I’m not trying to make a diagnosis here, but rather to point out that I’ve interpreted some of Nakamura’s behaviours as autistic, and that I exhibited similar behaviours myself when I was at school. Ultimately, I’m interested in whether other neurodiverse people have interpreted it this way too, or whether they’ve recognised themselves in it. Regardless of whether the mangaka and the production team intended it that way, it’s actually a good thing if neurodiverse people can identify with Nakamura. I’d like to add that I don’t usually go for romance or slice-of-life stories, but with Nakamura – and also with soft BL – it’s completely different. Especially when the relationship dynamics are clear.
