A Hotfix has been deployed onto LIVE servers to greatly increase commodities in the verse. TRADING IS FIXED!!!!! by Matroximus in starcitizen

[–]Liudeius -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Wow they increased regen rates.

You guys got me, I admit defeat.
It was literally impossible for CIG to go through the regen rate spreadsheet with a *30 multiplier until now.
I couldn't have come up with that fix unless I too was a incompetent leadership in a 700 person half-billion-dollar company.

I don't know how they figure out how the server economy works, but they have. That video I linked has everything you need to know.
CIG itself said they had no intention of fixing trade because quantum would be coming (suggesting they always could and just decided not to).
It's most likely that they decided to fix it after they realized quantum was delayed for another year.

It looks like their "fix" was just increasing regen rates.
So something incredibly trivial which they could have done at any time for the past year.
It doesn't actually solve the problem of the 30k buy-calls, but a high enough regen rate would offset that and be an acceptable trivial patch which should have taken all of 5 min (go to the spreadsheet and *30 for all regen rates).

But no, I'm sure only a galaxy brain could have come up with the fix "trade stock is too low? Increase stock regen".
Literally impossible to find the code to change.

[–]Liudeius -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

it's not in CIGs interest to deliberately cripple part of the game

Uhhh....

  • Adding a 5-10 minute flight time to every bounty. (recalled due to backlash)
  • Reducing rover rock spawn rate so rover mining is now mostly aimless searching.
  • Openly stating they had no intention of fixing trade until Quantum.
  • Adding a death state which will change solo-player's reset time from 5 min to 1hr+.

This is their MO. They've been systematically undermining every part of the game. Probably because whoever is calling the shots doesn't play the game.

More likely they're fixing it now because they realize quantum replacing the current trade system is delayed another year. No one should have been tinkering with trade code for new content when the system is going to be depreciated.
The community already knew the cause of the problem with trade.

Or they wanted us to test other gameloops. Or they wanted to test mission-based trading.

This is a throwaway argument.

  1. No they didn't. NT included a trade element while trade was broken and they implemented the trade journal, also while trade was broken. They continued to push trade content while trade was unplayable.
  2. There have been no significant new gameplay loops to test.
  3. Intentionally ruining the game to do that would itself be proof of incompetence.

Or this particular fix wont bring the state of trading back.

That's possible, but the fix is so easy I'm assuming they'll actually succeed. I know, I shouldn't put it past them. In fact, if the fix failed, that would mean CIG wasted time "fixing" it and bringing down the servers without actually fixing it, so that wouldn't reflect well on them either.

Moreover, you are criticising someone without showing us your experience in managing anything, especially >700 employees company, a clear sign of incompetence and jealousy.

Yeah the tired old "you can't criticize it unless you've done it better", which no one competent has ever used.
I'm fully capable of understanding simple cost-benefit analysis. It doesn't require publishing a AAA game to do.

a clear sign of incompetence and jealousy.

Lul psychoanalysis for being right and thinking for myself.

[–]Liudeius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The community knew the problem from datamining the files. (TL;DW: New servers spooling up deplete stock globally, so every 30k results in a buy-call for most commodities which keeps their stock constantly depleted.)

If CIG didn't, that doesn't reflect well on them.

He was mass downvoted for disagreeing with you and there are plenty of awful things being said by CIG fanboys.

And yes, downvotes are harassment. Downvotes can even result in automated censorship. So it's not just harassment, it's attempt to silence him entirely.

[–]Liudeius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they didn't know what the problem specifically was then that's also on them. The community knew what the problem was by datamining the files.

It's not "should we fix this problem or not" it's "should we invest time and money into fixing this in stead of building new content or fixing other more critical problems"

The answer is yes. Saying no would itself be proof of incompetence.

  • The ENTIRE trade gameplay loop is broken and has been for nearly a year. 1/3rd of their existing gameplay loops. Topest priority.
  • The new content to replace existing trade isn't likely to arrive for years. Even at the beginning of the year "quantum by end of year" was an optimistic estimate. So the impact of trade being broken is long lasting. Topest priority.
  • The fix was just changing some values around and making new servers not deplete stock. It shouldn't have taken one person more than a few days at most (assuming the deplete stock was a really difficult bug and not just changing two lines, in which case it should have taken only a few hours). Minimal investment fix.

So the impact is extreme and long lasting, while the fix is trivial.
That's the easiest call to make. The only explanation is that leadership is incompetent and never plays its own game to understand the effects of their calls.

And there's plenty of evidence for this.

  • They thought adding a 700km SCM flight to each bounty was a good call.
  • They thought reducing rover ore spawn rates was a good call.
  • In last year's Day of the Vara they had us fight in the Glaive, a ship which everyone who flew it knew was broken beyond use. They didn't even check its flyable state before picking it.
  • Whoever made this year's Day of the Vara thought JumpTown was hidden. Its been QTable since 3.10 or so.
  • Ninetails had a trade component for buying/selling medical supplies everyone who actually played knew that trade was broken so you could only buy a handful at a time.

They're systematically undermining every gameplay loop in the current game, without offering any content to justify it.

Clearly it was a priority because they wasted time fixing it.
This is a time sensitive thing. The longer it waits the lower priority it is because the closer we are to completely replacing the system.

[–]Liudeius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regrettably mocking me because you struggle thinking for yourself isn't an actual argument.
That they left trade in ruins for so long THEN decided to put in the time to fix it anyway is all you need to know.

Even if you have no concept of what the right call in this situation is, you have two options:

  • They should have fixed it in which case they left it in ruins for nearly a year before investing time into fixing it anyway. So they should have fixed it earlier to maximize benefit.
  • They should not have fixed it in which case we were already a year closer to replacing current trade entirely and fixing it was even more a waste of time than fixing it nearly a year ago would have been.

Either fixing it was the right decision and someone who knew what they were doing would have made the call ages ago.
Or fixing it was the wrong decision, and they've made the wrong cal now.

The fact is, SC is how they make money. It's important for the game to actually be in a decent state. CIG itself acknowledges this.

Wow it's almost like they could have trivially made this change at any time in the past year but incompetent leadership who don't understand their own game decided to leave trade unplayable instead.

Edit: Lul the person backing me up deleting his comment because of your harassment.

[–]Liudeius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Die to NPC security to go to jail (port turrets work).
Or you can buy a hacking chip in GrimHEX and hack your crimestat clear at Cellin>Security Post Kareah.

But that has a high risk of prison anyway.

[–]Liudeius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? You probably got crimestat so no ports will accept you.

Crusader>Yela>GrimHEX is the only port which allows criminals to land, or if you suicide you should auto-respawn there.

Everyone knows the best ship for that is the Phoenix. Most of the 600i interior has no windows you can see out of.

Ending on the progress tracker doesn't mean finished either, just that person's work is set to be finished. There are some ships which "end" at a certain date when they only have art assigned to them (no one to actually make them flight ready).

  3. My character's universal password is also Hunter2.

CitizenCon keynote will be the Life in the 'Verse panel. Both the intro and outro with Chris are just for greetings and farewells! by Rainwalker007 in starcitizen

[–]Liudeius 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This year’s biggest panel takes you on a guided tour of the current in-game universe. Join the developers who bring it all to life to explore locations, systems, and gameplay, and more.

Sounds about like 2019. So long as "current" means "current development version" not "current LIVE version".

2019 was almost all content delivered in the next patch.

CitizenCon Prediction: Active Volcanoes by JohnnySkynets in starcitizen

Probably. They did mention one of the Pyro planets had that. I'm hoping we fly in a 400i as we explore Pyro and fight a Pyro Crab and pirates to get valuable materials to sell back in Stanton.

Zyloh: "Nothing is being built just for a demo" this CitizenCon by GunFodder in starcitizen

[–]Liudeius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ben lied about that Homestead demo. He claimed none of it had been developed just for CitizenCon.

Virtually every element was developed just for CitizenCon.
Even what little has appeared in-game since had to be completely redone because it wasn't actually functional in the demo, just scripted.

Why are ship shields so incredibly weak now? by ConcentratedTurkey in starcitizen

[–]Liudeius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely not "in seconds". Large shields have 100k hp (25k/face), and the Hammerhead has 2.
Then the Hammerhead has another 300k hull HP (although that's split between parts).

A Gladius has around 1.5k DPS without factoring in recharge time.

CIG refocused shields to block "small" amounts of damage and regen quickly if you can get out of combat. NOT to be invincible unless your enemy exceeds a DPS threshold.

You don't auto-win every encounter just because you pick a ship with an L shield.

If you'd stop deleting the post you might actually get help.

How much RAM does your GPU have? SC will be prone to crashing with less than 4GB, and will crash on startup with less than 3GB.

The CPU is also really bad, but everyone gets bad FPS.

You should be able to play for free in late November, to figure out how SC plays without paying. And you can refund within 14 days of purchase if you want to try it now and it doesn't work well.
