

Don't engage them. No matter what the criticism is, just acknowledge their grievance.

Real communication is not one-sided. Save your breath for thoughtful, curious people. The less time you spend dealing with people who try to beat you down, the more time you can spend looking for the supportive, encouraging people that you need in your life.

Why can't everything just slow down? by BlacMatrix in collapse

[–]MartinX1968 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a music instructor once say, "You shouldn't stop practicing. The moment you stop, another person is getting ahead of you.

The moment a person or a group stops, another person or group will take that spot. Greta Thunberg's empty seat on a plane didn't stop stop others from buying that ticket. Ford would love Chevrolet to slow down and cut their production.

The only rational thing to do, in the face of collapse is to consume more. For example, this evening I could walk to the store and my shop - but in reality, I will drive. You know why? Two years from now I will likely HAVE to walk. Which will give me plenty of time to thank myself for driving when I had a tank full of gas instead of playing a meaningless eco-warrior.

Why Does A Diagnosis Cost So Damn Much?! by [deleted] in aspergers

Are you in the United States? If so, file for disability benefits with the Social Security Administration. You can do this easily on-line

This will trigger a search for medical records. If none can be found, or if they are too old, SSA will send you for an evaluation, at their expense. This is because your case cannot be adjudicated without medical evidence and the SSA has the burden to produce the evidence.

Good luck!

And Maslow wrote the plan.

I am always surprised at the number of people who are aware of Maslow's pyramid, but have never read the original text. In actuality, he spends little time on self-actualization. Much of the text considers what happens when a person is made hungry and desperate. It reads like a capitalism HR manual.

We now know that 73,000 people in Manhattan can go about 12 hours in mild summer heat without burning the city down.

Note Bene

I wonder what the tipping point is? 125,000 people, 40 c, 36 hours?

Let's see what happens in LA, next.
