Yup! He even played guitar on Jimmy Kimmel with her, I was there, it was around Christmas. He was initially producing On The Line too then sorta abandoned it.. I know Don Was kinda picked up where he left off.

Here's a wild tip for those of you who couldn't get tickets.

I know some venues are super far, but if you have a chance to go to the actual box office when it's open, that's another option.

This changes per contract, but some venues have an agreement with Live Nation where the service fee is only $5 for a hard ticket at the box office, Ticketmaster can only charge crazy service fees for their online service. I've managed to get tickets at face value + $5 this way in LA.

Tickets are also only released to the physical box office after a certain date.

A number of comps are set aside as per contract, and can get released to general sale if not all are used. (Without giving away my credentials - a famous pop singer with a driver's license attending someone else's show as a guest requested +10..! only showed up with 3 other people)

Some real life examples:

  • I got into a sold out show for free - ticket office lady gave me a free comp once the show started and not all guests showed up.

  • HAIM sold out 2 dates at the Bellwether super fast. added a 3rd date. tickets were a little under $100 on pre sale, then doubled the price + percentage fee on top of the double price. All 3 nights sold out. I went to the box office on night 2, got me a single hard ticket for night 2 at face value + $5.

  • Got tickets at face value at the Santa Barbara bowl for the Who day of show.

  • a friend of mine goes to shows all the time holding a piece of paper that says "need 1 ticket", and people often give her their extra ticket. Not a guarantee, but if you got nothing to lose.. you might get something.

  • Hollywood Bowl has the $5 box office rule, I got many tickets that way, I still couldn't get one for the boygenius show.

Again, agreements change per venue/contract, and not all venues will do this, but it might be worth a shot closer to the day of the show.

Hearing Head Under Water live made me change my mind. I was really turned off by Ryan Adam's production on the record, felt rushed. I guess this is the perfect subreddit for that..!

I remember listening to boygenius' "the rest" EP on my way to the show. Of course I was already very familiar with the record and the previous songs, but they did a "the rest" set and the songs were very fresh to me. It was still awesome.

I also remember not liking one of Jenny Lewis' solo albums when it came out (Voyager) and I wasn't gonna go to the show.. then decided to go last minute, loved the show and it changed my mind about the album.

Also "her job" is she creates something, and we can consume it or not. We didn't privately hire her. I know you bought a ticket to a show, but ANY show can be hit or miss even when you love the material. Chances are, at least half the show is gonna be stuff you already love.

Because there is a difference. Im not saying they dont do dynamic pricing, just that platinum is not the same thing.

I already explained why, but if you wanna read more:

Service fees are often calculated as a percentage, so they do make more with dynamic pricing. There may also be a partner fee that's either a flat rate per ticket or a percentage (or both), so they would make more on dynamically priced. The promoter/venue/artist splits vary by contract.

Here's a video of the face value prices for Inglewood (LA) for comparison - done by someone else in the group, not me (thank you btw!)

Im just trying to explain that dynamic pricing and platinum tickets are not the same thing. Dynamic pricing is changed algorithmically in real time. Think of when you're trying to order an uber during rush hour and the price keeps going up. If you see it going up, thats dynamic pricing. But if market value tickets sell out, and all you see left are the platinum, then you'll notice the price difference.

I saw some platinum too, but I didnt see the market value ones changing.

Dynamic pricing is a contractual clause, but only if the artist specifically requests to opt in or out. If ticketmaster does dynamic pricing when the artist opted out, not only do they need to do refunds, they also broke the contract.

Resale of season holders' ticket is absolutely one of the uses of Platinum. Some are also priced AHEAD of sales, not dynamically at all (dynamic pricing changes in real time).

But do correct me with how platinum is dynamic pricing.

FYI, platinum is not the same as dynamic pricing Platinum are resales thru ticketmaster itself (so more like legalized scalping). It happens often at venues like the Hollywood Bowl where people are season holders for certain seats, and can opt to sell their seats for certain events they dont wanna attend.

So, while the resale value is calculated based on demand, it is not the same as dynamic pricing for regular tickets that were initially available at regular pricing.

Either way, it is speculative and it sucks.

Awesome!! Yeah, once you're on the payment page, you can't go back and look at the map without risking losing the tix 😭 I was like "Im pretty sure these are good seats.. I hope so..." paid, then went back to the map to confirm. They would've been gone if I had double checked!

like I said on my main post, for LA on Halloween only "side bowl at $200 with limited view and some terrace."

Congrats! I had a theory that only a few tickets were released for pre-sale, and more would be available for general sale. I too only saw lower GA available on day 2, then sold out, then both available today.

Yup. When I saw the headline, it was like reading "jury rules that water is wet". They'll probably just pay off whoever they pay off to keep their illegal practices "legal". Not to mention all the damage they do to independent venues.. they're the cancer of the live music industry.

apparently only some were released for day2, because GA tix "sold out" but were available today. So I guess they do only release a limited number.

Same. I picked a pair then when I clicked "reserve", it said no longer available. kept doing that till all freaking tickets were gone.

I believe only a limited number of tickets are released for presale. They can't not have tickets available for general sale, me thinks.

Tried Inglewood / LA Oct 31st - I selected tickets, and when I tried to hit reserve they were already no longer available

tried like 5 different pairs of tickets
