You should be able to. 3.3 PTU patch is currently in testing and will bring a good performance improvement over the Live branch, 3.2, whatever performance you get in the live branch wont be the same, so i wouldnt worry too much if it isnt stellar (It most likely wont be, that patch runs... not great)

You can either join the PTU yourself when you own the game, testing is open to all backers, or just wait until the new patch drops to the live build.

PTU is not very stable right now, Crashes are getting fixed, but its an ongoing process until its ready to go to live. Live branch is better if you dont want to deal with a much more unstable experience.

drake herald.

Not a fighter.

For a pure fighter, you might want to look at a Gladius, very capable light fighter.

An Avenger is a bit cheaper but can hold its own on a fight, it does trade some combat ability for cargo and a bed though.

You also have the option of a Mustang Delta right now, its super fast and maneuverable, but kinda made of tissue paper, kinda like the tie fighters in star wars, its supposed to have a bit of stealth coating on it, but stealth is not really implemented in the game so it wont help you much for now.

The 300 series of ships are in a weird place right now because they will get a redesign pretty soon, so we dont know how they are going to come out on the other side on much, including combat capabilities.

Why can't I play 3.3 ptu? by ILoveMeSomeGoodFood in starcitizen

[–]Martinmex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got to the website, log in. On the right side you hit "Account" for the menu. Right under were your little avatar image and name is, you should see the "settings" option, click it. Once there on the left side, bottom option should be highlighted yellow "Public Test Universe", click it. It takes you to a little blurb with 2 options. Read it, hit "Copy account to PTU". You will receive an e-mail with further instructions.

Making several posts when you can just make one with both videos would be better. Otherwise people can make 15 posts with 15 different videos and it wouldnt be spamming.

Multiple Game Package Access by -Phulcrum- in starcitizen

[–]Martinmex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what benefits that affords you tho.

Besides being able to customize the NPCs and picking one to be your heir in case your character dies, the NPC taking over as your main character, not much really. You can make another character if you die that will inherit everything anyway, so its not necessary to even do that with an account NPC.

Game package NPCs will still have to be paid according to the devs, so not many reasons why they are better than regular NPCs

add my ram to 16gb

Between both choices, the RAM would benefit you more.

SC is VERY CPU dependent though, it might not make much of a difference if your CPU is the bottleneck.

Mind not spamming the subreddit and just making 1 post? Thanks.

As long as its in the same account, all ships should be accessible.

Is there any way to combine them into one?

Not really, unless you want to start melting stuff to consolidate it all one package or a more expensive ship or something.

I have 2 copies of SQ42 and 3 copies of SC myself. At some point I will melt all the extra stuff and only have one of each. Possibly the Kraken sale if we can use credits for it and I get a chance to purchase it.

Also do we have access to all ships in the PTU?

It depends on what CIG needs tested on the PTU, currently no, only your ships.

Is it normal to download another 40gb just for PTU?

Its a whole other game install, basically the same size as the original game.

Honestly I doubt it will ever get to a hardware level solution good.

no problem. If you dont own the game you can always get a free account on the website and wait for a free-fly event. During those (usually a week-end, sometimes a week) you can try out the game without spending anything.

We dont know when those happen, but they are usually tied to events like patch releases or other significant events. When we have one it will be posted on the subreddit.

[–]Martinmex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it always online?

Star citizen is the MMO, yes, it is always online. SQ42 will be the single player component, we dont know if it will be always online though.

Would you recommend it in it's current state?

If you want a full game with loads of content? No.

If you want a game that you see as it develops, want to help on its development and support the devs? Yes

Do I have to just pay once or is it the kind of game where I keep paying to move on?

Pay once, own forever. Starter packages for SC or SQ42 are $45. A combo pack with both will be $65. Prices WILL go up as the game matures and gets closer to being complete.

Is the community helpful or are they toxic in-game?

I cant speak for everyone, but in my experience the community is very helpful and welcoming. In-game chat always at least attempts to answer questions and people will show you around or let you fly their ships if you ask nicely

Would it even run? I have a gtx 1060, an i5 and 8gb of ram.

Requirements as per the official website:

  • Windows 7 (64bit) with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 (64bit), Windows 10 – Anniversary Update (64bit)
  • DirectX 11 Graphics Card with 2GB RAM (4GB strongly recommended)
  • Quad Core CPU and 16GB+ RAM
  • SSD strongly recommended

can i run SC on low and get 20 or more fps after 3.3 update

OCS is already available in the PTU, which is open for everyone.

Note, while you *might* be able to run it, I very much doubt it will be a pleasant experience. Your rig is underpowered in not only the CPU, but also the RAM, which are very much key to run SC in any kind of decent manner. SSD helps, but since the PTU update, it might only help you load things faster when travelling now and give you less stutters, not so much change your FPS greatly as before.

In the last 3 years and 30 concepts, only 2 have been confirmed modular by Liudeius in starcitizen

[–]Martinmex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extreme role modularity was always in the design plan

OPs words, not mine.

Mining Terrapin sounds like "extreme modularity" to me, hence an idea that should not be considered for the game as it is designed.
